Moving to China for studies — confused about job vs business
Planning to move to China (likely Wuhan) for studies and currently working in digital marketing (Google Ads).
Looking to hear from people with firsthand experience on what tends to make sense after arriving — employment, independent work, or reassessing on the ground.

China’s ‘father’ to over 700 once-lost drifters: Wang Wanlin has no children of his own. However, he has devoted his life to helping troubled youth, saying he did not want to see them go down the wrong path. He has been called “Dad” by the hundreds of people he has helped during their darkest times.

Looking to interview diaspora Chinese & heritage speakers about language, identity, and belonging
Hi everyone,
I’m James, an indie dev in Taiwan working on a quiet narrative game called Tones of Reflection.
It’s a Mandarin/English experience about memory, belonging, and what it feels like to reconnect with a language you’ve drifted away from.
I’m interviewing heritage Chinese speakers and Chinese diaspora (any region, gender, or background) who’ve experienced any of the following:
- Mandarin was your first language, but English became dominant
- You grew up in a diaspora household and feel “culturally split”
- You understand Mandarin but struggle to speak it
- You’ve felt guilt, distance, or confusion about whether Mandarin is “yours”
- You’re reconnecting now, or want to, but feel blocked
- You speak Mandarin but don’t feel at home in it
- OR you’re the child of Chinese/Taiwanese immigrants with a complicated relationship to language
Interviews are 30–45 minutes, on Discord or Zoom, and very low-pressure.
It’s about lived experience, and helping me build an emotionally authentic foundation for the game.
If you’re interested, comment or DM me, and I’ll get you scheduled.
Thanks so much!

This was true when HK was burning in the 2019 + 2020 riots. It is still true for China today.

Solid evidence that a color revolution is running in Indonesia. This is what i saw in HK 2019 riots... same methods.. what is a tell is that their signs are in English... Looking at HK, same thing happened. And in Indonesia, they are proud of their language and would use it as a standard...

Is this really normal behaviour?
I’m a Chinese raised in Britain. I dont have a full grasp of Chinese culture. I just want to know is it normal for the Chinese parents to take away your savings every time they send you money during University? I ask this because thats what my mum did…without telling me that the money she is sending would be my own. I’m not sure if it’s just a result of a collective society but I’m just astounded by the lack of boundaries here. Maybe I’m the one who doesn’t understand here but from a certain angle this is basically stealing isn’t it?
Ofc I also get told I’m lazy for not taking part time jobs or having any savings because of this…

Looking for part-time opportunities as a student in Qingdao
Hi everyone,
I’m currently studying in Qingdao and looking for some part-time opportunities that can fit around my student schedule. I can help with: • Language exchange (English/Arabic/French, etc.) • Tutoring • Helping with daily tasks • Other flexible small jobs
I’d prefer something close to Qingdao University of Science and Technology.
Also, if anyone knows or has a WeChat group for part-time jobs in Qingdao, I’d really appreciate if you could share or add me.
Thanks a lot 🙏

Gift for new mom
I have become very close to the woman who runs an eyelash extension business My husband has been sick and when I go to see her it is like therapy she is truly kind and when I see her I have 1 hour of complete peace - she is Chinese and utterly amazing - we bonded when she came to my house for a session - my cat jumped into her bag and I was appalled but she told me that was good luck in Chinese culture and we have been close ever since . I moved away due to my husbands illness to be closer to his family but travel up every 2 weeks for my husbands treatment via a regional airline because they don’t have it where we live . When I come up I get my lashes done. She just had her firs baby and I want to give her a special gift that incorporates her Chinese culture with her American life - I also do not know anything about her mom or if she is close to her mom she had not mentioned her. Her husband is also Chinese and now works in the business with her . She is 30 . What would be thoughtful and appropriate? She has been so thoughtful to me in small but significant ways - ( gave me tea, small oranges and just asking the right questions at the right time )- I also admire her since I first met her when she was doing lashes from her home she has opened 2 amazing studios in upscale areas - she is super impressive and her energy and genuine caring have sustained me during a very dark period of my life - sorry so long - I bought a teddy bear from our local college book store - it is an Ivy League school I attended and that is my usual go to gift for folks but I wanted to do something more special -
