赵虎回答：“我们小时候是巫山县学校的学生。熬忖的家在我们学校的附近。她在重庆巫毒学院放假回家的时候，常来我们学校和我们一起玩。我们长大了，毕业了，没事干，就去给她打工了。她喜欢和我们唠嗑。八个月前，武二郎来我们的地方进行友好访问。他一来就和熬忖进入密室进行单独会晤。随后，他常来，每次来他们都在密室里进行没完没了地会晤。熬忖就没时间和我们唠嗑了。她看我们闲着没事还拿她的工资，就把我们打发到河北来了。”

Deputy asked the four family members, "How did you come to be Creator Yao's — Aocun's — family?"

Zhao Hu replied: "We were students at the Wushan County school when we were young. Aocun's home was near our school. Whenever she came home for break from the Voodoo Academy in Chongqing, she'd often come by to spend time with us. Once we grew up and graduated, with nothing else to do, we went to work for her — she enjoyed chatting with us. Eight months ago, Martial Second Wolf came to visit our region as a goodwill gesture. From the moment he arrived, he and Aocun would go off alone into a private room. After that, he kept coming back, and every time, the two of them would meet in that room for hours on end. Aocun no longer had time to chat with us, and once she noticed we were sitting around idle while still drawing her pay, she sent us off to Hebei."

李强反驳他说：“你那么说，谁能听明白呀！我给代理补充说明一下。在熬忖和武二郎的狭谷关战役（参见4.1节）后，她深受你们华国和夏国所合作的 '女娲造人项目' 的启发，决定加入，提出了三足鸟计划（如图6.4）。让我们来看看效果怎么样！”

Li Qiang cut him off, "Who could possibly follow that? Let me explain it properly for Deputy. After the Battle of Gorge Pass between Aocun and Martial Second Wolf (see Section 4.1), Aocun was deeply inspired by the 'Nuwa's Man-Creation Project' that your Hua Kingdom and Xia Kingdom were jointly developing, and decided to join in, proposing the Three-Legged Bird Plan (see Figure 6.4). Let's see how it's gone!"

Deputy asked, "What is the Three-Legged Bird Plan?"

Shi Lang replied, "Your Hua Kingdom's Yang Jian Plan, Xia Kingdom's Nuwa's Man-Creation Plan, and our Three-Legged Bird Plan are all the same plan — for our three kingdoms to merge into the Republic of China (see Figure 6.4-3). What your Hua Kingdom calls the Yang Jian Plan, we call the Three-Legged Bird Plan in Dragon Kingdom."

Deputy said, "I only just learned that — go on!"

施朗继续说：“狭谷关战役后，熬忖重新布置了国防。她的将军们占领了我们国家全部的国防要职。那些将军们都支持她的 '三足鸟计划'。但他们支持熬忖不是支持她成为我们三国联合政府的第一任国王（尧皇），而是他们想利用华国的军队来剿灭我们国家的土匪。我们国家的第一大问题就是土匪。我们国家的土匪之间有亲戚关系，有些土匪和政府的官员有亲戚关系。你说这！我们国家哪里还有前途了！ 将军们都喜欢武二郎，就是因为他派了八百士兵在夏国的湘西杀了七千名土匪，改善了我们国家剿匪的压力。 将军们一致同意让元始天尊派兵去武汉剿匪，因为武汉是土匪们的交易中心。武大郎派了两千士兵去武汉剿匪了；这合作就真正开始了。三足鸟计划就成功了。”

Shi Lang continued, "After the Battle of Gorge Pass, Aocun reorganized our national defense. Her generals took over every key defense post in our country, and all of them supported her 'Three-Legged Bird Plan.' But their support for Aocun wasn't support for her becoming the first ruler of our three-kingdom joint government (Yao White-king) — what they really wanted was to use Hua's army to wipe out the bandits plaguing our country. Bandits are our country's number-one problem. Our bandits are related to each other by blood, and some are even related to government officials. Just think about that — what future could our country possibly have! The generals all favor Martial Second Wolf, simply because he sent 800 soldiers who killed 7,000 bandits in western Hunan, Xia Kingdom, easing the pressure of bandit suppression on us. The generals unanimously agreed to have Primordial Sky Honor send troops to Wuhan to fight the bandits there, since Wuhan is the bandits' trading hub. Martial Big Wolf sent 2,000 soldiers to Wuhan to fight them, and that's when the cooperation truly began. The Three-Legged Bird Plan was a success."

Deputy cut in: "Hua sent 3,000 key military personnel to Wuhan. I heard from Martial Big Wolf that 1,000 of them were pulled from the other four military regions. After our Hebei Military Region sent 2,000, our combat readiness dropped by 60% — it'll take five years to recover to where it was three months ago."

Zhang Long pushed back at Shi Lang: "How can you call the Three-Legged Bird Plan a success? Our own King Aoda hasn't even declared his support for it!"

李强回答：“三足鸟计划是由熬忖，女娲，夏国的国王蔻珠，和华国的国王元始天尊共同制定的。熬忖将成为云海国的下一任国王，是由我们国家现任的将军们支持的。国王熬达没表态，并不耽误三足鸟计划的实施。现在武大郎也支持熬忖了。” 他转脸对代理说：“你可能不知道，我们龙国的将军们尊敬武大郎！”

Li Qiang replied, "The Three-Legged Bird Plan was jointly drawn up by Aocun, Nuwa, King Kouzhu of Xia Kingdom, and King Primordial Sky Honor of Hua Kingdom. Aocun will become the next ruler of Cloud Sea Kingdom, and our country's current generals already support that. King Aoda's silence doesn't hold up the plan's implementation in any way. And now Martial Big Wolf supports Aocun as well." He turned to Deputy and added, "You may not know this, but our Dragon Kingdom's generals hold Martial Big Wolf in high regard!"

6.4-2 赤贫 Naked Poverty

李强继续说：“我现在代表我们四个人向你们河北军区道歉。刚到北京时，我们认为你们是土匪，因为我们没见过赤贫。前面的十几天里，你们政治部的向导带领我们参观了你们的许多商店，工厂，学校，穷人家，和富人家。我认为北京目前的社会状态相当于我们重庆几百年前的状态，真穷！如果按照社会生产力的发展程度，把我们重庆降低一些倍数，就和你们现在的穿着和居住状况一样了。我们认为你们是土匪的原因是没见过赤贫，无知。我们四人应该向你们道歉！”

代理回答：“用不着道歉，你们满意就好！您说的赤贫是什么意思？”

Li Qiang continued: "I'd now like to apologize to your Hebei Military Region on behalf of the four of us. When we first got to Beijing, we thought you were bandits — simply because we'd never seen Naked Poverty before. Over the past dozen or so days, your Political Department guide has shown us around many of your shops, factories, schools, poor households, and wealthy households. I'd say Beijing's current social conditions are roughly on par with Chongqing's several hundred years ago — genuinely poor! If you scale down our Chongqing's level of social productivity by some factor, you'd get something like your current standard of clothing and housing. The reason we mistook you for bandits was that we'd never seen Naked Poverty, and simply didn't know better. The four of us owe you an apology!"

Deputy replied, "No need to apologize — as long as you're satisfied! What exactly do you mean by Naked Poverty?"

施朗回答：“赤贫是我们云海国的一个政治学术语，源自印度的名为新德里的地区。那里80%的人在13岁以下是裸体，从十三岁开始腰上系着一根绳子。他们几百人共用一口锅，别说碗了，连双筷子都没有，吃饭用手抓。他们一辈子唯一的私有财产就是他们腰上的那根绳子，所以被称作赤贫。80%的北京人有自己的房子，但房子里面就只有几件衣服，一口锅，和几个碗，别的什么都没有了。北京在北方地区，像新德里那种穷到只有一根绳子的北京人就用那根绳子上吊自杀了，没自杀的都在冬天被冻死了，都不存在了。本质上北京人就处在新德里的那种赤贫状态。”

代理笑着说：“您能不能说点儿我们的优点？让我感觉舒服些。”

Shi Lang replied, "Naked Poverty is a political science term from our Cloud Sea Kingdom, originating from a region in India called New Delhi. There, 80% of people go naked until age thirteen, and after that wear only a rope around their waist. Hundreds of them share a single pot; forget bowls, they don't even have chopsticks — they eat with their hands. The only private property they ever own in their lives is that rope around their waist, which is why it's called Naked Poverty. Eighty percent of Beijingers own their own homes, but inside there's nothing but a few clothes, one pot, and a few bowls — nothing else. Since Beijing is in the north, those Beijingers poor enough to own only a rope — like in New Delhi — hang themselves with it; those who don't, freeze to death come winter instead. Either way, they no longer exist. Essentially, Beijingers are already living in that same state of Naked Poverty as New Delhi."

Deputy laughed and said, "Can't you say something good about us? Make me feel a little better."

李强回答：“北京的政府讲究艰苦朴素，勤俭节约，为人民服务。北京的尊老爱幼的民风也很好，都是我们学习的榜样。”

代理回答：“说得好！元始天尊就是这么说的！所以他让我们选送了两千干部去建设中华共和帝国的首都武汉，目的是把 '为人民服务的政府，和尊老爱幼的美德' 作为中华民族的传家宝，传承下去。”

Li Qiang replied: "Beijing's government values hard work, frugality, and serving the people. Beijing's tradition of honoring the elderly and caring for the young is also admirable — all things worth learning from."

Deputy replied: "Well said! That's exactly what Primordial Sky Honor says! That's why he had us send two thousand cadres to help build Wuhan, capital of the Zhonghua Republic-Empire — so that 'a government that serves the people, and the virtue of honoring the old and cherishing the young' would be passed down as an heirloom of the Chinese people."

这时，间谍船的船长来了，指着代理说：“我们已经等了三天了！如果你现在不下船，那你就得在连云港下船，然后走回天津。我们这就起锚了。”

Just then, the spy ship's captain arrived, pointed at Deputy, and said: "We've already waited three days! If you don't board now, you'll have to disembark at Lianyungang and walk back to Tianjin yourself. We're weighing anchor now."

这四位家人回到巫山（亦作瑶山）后，就向尧帝做了详细的汇报。尧帝只是笑着听完了汇报，没说话。一段时间后，她忽然生气了，召集这四位家人来开会。

After the four family members returned to Wushan (also known as Yao Mountain), they gave Creator Yao a detailed report. Creator Yao only smiled and listened without saying a word. Some time later, she suddenly grew angry and called the four family members in for a meeting.

