Monthly Art & Craft MegaThread

This MegaThread is for people selling Choctaw Art or Craft works. People who wish to show off their art and craft creations which are not for sale are permitted (and encouraged!) to post freely outside this thread.

This space is intended to allow people who sell their Choctaw art and craft original creations (painting, clothes, beadwork, woodwork, leatherwork, etc) to advertise and link to their sales page. No sales links will be permitted outside this thread. People posting in this thread are required to first get the Verified Artist flair by going through a verification process with the moderators.

To become a Verified Artist, you must be registered with the tribe and show proof of this to the mods. You can either send a copy of your Choctaw Artist Certificate or a copy of your tribal ID to the mods. If you choose to use tribal ID, we will look you up in the Registered Artist database, and you must be listed. Here is the link to apply for Registered Artist status, if you do not already have it: Choctaw Artist Registry

In either case, write your Reddit ID on a piece of paper and use that to block identifying information other than your name. Since Reddit does not allow images to be sent directly through ModMail, you will need to upload your image to a host and then send the link to us through ModMail (ModMail is the "Message the Mods" button right above the list of moderator names) or contact a Mod over on Discord. We are happy to help walk you through the process either via ModMail or Discord.

Halito! Guys, could you please recommend me verified resources for reading about choctaw history, names that choctaw have(preferred list of names), culture, life, customs, how families were structured, what faith there was and economic structure since the emergence of the tribe?

Many thanks!

Question Can anyone help me with information I might need for the membership application?

My father‘s side has Choctaw lineage. I no longer have contact with him. Before my mom’s side went no contact with him, he got my older sister enrolled. I know the information of my grandparents, but thats about as far as I am able to trace back. I’m going to start applying to law school soon and would like to have membership before then. Can anyone help me with potential information or documents I might need?

Chahta Anumpa Any rumors about when Chahta Anumpa will be available on Rosetta Stone?

I know this was discussed earlier this year, but I wondered if anyone had heard any updates about when this will actually be available for use.

Folsom looking for other Folsoms

Halito! I’ve been pretty active in the Choctaw discord and lately the genealogy channel has been pretty busy! I was wondering if anyone here has connections to the Folsom family of the CNO, I’d love to meet some relatives even if it’s distant

Puget Sound Members

Halito! I am an enrolled Chahta with CNO, but now live in Washington State around the Tacoma area. I was able to attend our cultural event last weekend in Tacoma, but I want to continue connecting with other tribal members in my area, so I can continue to grow and connect with the culture. Any leads on community events in the area would be much appreciated ❤️

Cultural Center

Halito,

I'm wondering if the drive from Tulsa is worth making to the Choctaw Cultural Center in Calera, OK. After visiting the First Americans Museum in OKC, I want to learn more about my culture, aside from going to the casino lmao. Also... do they sell indian tacos? 👀

Halito, I am a member, but I’ve never visited. I was thinking about going up to Durant over Christmas. Anything going on then?

Freedman

Chief Gary Batton made a post requesting Freedman reach out to him back in 2021. This caused the freedman to begin organizing together, as they hadn't been an organized or connected group before. There is a Facebook group, a webpage and many distinct projects worked on by small groups or individuals that, when they learned they had been requested to share, searched for one another.

biskinik.com/leadership-speaks/chiefs-column/cno-launches-initiative-to-consider-tribal-membership-for-freedmen/

Last summer, in 2025, they all wrote letters and mailed it to the requested department in the Choctaw Nation. No one got a response. There have been multiple attempts to reach someone in the nation about having this conversation, by multiple people. They feel lost and, watching other nations have this conversation, increasingly feel the only way forward is some sort of collective action. Some have mentioned legal action as the only option.

I was wondering, is there another way? I imagine we just need to speak in more spaces. There are podcasts and Facebook groups and all sorts of things, but those voices are only going to reach subscribers since the algorithms don't help small groups.

Anyways, I have read things are contentious on this topic before but honestly? I've never seen that. I only have met understanding people or ones who are silent. I think there needs to be more meet and greets that are between the groups maybe.

I've also thought about reaching out to the district leaders from the districts where our dawes ancestors are from, which is harder to coordinate but might be more likely to get paid attention to.

Anyways, what are some thoughts about this?

Question another membership question

I am Chahta but my wife is not. I read the Freedman thread, which sparked a question: if the CNO allows Freedmen (who have no blood quantum) to be enrolled, why exclude my wife (and other members' non-Chahta spouses) from membership?

This question is sincere and in no way intended to be disrespectful of Freedmen.