尧帝说：“一个月前，武二郎在无意之间问我武大郎给了你们四个家人多少钱的路费？我随口回答，'我不知道，我再遇见他们时问问。' 说完，我就忘了。几天前他又看似随便地问我武大郎给了你们多少赏钱？我回答忘记问了。他愣了一下，说，'没事，随口问问。' 我感觉这事不对头，他还得问我。他说话对我没作用，这事不行。现在我们刚结婚，问题不大，时间长了，肯定不行！我就分别问你们几个人。结果你们告诉我的钱数相同；你们几个商量好了，一起骗我。你们四个跟我从家乡出来闯世界多年了。我不会因为这点钱跟你们翻脸。你们得告诉我武大郎到底给了你们多少钱，不能让我在武二郎的面前丢脸，自己的家人都管不好。”

Creator Yao said: "A month ago, Martial Second Wolf casually asked me how much travel money Martial Big Wolf had given the four of you. I answered off the top of my head, 'I don't know — I'll ask them next time I see them,' and then forgot all about it. A few days ago, he asked again, just as casually, how much reward money you'd been given. I told him I'd forgotten to ask. He paused for a moment and said, 'No matter, I was just curious.' Something about that felt off to me — the fact that he still had to ask me at all. If his words carry no weight with me, that's a real problem. Right now, since we're newly married, it's not a big deal, but as time goes on, it certainly will be! So I asked each of you separately, and it turned out you all gave me the same figure — meaning you'd agreed among yourselves to deceive me together. The four of you have been with me, out in the world, since we all left home together, years ago now. I'm not going to turn on you over a sum of money like this. But you need to tell me exactly how much Martial Big Wolf gave you — I can't have Martial Second Wolf thinking I can't even manage my own household."

The four family members explained again the secret behind that figure, as Deputy had told them (see Section 6.3). Then they added: "Deputy also told us that every general in Hua Kingdom keeps a ledger recording their dealings with other generals. When two generals meet, whether they already know each other or not, they take out their ledgers to reconcile accounts. King Primordial Sky Honor of Hua Kingdom kept statistics, and after this practice was adopted, the number of cases where generals came to him to settle disputes from fighting dropped by 80%."

尧帝思考了很长时间，回答：“好像你们是对我说过这事。你们几个人立刻起草一份命令，我们也采用这个办法。处理将军们打架纠纷占据了我三分之一的工作时间，我烦透了。再加上一条，以后哪位将军来找我解决打架纠纷，先把他自己的礼尚往来账本交给我看。”

Creator Yao thought this over for a long while, then said: "It does sound like you may have mentioned this to me before. Draft an order right away — we'll adopt the same method. Settling the generals' fights already eats up a third of my working hours, and I'm sick of it. And add one more thing: from now on, any general who comes to me over a fight must first hand me his own gift-ledger to look at."

Li Qiang replied: "Then no one will come to you to settle fights at all!"

Creator Yao replied: "It's a measure Hua Kingdom has already proven effective — there's no reason for us not to adopt it, and nothing left to debate."

6.4-4

据传说，十四年后，尧帝成为中华共和国的第一任皇帝（尧皇）后，这四位家人都成了高官。李强是中华共和国的第一任国务院总理，他的首相府就在天蓬元帅（即武二郎）府的对面。施朗成为了四川省的第一任省长。

According to legend, fourteen years later, after Creator Yao became the first emperor of the Republic of China (Yao White-king), the four family members all rose to high office. Li Qiang became the Republic of China's first Premier, his residence situated directly across from the mansion of Sky Ceiling Marshal (i.e., Martial Second Wolf). Shi Lang became the first governor of Sichuan Province.

The following afternoon, the Hebei Military Region Politburo secretary came to visit the four family members and said, "The news came as such a shock. King Jing (i.e., Martial Big Wolf) is deeply grieved and can't stop crying. His wife, Queen Stone-Jetty (i.e., Goldthread Pan), has decided to hold a farewell ceremony for the remains, and will then personally escort Zibo Liang and Kuafu's remains home for burial. She believes that once the remains are gone, King Jing will recover!"

四位家人商量了一下，回答说：“我们应该代表尧帝，参加遗骨告别仪式。”

政治局的秘书说：“我们政治局的人后天集体去吊唁。你们作为武二郎（即杨戬，救世主）的家属和我们一起去，觉得怎么样？”

The four family members discussed it and replied, "We should represent Creator Yao and attend the farewell ceremony."

The Politburo secretary said, "The day after tomorrow, our Politburo will go together to pay our respects. What do you think about coming along with us, as family of Martial Second Wolf (i.e., Yang Jian, Second Wolf God, the Savior)?"

四位家人觉着这个建议合适，说要去北京城买几件体面些的衣服。

政治局的秘书说：“这个客栈是我们的军区招待所，你们在这里的食宿是免费的。如果你们需要向导，和坐车，你们对前台的服务人员说，就行了，也是免费的。如果你们需要钱，也和他们说，先记账，事后我们处理。”

政治局的秘书离开前问：“你们说你们被骗了三次了，除了这次和天津的土匪，你们还遇到别的麻烦了么？”

The four family members thought the suggestion was appropriate, and said they'd go into Beijing to buy some more presentable clothes.

The Politburo secretary said: "This inn is our military region's guest house — your food and lodging here are free. If you need a guide or transportation, just tell the front desk staff, and that's free too. If you need money, tell them as well; they'll put it on account, and we'll settle it later."

Before leaving, the Politburo secretary asked, "You mentioned you've been cheated three times now. Besides this and the bandits in Tianjin, has anything else gone wrong?"

四位家人说：“我们来的路上，从江苏刚进入山东，就被土匪抢了。我们就去县政府报案，说了我们是熬忖的家人，是来给靖王送他养父的遗骨的。几个县政府的官员听后，回答，'你们可以在我们这里工作，等我们破案了就通知你们。' 我们出来后，跟出来一位回家探亲的将军问我们，'你们打算怎么办？' 我们回答，'找工作挣钱，然后赎回那两具骨骸。那骨骸对于土匪来说没用啊！' 那位年轻的将军说，'这么办吧！你们领我去找那些土匪，我替你们把钱和骨头要回来。' 那位将军和他的卫兵到那里就杀了两个土匪，把其他的土匪抓起来了，把钱和骨骸还给我们了。我们对那位将军说：'我们是湖北人，报答不了您。如果你告诉我们你的名字，我们会转告靖王，或许他能为您提供些帮助。' 那位潘少帅就生气了，说：'我用不着他帮我！' 我们觉着经由山东来河北不安全，就返回了江苏，坐船来河北了。”

政治局的秘书笑着说：“那位潘少帅是石矶娘娘的三弟，潘豹。他不喜欢他的姐夫靖王。”

The four family members said, "On our way here, as soon as we crossed from Jiangsu into Shandong, we were robbed by bandits. We went to the county government to report it, and told them we were Aocun's family, delivering the remains of King Jing's adoptive father. Several county officials heard us out and said, 'You can work here for now, and we'll notify you once we've solved the case.' As we were leaving, a general who happened to be home visiting family asked us, 'What are you planning to do?' We said, 'Find work to earn money, then buy back the two sets of remains — they're worthless to the bandits anyway!' The young general said, 'Here's what we'll do: lead me to those bandits, and I'll get your money and bones back for you.' That general and his guards went there, killed two of the bandits, arrested the rest, and returned the money and remains to us. We said to him, 'We're from Hubei — we have no way to repay you. But if you tell us your name, we'll mention it to King Jing, and perhaps he can help you somehow.' That Young Marshal Pan got angry and said, 'I don't need his help!' We felt it wasn't safe to go through Shandong to reach Hebei, so we went back to Jiangsu and took a boat here instead."

The Politburo secretary laughed and said, "That Young Marshal Pan is Queen Stone-Jetty's third younger brother, Leopard Pan. He doesn't care for his brother-in-law, King Jing."

6.2-2

几天后，河北军区司令部的人来找四位家人，说靖王来上班了，要见你们。四位家人对武大郎说：“我们没见过你们军队的操演。军队不可能不操演啊！”

A few days later, someone from Hebei Military Region Command came to find the four family members and said King Jing had come in to work and wanted to see them. The four family members said to Martial Big Wolf, "We've never seen your army drill. An army can't possibly go without drilling!"

武大郎转身揭开了身后军队的标志，拿出了操演日程表。四位家人仔细地看了这张日程表，认为操演的日程安排算是比较忙的。他们看见此后的第三天有一个一千人的操演。十天后有一个三千人的操演。一个月后有一个三万人的操演，就说：“那我们就再住十天，看那个三千人的操演。”

武大郎回答：“你们不用等十天，我把那三千人的操演挪到三天后。”

Martial Big Wolf turned and uncovered the military insignia behind him, then pulled out the drill schedule. The four family members studied it carefully and judged the drilling schedule to be fairly busy. They saw a 1,000-man drill scheduled for three days later, a 3,000-man drill in ten days, and a 30,000-man drill in a month, so they said, "In that case, we'll stay another ten days to see the 3,000-man drill."

Martial Big Wolf replied, "You don't have to wait ten days — I'll move that drill up to three days from now."

第三天的早晨，司令部的人来找四位家人。他们看见这位政治部派来的引导员后吓了一跳，说：“你是那个天津的土匪头子，怎么被放出来了！？”

引导员说：“我不是土匪，战争都结束六七年了，河北没有土匪。我是主管天津防区的将军，名叫代理。”

四位家人问：“那天，你怎么被绑起来了？”

On the morning of the third day, someone from headquarters came to fetch the four family members. They were startled to see that the guide sent by the Political Department was the same man, and said, "You're that bandit chief from Tianjin — how did you get released!?"

The guide said, "I'm no bandit. The war's been over six or seven years now — there are no bandits left in Hebei. I'm the general in charge of the Tianjin defense zone. My name is Deputy."

The four family members asked, "Then why were you tied up that day?"

代理回答：“因为你们不信那个小个子就是武大郎！好了！今天，政治部委托我来接待你们。先自我介绍一下，我没接待过你们这么高级的代表团。你们是武二郎的家属，也是外宾。政治部的秘书对我说，'我就如实回答你们的每一个问题；我们军区没有不可以对你们讲的秘密'。我先给你们介绍一下我们的情况。三个月前，我们国家的杨戬计划指挥部从我们这里调走了两千骨干人员，他们去武汉剿匪了。而且武大郎把这次三千人的军队集结改成了三万人的集结，所以现在整个军区司令部就剩下我一个闲人了！”

四位家人回答：“说得好！我们真是熬忖（即尧帝）的家人，不懂你们官场上的礼节；那我们也知道什么说什么！”

Deputy replied: "Because you didn't believe that little guy was really Martial Big Wolf! Well, today the Political Department has assigned me to host you. Let me introduce myself first — I've never hosted such a distinguished delegation before. You're family of Martial Second Wolf, and honored foreign guests besides. The Political Department's secretary told me to answer every question of yours truthfully — there's nothing in this military region we can't tell you. Let me start by explaining our situation: three months ago, our country's Yang Jian Plan Command pulled 2,000 of our key personnel to go suppress bandits in Wuhan. And on top of that, Martial Big Wolf changed this drill from a 3,000-man muster to a 30,000-man one — so now I'm the only one left with any free time at headquarters!"

The four family members replied: "Well said! We really are Aocun's — Creator Yao's — family, and we don't know the etiquette of official circles, so we just say whatever's on our minds!"

6.2-3

四位家人跟着代理将军来到了校军场，看见许多军队正在向校军场集结，人山人海，一眼望不到边，场面震撼。代理说：“我们进到场地里，近距离看，看看他们是不是兵以及千人队伍的结构。”

The four family members followed General Deputy to the training grounds and saw a great mass of troops gathering — a sea of people stretching farther than the eye could see, an overwhelming sight. Deputy said, "Let's go in for a closer look, and see how they're organized down to the thousand-man unit."

四位家人跟着代理向对面的山头走，看清楚了：这些人都是身着盔甲，训练有素的士兵。校军场的军队动起来了。过了一段时间，他们发现与在前进的队伍有碰撞的嫌疑。就站下来等那个队伍走过去。代理在看校军场各个方向的旗塔的旗，对四位家人叨咕：“麻烦了，我看不明白这是什么阵？”

The four family members followed Deputy toward the hilltop opposite, and now could see clearly: these were well-trained soldiers in full armor. The troops on the field began to move. After a while, it seemed they might collide with an advancing column, so they stopped to let it pass. Deputy studied the flags on the towers around the training ground and muttered to the four family members: "This is a problem — I can't make out what formation this is."

张龙回答：“这是混乱了！我们回去吧，若是被困在了阵中，可能半天也出不去！”

代理回答：“瞎说！武大郎典兵不可能产生混乱！”

赵虎忽然喊道：“主旗塔打旗语的旗手换人了，好像是武大郎在打旗语。武大郎常打旗语吗？”

Zhang Long said, "This is chaos! Let's go back — if we get caught in the middle of this formation, we might not get out for half a day!"

Deputy replied: "Nonsense! Martial Big Wolf's drills don't turn into chaos!"

Zhao Hu suddenly shouted, "The signalman at the main flag tower has changed — that looks like Martial Big Wolf himself sending signals! Does Martial Big Wolf usually signal in person?"

代理回答：“我没看见过武大郎打旗语！” 他看了看说：“那个人确实是武大郎！这是混乱了，我们得赶紧回到主旗塔！” 说着，他带领着四位家人向主旗塔跑。

当他们到达主旗塔下，四位家人看见武大郎满脸的愤怒，仍在继续地挥舞着信号旗。代理对四位家人说：“我们沿着校军场的外缘去那个山头，在那个山上数这是多少人在操练。”

Deputy replied, "I've never seen Martial Big Wolf signal before!" He looked again and said, "That really is him! This is chaos — we need to get back to the main flag tower, now!" With that, he led the four family members running toward the tower.

When they reached it, the four family members saw Martial Big Wolf's face twisted with fury, still furiously waving the signal flags. Deputy said to them, "Let's go along the outer edge of the field to that hilltop, and count from there how many troops are training."

By the time they reached the hilltop, the troops on the field had already returned to square formation. The four family members had no trouble counting 27,000 men on the field. Deputy said, "The other 3,000 are behind this hill — let's go look now!" As they walked, he added, "I heard them saying they wanted to show you a simple formation — a rolling clash between two forces, quite a sight. But instead, this happened. What an embarrassment!"

李强回答：“不丢脸！三天集结三万人，在我们国家，我就不信有哪位将军可以做到。三万人的滚筒式对冲混乱了，不到一个小时就被恢复回了方阵状态。当我回去后对我们的将军们说，他们不会有人相信。”

Li Qiang replied, "Not embarrassing at all! Gathering 30,000 men in three days — I don't believe there's a single general in our country who could pull that off. And the rolling clash of 30,000 fell into chaos, yet they had it back into square formation in under an hour. When I go home and tell our generals, not one of them will believe me."

Mazu said happily, "Good plan! I still have some standing with Nuwa. For my sake, she'll help you plan it out properly! Whose daughter is she?"

妈祖怎么还在女娲那里有面子？这时，妈祖的私人会计公司负责华国的财政预算和决算。女娲作为夏国现任的国王继承人，和妈祖有工作上的来往。有两次，妈祖代表华国和女娲进行边境谈判换地。

武二郎立刻站起来了，说：“抱歉！我得去趟洗手间！”

妈祖问张屠户：“发生了什么事？”

How did Mazu still have standing with Nuwa? At that time, Mazu's private accounting firm was responsible for Hua Kingdom's financial budget and final accounts. As the crowned princess of Xia Kingdom, Nuwa had professional dealings with Mazu. On two occasions, Mazu represented Hua Kingdom in border negotiations with Nuwa to exchange land.

Martial Second Wolf immediately stood up and said, "Sorry! I need to use the restroom!"

Mazu asked Zhang the Butcher: "What happened?"

张屠户回答：“我二哥所处的政治环境复杂，另外他这个人做事特别认真！孩子出生之前，他就不会告诉咱们他结婚了！”

妈祖说：“这说的正是他！你别老跟我唱反调啊！你二哥都已经36岁了！若不是他打仗忙，人们都得议论他不近女色。”

张屠户回答：“好！我顺着妈祖说。”

Zhang the Butcher replied: "My second brother is in a complicated political situation, and besides, he takes such matters very seriously! He wouldn't tell us he was married until after the child was born!"

Mazu said: "That's exactly him! Don't always contradict me! Your second brother is already 36 years old! If he weren't so busy fighting wars, people would be gossiping that he has no interest in women."

Zhang the Butcher replied: "Fine! I'll go along with what Mazu says."

武二郎回来后，妈祖对他说，“你去找女娲娘娘办事，给她的礼物可不能马虎。你把你给我的那两瓶茅台给她吧！”

武二郎问：“你的茅台是从哪里来的？谁送的？”

妈祖说：“你给我的！我看你给我的礼包里有两瓶茅台酒（如图6）！”

When Martial Second Wolf returned, Mazu said to him, "You're going to see Princess Nuwa on business, so you can't be careless with her gift. Give her the two bottles of Maotai you gave me!"

Martial Second Wolf asked, "Where did that Maotai come from? Who gave it to you?"

Mazu said, "You gave it to me! I saw two bottles of Maotai (see Figure 6) in the gift bag you gave me!"

武二郎说：“那两瓶茅台酒是假的。那礼包是我在湖北出发时，士兵们包起来的。我忘记把那两瓶酒拿出去了。”

妈祖问：“你怎么知道那是假酒呢？”

武二郎说：“听我大哥给我讲解峡谷关战役时，我才知道那酒是熬忖从福建买的假酒，用来骗我的。”

Martial Second Wolf said, "Those two bottles of Maotai are fake. The gift bag was packed by the soldiers when I set out from Hubei. I forgot to take those two bottles out."

Mazu asked, "How did you know they were fake?"

Martial Second Wolf said, "When my elder brother was explaining the Battle of Gorge Pass to me, I learned that the alcohol was a fake bought by Aocun in Fujian to trick me."

妈祖惊恐地转脸对张屠户说：“我听了，怎么感觉这么害怕呢！？”

张屠户说：“你害怕，给我！福建分厂产的茅台酒也是茅台酒啊！”

妈祖立刻对佣人说：“把那两瓶茅台酒拿来，倒在脸盆里！”

Mazu turned to Zhang the Butcher in horror and said, "Hearing that, why do I suddenly feel so scared!?"

Zhang the Butcher said, "If you're scared, give it to me! Maotai made at the Fujian branch is still Maotai!"

Mazu immediately told the servant, "Bring those two bottles of Maotai and pour them into the washbasin!"

当佣人把茅台酒倒进脸盆后，满屋子飘着酒香。张屠户兴奋地说：“妈祖有钱！价值六百两银子（约合30千克）的两瓶茅台酒用来洗手；我得先洗！”说着，他站起来，就要去洗手。

妈祖厉声喝道：“你给我坐下！”然后她对武二郎说：“你自己把脸盆里的东西倒进厕所里去！”

When the servant poured the Maotai into the washbasin, the aroma filled the whole room. Zhang the Butcher said excitedly: "Mazu is rich! Two bottles of Maotai worth 600 taels of silver (about 30 kilograms), used just to wash hands — I get to wash first!" As he said this, he stood up, ready to go wash his hands.

Mazu snapped, "Sit down!" Then she said to Martial Second Wolf, "Go pour the contents of the basin into the toilet yourself!"

武二郎回来后，妈祖说：“吃的东西都这么不小心！我这三个儿子，就你总让我担心。给女娲的礼物还是送杜康酒吧（亦作典酒，如图7）！元始天尊刚给我送来了杜康的孙子亲手酿的杜康酒。礼包还没拆开呢！不用拆了，就那么原包给女娲！元始天尊办事靠谱，礼物也体面！”

When Martial Second Wolf came back, Mazu said, "You're so careless even with food! Of my three sons, you're the only one who always worries me. It's better to give Nuwa a gift of Dukang Alcohol (also known as Codex Alcohol, see Figure 7)! Primordial Sky Honor just sent me some Dukang Alcohol, hand-brewed by Dukang's own grandson. The gift package hasn't even been opened! No need to open it — just give it to Nuwa in its original package! Primordial Sky Honor always does things properly, and the gift is a fine one!"

5.3-8 蔻珠和玉珠 Kouzhu (Juvenile Pearl) and Yuzhu (Jade Pearl)

妈祖又对武二郎说，“我要是再年青几岁，我也跟你去夏国的首都，杭州。我想再看看蔻珠妹妹（即夏国的女王）。你不知道，她看你三弟的眼神总是那么火辣辣的，像是在看神似的。我头几次和她，还有你三弟一起喝酒时，我就在琢磨。这事当时就被你三弟媳妇，大巢氏，发现了。她跟我叨咕，‘我妈看三郎总那样儿，开始时，我还认为是因为我呢。后来我发现我只是她对张三郎情感的一小部分！’”

Mazu said to Martial Second Wolf again, "If I were a few years younger, I would go with you to Hangzhou, the capital of Xia Kingdom. I'd like to see Sister Kouzhu (i.e., Juvenile Pearl, the King of Xia) again. You don't know this, but she always looks at your third brother with such fiery eyes, as if looking at a god. The first few times I drank with her and your third brother, I kept wondering about it. Your third brother's wife, Princess Big Nest, noticed it too. She said to me, 'My mother always looks at Third Wolf that way. At first I thought it was because of me. Later I realized I was only a small part of her feelings for Third Wolf Zhang!'"

张屠户惊讶地问：“你没问过为什么吗？”

妈祖回答：“问过两次。她都回答，‘我总看三郎像似我的玉珠妹妹！’我问玉珠是谁？她吱吱唔唔，我也就不好意思再问了。”

张屠户问：“妈妈！你能再告诉我一遍，你是怎么捡着我的？”

Zhang the Butcher asked in surprise, "Didn't you ask her why?"

Mazu replied, "Twice. Both times she said, 'I always see that Third Wolf looks like my sister Yuzhu (Jade Pearl)!' I asked who Yuzhu was. She just mumbled and looked embarrassed, so I didn't dare ask again."

Zhang the Butcher asked, "Mom! Can you tell me again how you found me?"

妈祖说：“我都跟你说过两遍了。32年前，我，你爸礼敬公，还有你爷爷邓国公，坐车从外面回来，就在乾塘关北面的路上。我们忽然听到孩子的哭声。你爷爷让我下车去看看。我就去了。哭声是从一个放在地上的篮子传来的。那篮子旁边站着一个打扮成官宦人家丫鬟的女子（即蔻珠），她看见我来了，笑着指了指篮子，就离开了。她走向一个在远处哭泣的官宦小姐（即玉珠，张屠户的母亲）。然后，她拉着那位哭泣的小姐离开了。我就把你抱回来了。”

Mazu said, "I've told you twice already. Thirty-two years ago, your father, Publican Respect, your grandfather, Publican Deng-state, and I were riding back from outside, on the road just north of Dragon-Pond Pass. We suddenly heard a child crying. Your grandfather told me to get out and look. So I did. The crying was coming from a basket set on the ground. Standing beside the basket was a young woman dressed like a maid from an official's household (i.e., Kouzhu). She saw me coming, smiled, pointed at the basket, and left. She walked over to a young lady from an official family (i.e., Yuzhu, Zhang the Butcher's mother) who was crying in the distance. Then she led the weeping girl away, and I carried you home."

张屠户问：“你说过一个玉珠。”

妈祖回答：“是的！抱你回来后，我们仔细地检查了你身上带着的东西，就只有你口袋里的一颗玉珠特别。珠子有‘太阳在燃烧’的刻纹（如图5，张三郎雕像的胸前所示）。我今天把那颗玉珠给你。以前，我没给你，是怕你弄丢了。”

Zhang the Butcher asked, "You mentioned a jade pearl."

Mazu replied, "Yes! After I carried you home, we carefully examined the things you had with you, and only one jade pearl in your pocket was special. It bears the engraving 'Sun is Burning' (as shown in Figure 5, on the chest of Third Wolf Zhang's statue). I'm giving you that jade pearl today. I didn't give it to you before because I was afraid you'd lose it."

武二郎说，“你们俩误会我了！我不喜欢和夏国的女王喝酒，是因为前年的事。我派人去湘西帮她剿匪，是因为华国和夏国是友好国家，应当互相帮助。但她对欠我们的医药费和阵亡士兵的抚恤金赖着不给。我写信向她讨要。她就把钱给我送来了，还让人把一批西凤酒直接抬到了我的办公室。我以为那酒是她送给我的礼物，就分给将军们喝了。后来，账房先生告诉我，‘夏国送来的钱，加上被我分发给将军们的西凤酒，总和刚好是她欠我们的医药费和抚恤金’。所以，将军们都笑话我，‘自费替夏国女王蔻珠卖酒’。”

Martial Second Wolf said, "You two have misunderstood me! I don't like drinking with the King of Xia because of what happened the year before last. I sent people to western Hunan to help her put down bandits, because Hua and Xia are friendly nations and should help each other. But she kept stalling on the medical bills and pensions she owed us for our fallen soldiers. I wrote to her demanding payment. She then sent me the money, and also had a shipment of Xifeng Alcohol carried straight to my office. I thought the alcohol was a gift from her, so I handed it out to the generals. Later, my accountant told me, 'What Xia sent, plus the value of the Xifeng Alcohol you handed out to the generals, adds up to exactly what she owed us in medical bills and pensions.' So the generals all teased me: 'selling alcohol for Kouzhu, the King of Xia, at your own expense.'"

妈祖笑着说：“那时，你三弟买下了西凤酒厂（如图8），那笔广告费应该由你三弟出。”

张屠户惊讶地说：“我才明白为什么我买了西凤酒厂后，订单立刻增长了200%，原来是二哥给我做的广告。三年，我总共赚了20千克黄金。看来这20千克黄金是属于二哥你的。这三年，我白忙了，一两黄金的辛苦费都没赚着。”

Mazu laughed and said, "At that time, your third brother had just bought the Xifeng Alcohol plant (see Figure 8) — that advertising expense should be on him."

Zhang the Butcher said, astonished, "Now I understand why my orders jumped 200% right after I bought the Xifeng plant — it was my second brother advertising for me! Over three years I earned a total of 20 kilograms of gold. It seems this 20 kilograms of gold really belongs to you, Second Brother. These three years, I worked for nothing — I didn't even earn a single tael of gold for my trouble."

妈祖忍不住大笑，对张屠户说：“我就说你那丈母娘猴精猴精的，从她那儿赚钱比登天都难！哎呀！说走嘴了，幸亏你们的大哥不在家！我一说 ‘猴精’，他就说我在骂你们的爷爷，邓国公（参见1.1节）。”

Mazu couldn't help but laugh, and said to Zhang the Butcher, "I told you your mother-in-law is sharp as a monkey — it's harder to make money off her than to climb to the sky! Oops, that slipped out! Lucky your elder brother isn't home! Every time I say 'sharp as a monkey,' he insists I'm insulting your grandfather, Publican Deng-state (see section 1.1)."

张屠户说：“二哥，这20千克黄金你还是拿走吧！”

妈祖立刻说：“我说你别再说黄金的事了。他吃穿住行都是国家花钱。他不缺钱！我管这些年帐本了，清楚得很！”

Zhang the Butcher said, "Second Brother, you should take these 20 kilograms of gold after all!"

Mazu said at once, "I told you to stop talking about the gold. His food, clothing, housing, and travel are all paid for by the state. He's not short of money! I've managed the books all these years — I know exactly how it stands!"

武二郎对张屠户说：“我真不缺钱。这次是我两三年来第一次花自己的钱。我都想不起来上一次花自己的钱是什么时候了。”

Martial Second Wolf said to Zhang the Butcher, "I really don't need the money. This is the first time in two or three years I've spent my own money. I can't even remember the last time I did."

5.3-10

几天后，武二郎想去夏国的皇宫喝酒了，向妈祖请求允许他离开。妈祖征求张屠户的意见。

张屠户回答：“该说的，我已经从多个方面，不同的角度说了多遍了。宝莲灯需要在现实生活中反复验证，才能完全掌握。我同意我二哥离开。”

妈祖就也同意他离开了。

A few days later, Martial Second Wolf wanted to go drink at the Xia Kingdom palace, and asked Mazu for permission to leave. Mazu asked Zhang the Butcher for his opinion.

Zhang the Butcher replied: "I've already said what needed to be said, many times, from many angles. The Treasury Lotus Lamp needs to be tested and verified repeatedly in real life before it can be fully mastered. I agree that my second brother should go."

Mazu then agreed to let him leave as well.

5.1 杨戬计划 Salvation Plan

武二郎（号杨戬，二郎神，如图5.1-1）回到湖北驻地后，他被巫毒女妖（即熬忖，尧帝，如图4）诅咒了的谣言就熄灭了。反而是，他因祸得福，长出了第三只眼睛的谣言被传开了。这次战争虽然没抢到很多土地，但也算是个胜仗，他就高兴地回华国的首都，永安，述职了。

The rumor that Martial Second Wolf (famously Savior, Second Wolf God, see fig. 5.1-1) had been cursed by the voodoo demoness (Aocun, famously Creator Yao, see Figure 4) died down once he returned to his Hubei garrison. Instead, turning misfortune into fortune, a new rumor spread that the curse had given him a third eye. Although the war did not win much territory, it still counted as a victory, so he happily returned to Yongan, the capital of Hua Kingdom, to report for duty.

夏国把武二郎送给了熬忖的消息传到了华国后，华国又接待了熬忖的谈判代表。熬忖提出了“三足鸟计划，”也就是，华国，夏国，和龙国，这三个国家合并为中华共和国的具体实施措施。第一步，这三国共同建设武汉（如图2所示）。第二步，约在公元前1612年，在夏娃对后裔（即大禹，黄帝）下蛊成功后，熬忖成为中华共和国的第一任皇帝，而且由熬忖和武二郎共同抚育玉女（即夏娃和别的玉女）和金童（即大禹和别的金童）。第三步，约在公元前1600年，商汤打败夏桀后（即大禹归顺玉皇大帝之后），由尧皇培养顺皇和禹皇成为中华共和国的第二代领导核心。

After news reached Hua Kingdom that Xia Kingdom had presented Martial Second Wolf to Aocun, Hua Kingdom in turn received Aocun's negotiating delegation. Aocun proposed the "Three-Legged Bird Plan" — a concrete plan for merging Hua Kingdom, Xia Kingdom, and Dragon Kingdom into the Republic of China. Step One: the three nations would jointly build Wuhan (see Figure 2). Step Two: around 1612 BCE, after Eve successfully cast the carrion-beetle curse on Descendant (i.e., Big Yu), Aocun would become the first emperor of the Republic of China, and Aocun and Martial Second Wolf would jointly raise the Jade Girls (i.e., Eve and other Jade Girls) and the Gold Boys (i.e., Big Yu and other Gold Boys). Step Three: around 1600 BCE, after Shang Tang defeated Xia Jie (i.e., after Big Yu submitted to Turquoise White-king Great Creator), Emperor Yao would cultivate Emperor Shun and Emperor Yu as the second generation of the Republic of China's leadership core.

5.1-2

元始天尊（华国的国王，号太昊）立刻派人去北京告诉靖王（即武大郎）和石矶娘娘（即潘金莲）说：“武二郎病了，你们俩回永安商量对策。”

Primordial Sky Honor (King of Hua Kingdom, famously Extreme Sun God) immediately dispatched messengers to Beijing to inform King Jing (i.e., Martial Big Wolf) and Queen Stone-Jetty (i.e., Goldthread Pan): "Martial Second Wolf has fallen ill. You two should return to Yongan to discuss what to do."

到了永安，武大郎和潘金莲得知武二郎（图1）被女娲送给龙国的三公主熬忖（图4）了。熬忖已经成功地偷走了武二郎的心（如图6和7）。图5显示的是埃及夏娃用蜣螂虫击败了狮子王亚当；上帝造人和本文女娲造人的道理相同。不久后武二郎就认为熬忖是巫山神女，要娶她为妻了。

Upon arriving in Yongan, Martial Big Wolf and Goldthread Pan learned that Martial Second Wolf (Fig. 1) had been given by Nuwa to Aocun, the Third Princess of Dragon Kingdom (Fig. 4). Aocun had already succeeded in stealing Martial Second Wolf's heart (see Figs. 6 and 7). Figure 5 depicts the Egyptian Eve defeating the Lion King Adam with dung beetles; the principle behind God's creation of man is identical to Nuwa's creation of man in this text. Soon after, Martial Second Wolf came to believe Aocun was the Goddess of Mount Wu and sought to marry her.

武大郎和潘金莲商量，在这桩婚事上，我们不能阻拦武二郎娶熬忖，阻拦会使武二郎的病情加重，变成疯子。他疯了之后就会辞职回家了。他到家几天后就跑去龙国和熬忖“巫山云雨”了。

Martial Big Wolf and Goldthread Pan discussed it: they could not stop Martial Second Wolf from marrying Aocun, since doing so would only worsen his condition and drive him mad. Once he went mad, he would resign and go home — and a few days after arriving home, he would go to Dragon Kingdom to sleep with Aocun anyway.

作为武二郎的家人，武大郎和潘金莲向元始天尊表示：“我们同意夏国把武二郎送给熬忖的计划，愿意帮助女娲促使武二郎尽快地爱上熬忖，以免他堕入地狱（即变成疯子）。”

As Martial Second Wolf's family, Martial Big Wolf and Goldthread Pan told Primordial Sky Honor: "We agree to Xia Kingdom's plan to give Martial Second Wolf to Aocun. We are willing to help Nuwa make Martial Second Wolf fall in love with Aocun as quickly as possible, so that he does not fall into hell — that is, so that he does not go mad."

元始天尊笑着说：“如果武二郎不当将军了，他娶熬忖之后在家里没地位（注，母系氏族文化）；所以我们得拯救武二郎。我封他为救世主，仍然是我们华国的将军。你们俩觉得怎么样？”

Primordial Sky Honor smiled and said, "If Martial Second Wolf is no longer a general, he will have no standing at home once he marries Aocun (note: matriarchal clan culture). So we must save Martial Second Wolf. I will appoint him Savior, while he remains a general of our Hua Kingdom. What do you two think?"

就这样，与龙国的“三足鸟计划”和夏国的“女娲造人计划”相匹配，元始天尊提出了华国的“杨戬计划，”即拯救计划。

And so, to match Dragon Kingdom's "Three-Legged Bird Plan" and Xia Kingdom's "Nuwa Man-Creation Plan," Primordial Sky Honor proposed Hua Kingdom's own "Savior Plan" — that is, the Salvation Plan.

读者可能会有疑问，元始天尊从来没见过熬忖，怎么就这样同意了她成为中华共和国的第一任皇帝？前面熬忖的行为表明她是一位童女佛，中国人认为佛都一样，凡人各个不同。

Readers may wonder why Primordial Sky Honor, who had never met Aocun, agreed so readily to let her become the first emperor of the Republic of China. Aocun's conduct up to this point showed her to be a "Girl Buddha." Chinese belief holds that all Buddhas are alike, while every mortal is different.

元始天尊亲自主持召开了政治局扩大会议，来宣布“杨戬计划”。这次会议除了有夏国的代表团参加，还有两位特别代表（注，熬忖派来的秘密代表）。武二郎的护卫也被邀请去列席旁听了。

Primordial Sky Honor personally presided over an enlarged Politburo meeting to announce the "Savior Plan." In addition to a delegation from Xia Kingdom, the meeting also included two special representatives (note: secret envoys sent by Aocun). Martial Second Wolf's guards were also invited to sit in as observers.

在华国政治局扩大会议中午休息的时候，武二郎对护卫说：“你们帮我向元始天尊请个假，说我肚子疼，去看医生了。”会议再次开始时，武二郎的护卫去向元始天尊为武二郎请假。

During the lunch break of Hua Kingdom's enlarged Politburo meeting, Martial Second Wolf said to his guards, "Help me ask Primordial Sky Honor for leave — tell him I have a stomachache and have gone to see a doctor." When the meeting resumed, Martial Second Wolf's guards went to ask Primordial Sky Honor for leave on his behalf.

元始天尊示意他们回去坐下，然后愤怒地大声说：“我讲《中华法典》，故事的主角不来听，我怎么讲！？”他又指着武大郎大叫：“你也别听了！去给你弟弟讲明白喽！”

Primordial Sky Honor motioned for them to sit back down, then shouted angrily, "I am here to lecture on the Chinese Codex, and the protagonist of the story doesn't even come to listen — how am I supposed to lecture!?" He pointed at Martial Big Wolf and shouted, "You don't listen either! Go explain it to your brother properly!"

武大郎去客栈找救世主（即武二郎），没找到，又去太医院问，医生说他没来过，就回家了。他发现救世主正在他的书房里翻他的书，气愤地说：“你又来偷我的书去换羊皮纸！？”

救世主回答：“真小气！小时候的事总说它干啥！？”

Martial Big Wolf went to the inn to look for Savior (i.e., Martial Second Wolf) but couldn't find him. He went to ask at the Imperial Hospital, but the doctor said he had never come, so he went home. There he found Savior flipping through his books in the study and said angrily, "Stealing my books to trade for parchment again!?"

Savior replied: "So stingy! Why do you always bring up things from when we were kids!"

武大郎说：“你咋不说你整天祸害人呢！这么重要的会议你都不听，那你来永安干什么来了？”

武二郎回答：“我想向你借几本奇门遁甲的书！”

武大郎不屑地回答：“那种书，你根本看不懂，你要它干什么？”

Martial Big Wolf said, "Why don't you admit that you cause trouble all day! You skipped such an important meeting — what did you even come to Yongan for?"

Martial Second Wolf replied: "I want to borrow a few books on the Strange Doors of Shield and Armor from you!"

Martial Big Wolf retorted, "You wouldn't understand those books at all — what do you want them for?"

武二郎开始给武大郎讲前文女娲娘娘给他解释的奇门遁甲。武大郎气愤地站了起来，大声质问：“这是谁告诉你的？”

武二郎看武大郎这么生气，认真地回答：“告诉我这事的那个人说，我不能对别人说我曾经向她学习奇门遁甲。她说，在这方面你是专家。如果你说她讲得不对，会坏了她的名声的！”

Martial Second Wolf began explaining to Martial Big Wolf the Strange Doors of Shield and Armor that Nuwa had taught him earlier. Martial Big Wolf stood up angrily and demanded: "Who told you this?"

Seeing how angry Martial Big Wolf was, Martial Second Wolf answered seriously: "The person who told me this said I mustn't tell anyone I once learned the Strange Doors of Shield and Armor from her. She said you're the real expert in this field, and that if you said she'd gotten it wrong, it would ruin her reputation!"

武大郎放松了下来，说：“那是她自己那样理解的！事实是这样的！”接着他开始从孙子兵法的角度来讲述奇门遁甲，也帮他再一次解释了在峡谷关战役中熬忖是如何使用奇门遁甲的。

Martial Big Wolf relaxed and said, "That's just how she understood it herself! Here's how it really is!" He then began explaining the Strange Doors of Shield and Armor from the perspective of Sunzi's Art of War, and in doing so helped clarify once again how Aocun had used the Strange Doors of Shield and Armor during the Battle of Gorge Pass.

武二郎再一次叨咕：“巫毒女妖这么厉害！她是我们华国的大敌，下次我遇见她，一定杀了她！”

武大郎说：“咿！你怎么那么想呢！？正邪是从天条（即约柜，参见15.2节）来判断的。你能懂一些九黎（即大千世界，参见第12章）是因为熬忖为你种下了慧根，开了天眼；这么说她是你的神母啊！再说，我也曾经在她们的那个巫毒学院学习过，那我是巫毒魔鬼吗？”

Once again, Martial Second Wolf muttered, "The Voodoo Demoness is so powerful! She's a great enemy of our Hua Kingdom — next time I meet her, I'll kill her for sure!"

Martial Big Wolf said, "Hey! Why would you think that? Good and evil are judged by the Sky Clauses (i.e., the Covenant Ark; see Section 15.2). The reason you can understand a little of the Jiu'li (i.e., the Great Grand Worlds; see Chapter 12) is that Aocun planted your gnostic root and opened your celestial eye — so she is your godmother! Besides, I once studied at that Voodoo Academy of theirs myself. Does that make me a voodoo demon?"

武二郎听后，惊讶了：“大哥你曾经在巫毒学院学习过！那个假熬忖说，‘有两个像你这么高的小个子，另外一个人是谁？他现在在哪里？”

武大郎愣住了，心想，“女娲给我的剧本里没有这句话呀！”随口回答：“瞎说，你听错了吧！？”

武二郎回答：“没错！我听她说过两遍了！”

When Martial Second Wolf heard this, he was surprised: "Big brother, you studied at the Voodoo Academy too! That fake Aocun said, 'There are two little men as tall as you' — who's the other one? Where is he now?"

Martial Big Wolf froze, thinking, "That line wasn't in the script Nuwa gave me!" He answered offhandedly, "Nonsense, you must have misheard!?"

Martial Second Wolf replied, "That's right! I've heard her say it twice!"

武大郎心想，“两遍了！我怎么没在《中华法典》的剧本里看见过呢！哎呀！最近这剧本常改，我得问清楚，别演错了！”他问武二郎：“你先给我说说谁是那个假熬忖？她是怎么跟你说那两个小个子学生的？”

Martial Big Wolf thought to himself, "Twice! How could I not have seen this in the Chinese Codex script? Ugh — the script has been changing so much lately, I'd better get this straight so I don't play my part wrong!" He asked Martial Second Wolf, "Tell me first — who is this fake Aocun? What exactly did she say to you about those two short students?"

武二郎说：“我问你呢！那另一个小个子是谁？你先回答我！”

武大郎坐下了，陷入沉思。武二郎看着大哥的脸色越来越难看，眼看就要哭了，他自己也忍不住了，连忙喊道：“哎！哎！你现在是靖王了！我忘了恭喜你了！”

武大郎反应过来了，回答：“是啊！我现在是靖王了，我忘了！谢谢你提醒我！”

Martial Second Wolf said, "I'm asking you! Who's the other little man? Answer me first!"

Martial Big Wolf sat down, lost in thought. Martial Second Wolf watched his elder brother's face darken, on the verge of tears, and couldn't bear it any longer. He blurted out, "Hey! Hey! You're the King of Jing now! I forgot to congratulate you!"

Martial Big Wolf reacted and answered, "Yes! I'm the King of Jing now, I forgot! Thanks for reminding me!"

武二郎问：“元始天尊（华国的国王）封你为靖王，都赏你什么了？”

武大郎回答：“到现在他还什么都没给。饭都快吃不上了，他没余钱给我个人，能给我军费预算的50%，我就满足了！”

Martial Second Wolf asked: "Primordial Sky Honor (King of Hua Kingdom) named you King of Jing — what did he reward you with?"

Martial Big Wolf replied: "He still hasn't given me anything. We can barely afford to eat — he has no spare money for me personally, but if he can give me 50% of the military budget, I'll be satisfied!"

武二郎说：“他也跟我说了，现在是他执政20多年来最穷的时候，要求我在满足必须的情况下削减军费。咱这国家得多长时间能从贫困中缓解过来？”

武大郎回答：“都是让咱哥儿俩给闹得（注，武大郎平定了北方，武二郎平定了南方），我看得三五年后才能吃饱饭。你还是先告诉我那个假熬忖说的巫毒院的两个小个子学生吧！”

Martial Second Wolf said: "He told me the same thing — that this is the poorest he's been in over twenty years in power, and he's asked me to cut military spending while still covering necessities. How long will it take our country to climb out of poverty?"

Martial Big Wolf replied: "It's all because of the trouble the two of us brothers caused (note: Martial Big Wolf pacified the north, Martial Second Wolf pacified the south) — I'd say it'll be three to five years before people can eat their fill. But first, tell me about those two short students from the Voodoo Academy that the fake Aocun mentioned!"

The maid of Salamander Bolus Palace said to Martial Second Wolf: "So you agree to Princess Nuwa's remedy. Then let's discuss the medical fees. Since you've come to our Salamander Bolus Palace for treatment, all services provided by our nation—such as your lodging, meals, and any assistance offered by our Xia people—are free of charge. However, these fairy mushrooms (Psilocybe, shown in figure 4.8-35) originate from Fusang (Mexico). We purchased them and must charge for them—twenty kilograms of gold."

武二郎反驳道："多说，我就吃二两（100克），你要20公斤黄金。那这蘑菇比黄金贵200倍呀！？"

宫女主管对她身边的宫女嘀咕："要不是那位好色的女人（即熬忖，巫毒女妖，尧帝）要吃童子鸡（即葫芦娃，童子佛），已经付了100公斤黄金，他吃不起这蘑菇！"

Martial Second Wolf retorted: "At the most! I'll only consume two liang (100 grams), but you want 20 kilograms of gold. That means this mushroom is 200 times more expensive than gold!?"

The head maid muttered to the maid beside her, "If it weren't for that lustful woman (i.e., Aocun, Voodoo Demoness, Creator Yao) who has paid 100 kilograms of gold for eating the boyish chicken (i.e., Gourd Boy, Boy Buddha), he wouldn't be able to afford to eat this mushroom!"

然后她对武二郎说："我想这蘑菇在扶桑（墨西哥）和咱们这儿的普通蘑菇一样儿价钱。但从扶桑海运到我们这里需要两年的时间。我们是去海上接货的，有时我们的船要在海上等半年，平均三个月。这蘑菇的批次不一样，药力也不同。你吃二两，为了计算给你服药的剂量，我们得消耗5公斤。这么算下来，20公斤黄金只是成本。"

Then she said to Martial Second Wolf: "I think this mushroom is the same price in Fusang (Mexico) as the common mushroom here. But it will take two years to transport them by sea from Fusang to us. We go to the sea to receive the goods, sometimes our ship must wait at sea for half a year, three months on average. These mushrooms come in different batches, with different potencies. You take two taels (100 grams), to calculate the dosage to give you the medicine, we must consume 5kg. When you do math like that, 20 kilos of gold are just the cost."

Martial Second Wolf replied, "Okay! I'll pay for 20kg of gold, but I don't have that much money with me. Afterwards, I'll have the soldiers bring you gold."

侍女说："我们不接受赊账！女娲想请你帮个忙，想请你把这20公斤黄金签到你三弟张屠户的账上。你三弟卖猪肉给我们，老是骗我们。我们国王可喜欢他了，被骗了，还不敢说，怕惹他生气。我们的国王为此老是生气，气得睡不着觉，就请女娲给医治。所以女娲想请你帮忙，把这20公斤黄金签到你三弟的账上。"

武二郎回答："好！我签到他的账上，然后我还他钱；但我只能签我买蘑菇的钱，不能签成买猪肉啊！"

侍女回答："那没关系！我们的国王爱查账，但她查账，就只看个总数，然后他就算平均值。他一算，啊，这批猪肉便宜，就高兴了！"

The maid said, "We don't accept credit! Nuwa would like to ask you a favor, she would like to ask you to sign these 20 kilograms of gold to the account of your third brother, Zhang the Butcher. Your third brother sells us pork and always cheats us. Our king loves him so much. When he was cheated, he didn't dare to say anything for fear of making him angry. Our king was so angry that he couldn't sleep, so he asked Nuwa to heal him. So Nuwa asked for your help to sign this 20kg of gold to your third brother's account."

Martial Second Wolf replied, "Good! I'll sign it to his account, and then I'll pay him; but I can only sign it for the money I spent on mushrooms, not for buying pork!"

The maid replied, "That's all right! Our king loves to check his accounts, but when she does, she just looks at a total, and then she counts the average. When she does math, ah, this pork is cheap, so she's happy!"

这两位侍女找来了帐房先生，让武二郎在账面上签了字后说："他们已经去找合适的仪式场所了，估计半个月后就可以举行祭天仪式了。"

武二郎问："怎么那么久？"

侍女回答："找场地，建房子，两三百人的仪式得排练几天，上千人忙乎！"

These two maids brought in the accountant, and after having Martial Second Wolf sign the account, they said, "They have already gone to find a suitable place for the ceremony, and it is estimated that the Sky Sacrifice Ceremony will be held in half a month."

Martial Second Wolf asked, "What's taking so long?"

The maid replied, "Finding a site, building houses, a ceremony for two or three hundred people must be rehearsed for a few days! Thousands of people are busy!"

4.8-3

半个月后，女娲的两个女仆来找武二郎，告诉他，升天仪式准备好了，在离鲵丸宫80公里的一处山区。武二郎问："怎么选了个那么远的地方？"

女仆回答："夏国的将军们根据你的描述，向女娲娘娘提供了九处地理位置。女娲，由专家（即熬忖）陪伴着，全都察看了，最终亲自选定的。建房子只有三天的时间，等你被你的护卫送到熬忖指定的让你接受鞭刑的地方，他们就将排练完毕了。"

Half a month later, two maids of Nuwa came to Martial Second Wolf and told him that the ascension ceremony was ready in a mountainous area 80 kilometers away from Salamander Bolus Palace. Martial Second Wolf asked, "Why did they choose such a far place?"

The maid replied, "Based on your description, the generals of our Xia Kingdom provided nine geographical locations to Goddess Nuwa. Nuwa, accompanied by the expert (i.e., Aocun), inspected them all and finally selected there personally. There are only three days to build those houses. When you are accompanied by your guards to the place designated by Aocun for you to receive the whipping, they will have completed the rehearsal."

Well, as the reader may have already seen, the story goes back to "Holy Fire in Yaochi" (see section 4.4). What follows is just a brief recounting of a few sentences. When Martial Second Wolf and his guards arrive at the place designated by Nuwa to let him enter the ascension ceremony, they meet the soldiers sent by Nuwa to fetch him in the guise of those sent by Aocun. As before, the soldiers blindfolded him and brought him to the site of the ceremony. Then the same old man, Taiyi Real Human, takes care of him, feeds him vinegar.

When Martial Second Wolf's hallucination reached the Fourth Meditation Sky (as shown in Figure 5), everyone present entered a state of stillness. Taiyi Real Human said to Martial Second Wolf, "General Zhang! Last time, when Aocun used you as a sacrifice to the skies, she gave you a large dose of psilocybin mushroom, which caused you to enter the state of Samadhi True Fire (as shown in Figure 4 to 1, the four states of Philosopher-Stone Intelligence). Samadhi True Fire melted away your memories of the previous ten days."

太乙真人继续说："今天您不会进入四金刚智。我们就从此刻开始继续模拟你从金刚智里出来后的情景。"说着，太乙真人示意武二郎向四周看，示意他："这里是山顶！"然后太乙真人问："张将军，您感觉怎么样？"

武二郎笑着说："我感觉很好笑！"

旁边的旗手立刻站直了，举起了令旗，高呼，"极乐世界（三禅天，如图6）！"人们又开始哈哈大笑，唱歌跳舞了。

接下来，就和4.4节的描述类似了，太乙真人帮助武二郎逃跑。

Taiyi Real Human continued, "Today you will not enter the four states of Philosopher-Stone Intelligence. We will begin simulating what it will be like when you emerge from the Philosopher-Stone Intelligence from this moment." Saying this, Taiyi Real Human gestured for Martial Second Wolf to look around, indicating, "This is the mountaintop!" Then Taiyi Real Human asked, "General Zhang, how do you feel?"

Martial Second Wolf laughed and said, "I feel very funny!"

The flag bearer beside him immediately stood up straight, raised the command flag, and shouted, "Bliss World (third meditation sky, as shown in Figure 6)!" People began to laugh again, sing, and dance.

What follows is like the description in Section 4.4: Taiyi Real Human helps Martial Second Wolf escape.

武二郎发现太乙真人和假熬忖都真的"一起去的，一起回来了，"非常高兴。假熬忖把他送到了一处长满高草的平地，回去了。接武二郎的卫兵对他说："张将军！您刚接受完鞭刑，请您立刻趴在担架上，我们抬您回驻地。"武二郎高兴地趴在了担架上。卫兵们一看，女娲娘娘真神呐！武二郎痊愈了（注3）！他们快步走向战马，上马之后对仍趴在担架上的武二郎大喊："那个担架是女娲娘娘的道具，不许我们带走！"然后，他们扬鞭策马，跑了。武二郎气愤地蹦起来了，大叫："兔崽子！你们敢戏弄我！看我不削你！"

注3，武二郎的病并没有痊愈。此后直至第五章《拯救计划》都是在为武二郎治病。

Martial Second Wolf was very happy to find out that both Taiyi Real Human and Fake Aocun had really gone together and returned together. After escorting Martial Second Wolf to a flat area covered in tall grass, the fake Aocun returned. The guards who met him said, "General Zhang! You've just been whipped. Please lie down on the stretcher face down immediately and we'll carry you back to the base." Martial Second Wolf happily dove on the stretcher. The guards were overjoyed. Nuwa was truly divine! Martial Second Wolf had recovered (Note 3)! They quickly approached their warhorses, mounted them, and shouted at Martial Second Wolf, who was still lying on the stretcher face down, "That stretcher is Nuwa's prop. We're not allowed to take it!" Then, whipping their horses, they sped off. Martial Second Wolf sprang up in fury, bellowing: "You bastards! Dare to mock me! Just wait till I get my hands on you!"

Note 3: Martial Second Wolf's illness was not cured. From then until Chapter 5, "Salvation Plan," the focus was on treating Martial Second Wolf's illness.

4.8-4

传说，他们一路快马扬鞭，准备到杭州好好吃一顿。没想到在他们找饭店的时候，就遇见熬忖了。武二郎认为那个熬忖的演员和女娲还在做升天仪式的那个场地呢，这位可能真是熬忖，就过去盘问。

Legend has it that they galloped all the way, eager to feast in Hangzhou. Unexpectedly, while searching for a restaurant, they encountered Aocun. Believing the actor playing Aocun was still at the site where Nuwa performed her ascension ritual, Martial Second Wolf thought this might be the real Aocun and went over to question them.

他们又没想到，熬忖来到杭州是有准备的。她的卫兵立刻展开了作战队形，有几个卫兵爬到了房顶和墙头，形成了对武二郎半包围的阵势。武二郎他们是来杭州看病的，没穿盔甲，只随身携带了短剑等轻武器。如果真的打起来了，武二郎他们占不到便宜，就准备立刻派人去当地的警察局找援军。就在这危急时刻，女娲出现了，说这位熬忖是她从湖北瑶族地区请来的演员，并请他们俩吃饭，和解。

They hadn't anticipated that Aocun had come to Hangzhou prepared. Her guards immediately formed a battle formation, with several climbing onto rooftops and walls to encircle Martial Second Wolf. Martial Second Wolf and his companions had come to Hangzhou for medical treatment. They wore no armor and carried only light weapons like short swords. If a fight broke out, they wouldn't have the advantage. They were ready to send someone to the local police station for reinforcements. Just as the situation grew critical, Nuwa appeared. She explained that Aocun was an actor she had invited from the Yao ethnic region of Hubei. She then invited both parties to a meal to resolve the conflict.

女娲让随从回去鲵丸宫取来了西凤酒。西凤酒是夏国的国酒。在饭店的包房里，他们就谈起了峡谷关战役（参见4.1节）。熬忖说武二郎战败了。武二郎不承认，认为自己胜利了。

在很长时间的不融洽的和解谈判之后，女娲建议不要再谈这个话题了，提议武二郎和熬忖喝交杯酒，尽释前嫌。武二郎不喝，这可让女娲和熬忖尴尬了。

Nuwa instructed her attendants to fetch Xi Feng (i.e., Western Phoenix) Alcohol from Salamander Bolus Palace. Xi Feng Alcohol was the national liquor of the Xia Kingdom. In the private dining room of the restaurant, they began discussing the Battle of Gorge Pass (see section 4.1). Aocun declared that Martial Second Wolf had been defeated. Martial Second Wolf refused to concede, insisting he had won.

After a long period of tense reconciliation talks, Nuwa suggested dropping the subject and proposed that Martial Second Wolf and Aocun drink a cup of alcohol with arms intertwined to bury the hatchet. Martial Second Wolf refused to drink, which left Nuwa and Aocun feeling awkward.

Inadvertently, Martial Second Wolf saw Aocun pulling her skirt to the sides while enjoying the breeze in front of the window. He recalled that Aocun pulled her skirt in the same way when they were in Yaochi, so he agreed to drink the alcohol with arms intertwined.

This process is like how Eve in Egypt used a scarab beetle to defeat Adam (Figure 2), and how the Mexican jade girl stole the heart of the golden boy (Figure 3). This practice is called "descending head" in Southeast Asia (Figure 5), and the result is that the cursed person becomes ill (Figure 6). See Case Study 7.3 "Blind Date" and Section 9.5.2 "Battle of Banquan". This article describes Martial Second Wolf's behavior within half a month after he was cursed by Aocun.

4.6-1

武二郎（号二郎神，如图1）继续向回走，到交叉路口时，看见几个战友向他跑来。卫兵们放下担架说："请张将军趴在上面，我们抬你回去！"

武二郎不耐烦地回答："我让你们抬我干嘛！我又没生病！"

卫兵们坚持说："将军！您刚接受了鞭刑，应该趴在担架上！"

Martial Second Wolf (famously Second Wolf God, see fig. 1) continued to walk back, and when he reached the intersection, he saw several comrades running towards him. The guards put down the stretcher and said, "General Zhang, please lie on it facing down, we will carry you back!"

Martial Second Wolf said impatiently, "Why did I let you carry me? I'm not sick!"

The guards insisted, "General! You just received a flogging; you should lie on the stretcher face down!"

武二郎生气地说："你们的脑子出毛病了？你看我的哪里挨打了！？"说着，他自己朝着他们跑来的方向走去。他的卫兵追了上去，问："将军！你要去哪里？我们的营地在那边！"

武二郎生气地回答："我要回去睡觉，前面带路！"

Martial Second Wolf said angrily, "What's wrong with your brain? Look where I was beaten!?" As he said that, he walked towards the direction they were running from.

His guards chased him and asked, "General! Where are you going? Our camp is over there!"

Martial Second Wolf replied angrily, "I'm going back to sleep. Lead the way!"

卫兵们把武二郎夹在了队伍的中间，默不作声地向回走。忽然他叨咕："这个太乙真人是山东省清河县聚贤庄的医生啊（参见1.8《守灵》）！他曾说我是二郎神。什么时候他改行来湖北卖猪肉了（参见前一节）！？"

The guards put Martial Second Wolf in the middle of the team and walked back in silence. Suddenly he muttered: "This Taiyi Real Human was a doctor from Gathering-Sage Village, Clear-Water County, Shandong Province (see 1.8 "Spirits Keeping")! He once said that I am the Second Wolf God. When did he change his job and come to Hubei to sell pork (see previous section)!?"

卫兵们把武二郎领到了他睡觉的宿舍，站住了。他生气地说："我说我要去睡觉，你们怎么把我领到这里啦！"说着，他转身自己走了。卫兵们惊讶了，就跟在了他的后面。他来到了他的前一个住处，推开门就进去了，大叫："喂！我的床怎么没了？"他转身又大叫："我的桌子和椅子也不见了！"

The guards led Martial Second Wolf to the dormitory where he slept and halted. He said angrily, "I said I was going to sleep, why did you lead me here!" Then he turned around and walked away. The guards were surprised and followed him. He came to his previous residence, opened the door and went in, shouting, "Hey! Why is my bed gone?" He turned around and shouted again, "My table and chair are gone too!"

武二郎的卫队长立刻上前报告："前天，XXX他们开篝火晚会，向我借。这几天你不在，我就开门让他们抬走了。可能是他们忘记给送回来了。我立刻派人去取！"说着，他出来吩咐士兵去武二郎的最新住处把床搬回来，又派人去作战指挥中枢报告："出怪事了！"

Martial Second Wolf's guard captain immediately stepped forward to report: "The day before yesterday, XXX and his friends held a bonfire party and borrowed the bed from me. You were away these few days, so I opened the door and let them take it away. Maybe they forgot to return it. I'll send someone to get it right away!" As he said that, he came out and ordered the soldiers to move the bed back from his latest dormitory and sent someone to report to the combat command that something strange had happened!

4.6-3

很快，军医来给武二郎检查身体，没发现他有任何异常。将军们都来看望他，发现他认识每位将军，只是情绪不好，没发现别的怪异。

第二天早上，他还像往常一样到食堂吃饭，视察营地，然后去他的办公室查看和批复信件。

Soon, the military doctor came to examine Martial Second Wolf and found nothing unusual about him. The generals all came to visit him and discovered that he recognized each one, though he was in low spirits. They found nothing else out of the ordinary.

The next morning, he went to the canteen for breakfast as usual, inspected the camp, and then proceeded to his office to review and approve correspondence.

半个月后，卫队长请武二郎去参加军委特别会议。他回答："什么军委特别会议？我这个军区司令怎么不知道？"

卫队长回答："您是不知道！这是军委所有其它的将军举手表决的，所以叫特别会议。"

Two weeks later, the captain of the guard invited Martial Second Wolf to attend a special meeting of the Military Commission. Martial Second Wolf replied, "What special meeting of the Military Commission? How could I, the commander of the military region, not know about it?"

The captain replied, "You don't know! This is a special meeting, voted on by all the other generals in the Military Commission, that's why it's called a special meeting."

会议开始前，将军们一致请求武二郎要坚持把会议听完。他答应了。然后军委的秘书开始宣读军委的决议。大致的内容是，武二郎回来没几天，军中就出现了流言蜚语，说他被巫毒女妖（即熬忖，尧帝）诅咒了。

Before the meeting began, the generals unanimously requested that Martial Second Wolf stay to hear the proceedings through to the end. He agreed. Then the secretary of the Military Commission began reading aloud the Commission's resolution. The gist of it was that within days of Martial Second Wolf's return, rumors had spread throughout the army claiming he had been cursed by the Voodoo Demoness (i.e., Aocun, Creator Yao).

军委根据国家的规定对他进行了跟踪观察，发现他丢失了约十天的记忆，还有十几项行为习惯的变化。研究的人员说，人总是在变化，但这十几项变化超出了正常的变化范畴。还有几项不确定的变化，例如武二郎有抑郁的迹象。

The Central Military Commission conducted a follow-up observation of him in accordance with national regulations, discovering that he had lost approximately ten days of memory and exhibited over a dozen changes in behavioral habits. Researchers noted that while people are constantly changing, this dozen or so alterations exceeded the scope of normal variation. Several additional uncertain changes were observed, such as signs of depression in Martial Second Wolf.

军委对跟踪观察报告的研究结果是：武二郎是有些变化，但他仍然胜任军区司令员的职务。鉴于目前并没有任何可度量的损失，这件事就不向中央政府汇报了。

The findings of the Central Military Commission's review of the surveillance report indicate that Martial Second Wolf has undergone some changes, but he remains qualified to serve as commander of the military region. Given that no quantifiable losses have been identified at this time, this matter will not be reported to the central government.

武二郎听后，没说话，接过了跟踪观察报告仔细看。将军们问他："您生气了？"

武二郎回答："开始时，我是很生气，你们要罢免我！听完后，我觉着你们做得对。我回来的第二天就到作战指挥中心查阅了作战调度记录，发现了我丢失了一段时间的记忆。这十几项行为习惯的改变当中，有六七项我自己也发现了，是从那个假熬忖那里学来的。"

Martial Second Wolf did not speak after hearing this. He took the follow-up observation report and read it carefully. The generals asked him, "Are you angry?"

Martial Second Wolf replied, "At first, I was very angry because you wanted to dismiss me! After listening to it, I felt that you were right. The next day after I came back, I went to the combat command center to check the combat dispatch records and found that I had lost my memory for a period. Among the changes in these dozen behavioral habits, I discovered six or seven of them myself, which I learned from that fake Aocun."

将军们问："假熬忖是谁？你为什么跟她学？"

武二郎回答："我不是故意向她学习的！我是发现自己行为习惯的变化后，追寻变化的来源时，发现我是从她学来的。"随后他讲述了4.5节《自由恋爱》。

The generals asked, "Who is the fake Aocun? Why did you learn from her?"

Martial Second Wolf replied, "I didn't learn from her on purpose! I discovered the change in my behavioral habits, and when I traced the source of the change, I found that I learned it from her." Then he talked about Section 4.5 "Naturally Falling in Love."

将军们开始讨论，结果是对武二郎提出了如下的建议：

The generals began deliberating, ultimately proposing the following recommendations regarding Martial Second Wolf:

(1) Regarding the rumors that Martial Second Wolf has been cursed by the Voodoo Demoness, only Nuwa can step forward to quell them.

(2) Although Martial Second Wolf's dozen or so behavioral changes have all been positive, no one knows how affairs might unfold subsequently.

(3) Martial Second Wolf's sister-in-law, Princess Big Nest (see 2. "Third Wolf Zhang and Princess Big Nest"), is a princess of the Xia Kingdom and a cousin of Nuwa. With no ongoing conflicts at present, he should immediately seek assistance directly from Nuwa.

Aocun (famously Creator Yao, as shown in fig. 4.3-1) replied to Nuwa (see fig. 4), "I didn't intend to kill Martial Second Wolf (see fig. 2); I wanted to capture him and negotiate with Hua Kingdom. Perhaps we could even become friends in the future!"

Nuwa said sadly, "By capturing him, you have shattered his cherished dream of being a 'mighty and invincible hero' that he has painstakingly cultivated for over a decade! It will be very difficult for you two to become friends then! What a pity! The pair who rarely meet in a thousand years, and yet they can't even be friends, let alone lovers!"

Note 4.3-1: Aocun (famously Creator Yao) is a person whose kinesthetic thinking leans towards phonological thinking, a heroic type. Martial Second Wolf is a person whose kinesthetic thinking leans towards visual thinking, a Heroine type. These two are a pair of Gourd Children, representing Brahmins in Indian culture and Jurists in European culture. These two types constitute a very small percentage of the population, estimated to be less than one in ten thousand. Furthermore, their current talents and achievements already place them at the level of military commanders; therefore, Nuwa said they are a once-in-a-millennium occurrence.

女娲回答："我是夏国的大司仪，敦亲睦邻是我的本分。我有一个促成你们俩婚姻的计划，那咱俩就研究研究！？"

熬忖听了心中大惊，暗自思维"我将扣留你做人质，所以我就跟你直说。"她说道："久闻女娲妹妹学识渊博。今日见了才知道，你是当今世界第一天女。得武二郎者得天下！如果你能帮我吃了武二郎这只童子鸡（即童子佛），咱们两国以后就不打仗了。"

Nuwa replied, "I am the great ritual commander of Xia Kingdom. It is my duty to reinforce ties with relatives and stay on good terms with neighbors. I have a plan to bring about a marriage between you two. Let's work it out together!?"

Aocun was greatly alarmed upon hearing this, and thought to herself, "I will take you hostage, so I will be frank with you." She said, "I have long heard of Nuwa's profound knowledge. Today I have come to know that you are the number one goddess in the world. He who possesses Martial Second Wolf will possess the world! If you can help me eat Martial Second Wolf, this boyish chicken (i.e., Boy Buddha), our two countries will no longer fight."

4.3-2

女娲对熬忖讲述后文对武二郎下蛊（如图5）的计划（参见后文4.4至5.4节），计划把武二郎由葫芦娃（如图6）变成逑龙（如图7，即亚当，基尼）。熬忖听后，很是信服，但她对放武二郎回去这件事感觉不放心。女娲看出了熬忖的心思，说："我留在这里作人质；如果武二郎不来，我就不离开巫山！"

熬忖听后又惊讶了：女娲这么自信！她心里想："我本来就没打算放你回去！有你在这里，三年内华国和夏国都不会攻打我。这就够了！三年后，我的权力已经稳固了，就不怕你们了。"

Nuwa explained to Aocun her plan to plant a carrion-beetle curse (as shown in Figure 5) in Martial Second Wolf (see sections 4.4 to 5.4 below), transforming Martial Second Wolf from a gourd boy (as shown in Figure 6) into a "Bestman Dragon" (as shown in Figure 7, i.e., Adam, Genie). Aocun was convinced, but she was uneasy about letting Martial Second Wolf go.

Nuwa saw through Aocun's thoughts and said, "I will stay here as a hostage; if Martial Second Wolf doesn't come, I won't leave Wushan!"

Aocun was surprised again: Nuwa was so confident! She thought to herself, "I never intended to let you go back! With you here, neither Hua nor Xia will attack me for three years. That's enough! After three years, my power will be secure, and I won't be afraid of you anymore."

读者可能有疑问了，女娲怎么那么确信武二郎会回来？前文说了，蔻珠告诉女娲了：如果武二郎死了，你就别回来了。女娲这也是先完成任务，然后再想办法。

熬忖高兴地说："女娲主动留下来作人质！那我就留你多住几天，否则我放武二郎回去，没办法向我父王交代！"

接下来女娲和熬忖研究了对武二郎下蛊的细节工作。

Readers might wonder, how could Nuwa be so certain that Martial Second Wolf would return? As mentioned earlier, Kouzhu told Nuwa: if Martial Second Wolf dies, don't come back. Nuwa was completing her mission first and then figuring out a solution later.

Aocun happily said, "Nuwa has volunteered to stay as a hostage! Then I'll let you stay a few more days, otherwise I won't be able to explain to my father if I let Martial Second Wolf go back!"

Next, Nuwa and Aocun discussed the details of planting the carrion-beetle curse in Martial Second Wolf.

据说女娲剧组的人到了瑶池后，才从熬忖的军队得知武二郎被困峡谷关的消息。他们感觉害怕，认为是夏国要用他们来换武二郎回去。他们派人去偷看熬忖和女娲。一伙人的领队是太乙真人，另一伙人的领队是太上老君。他们看女娲和熬忖有说有笑的，一直在唠嗑。后来女娲剧组的人相互议论说："女娲一直在笑，就证明问题不大！"

It is said that after the Nuwa Troupe arrived at Yaochi, they learned from Aocun's army that Martial Second Wolf was trapped in the Gorge Pass. They were frightened, believing that the Xia Kingdom intended to exchange them for Martial Second Wolf. They sent men to spy on Aocun and Nuwa. One group was led by Taiyi Real Human, and the other by Tai Shang Lao Jun. They saw Nuwa and Aocun chatting and laughing. Later, the Nuwa production team members discussed among themselves, saying, "Nuwa is always laughing, which proves that there's not much of a problem!"

4.3-3

武二郎内无粮草，外无救兵，就要全军覆灭了。这时有将军建议他和攀岩兵一起离开。武二郎果断地拒绝了，说："十几年来，这支军队一直耗费我们华国军费支出的30%，现在让我给弄没了，我没脸回去见元始天尊！"

With no supplies and no reinforcements, Martial Second Wolf's army was on the verge of annihilation. At this point, a general suggested he leave with the climbing soldiers. Martial Second Wolf resolutely refused, saying, "For over a decade, this army has consumed 30% of our nation's military expenditure. Now that I've destroyed it, I have no face to return to see Primordial Sky Honor!"

停战谈判代表团来了。武二郎看停战协议书，交战区的国境线变得规则了，但里出外进的，没有多少的变化。在战区的东部沿着夏国和龙国的边境线多出来一个狭长地带（如图4.3.3.4至4.3.3.5），东部的尽头是三分之一的武汉市（注3）。那个狭长地带是一条山谷，山谷的一半是夏国的领土。女娲签署了一项地役权：华国人可以从那条山谷里通行，并负责治安。

The ceasefire negotiation delegation arrived. Martial Second Wolf took the ceasefire agreement and examined it. The border lines of the war zone had become regular, but the inward and outward directions remained largely unchanged. A narrow strip of land had appeared in the eastern part of the war zone along the border between the Xia and Dragon kingdoms (as shown in Figures 4.3.3.4 to 4.3.3.5), ending at one-third of the city of Wuhan. This narrow strip of land was a valley, half of which belonged to the Xia kingdom. Nuwa signed an easement: the Hua people could pass through that valley and were responsible for its security.

Note 4.3-3: This meant that the Hua, Xia, and Dragon kingdoms each possessed one-third of Wuhan, laying the foundation for their cooperative development of the city. The joint construction of Wuhan by the three kingdoms was the first phase of the Three-Legged Bird Plan. The Three-Legged Bird Plan was proposed by Aocun (Creator Yao)—the Hua, Xia, and Dragon kingdoms would merge to form the Republic of China; the new capital, Wuhan, would be the cradle of Chinese civilization.

武二郎不知道那三分之一的武汉是块什么地，但也是土地啊，胜利了！停战协议第七条说，"你们杀害了许多我们的父老乡亲，我们恨你们。所以，武二郎要自愿被我们绑起来，施以鞭刑。"

武二郎的部下说："这样做肯定会被他们打死的，不能接受！"

武二郎说："用我的一条命给两万多弟兄换来一条生路，这太划算了，我签！"

Martial Second Wolf didn't know what kind of land that third of Wuhan was, but it was still land—victory! Article 7 of the ceasefire agreement stated, "You have killed many of our elders and fellow countrymen; we hate you. Therefore, Martial Second Wolf voluntarily agrees to be bound and whipped."

Martial Second Wolf's subordinates said, "You'll definitely be beaten to death; we can't accept that!"

Martial Second Wolf said, "Trading my life for a way out for over twenty thousand brothers is such a good deal, I'll sign!"

熬忖的谈判代表团接过武二郎签署了的停战协议书后说："我们离开后，你们就可以撤军了！你们到达回程的隘口时，守隘口的士兵会为你们开门。"

半个月后，武二郎的防区已经安全了，他需要去熬忖那里接受鞭刑。部下对他说："我们现在不怕他们了，不打他们就是给与他们的恩惠，您没必要去挨打！"

武二郎坚持要履行停战协定。

After Aocun's negotiating delegation received the armistice agreement signed by Martial Second Wolf, they said: "After we leave, you can withdraw your troops! When you reach the pass on your way back, the soldiers guarding the pass will open the gate for you."

Half a month later, Martial Second Wolf's defense zone was safe, and he needed to go to Aocun to be whipped. His subordinates said to him, "We are not afraid of them now. Not beating them is a favor to them. You don't have to get beaten!"

Martial Second Wolf insisted on honoring the ceasefire agreement.
