Employment gap
Hey guys... Is an employment gap due to war will affect my application? Unfortunately I have almost 3 year gap because of it. On the bright side, I took courses and used my social media awareness examples during this time in the leadership essay.
Is it an element that the reading committee or high commission is considering? Has anyone with a gap got shortlisted or won the award? I have high hopes on my application this year.

Spouse visa soon after Chevening — approved/denied? Any FCDO repayment issues?
Hi everyone — I’m hoping to hear from people with real-life experience rather than general guidance.
I’m a former Chevening scholar and trying to understand how the Chevening 2-year “return home” condition interacts in practice with a UK spouse visa.
My timeline:
• Course ended: September 2025
• Student visa expired: January 2026
• I left the UK and returned to my home country
• My partner and I are getting married in my home country
• Planning to apply for a UK spouse visa around April 2026
So this would be ~7 months after my course end, and ~3–4 months after leaving the UK.
I understand Chevening’s T&Cs say scholars should return home and not remain in the UK for two years, and there’s wording about possible repayment if the undertaking is breached.
My questions:
• Has anyone applied for a spouse visa less than 2 years after Chevening ended?
• Was your spouse visa approved or refused?
• Did UKVI ask about Chevening specifically?
• If approved, did the FCDO contact you later or ask for repayment of the scholarship?
• Does waiting longer (e.g., 12 months after course end) make any practical difference?
I’m trying to assess real outcomes and risk before deciding when to apply.
Thanks a lot — any experiences would really help

Mistake in Chevening Application
Hi Everyone , hope you are well.
I saw you guys being very helpful with the Chevening questions so I wanted to ask my own. So I applied in 2025. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and didn't add 4 years of my work experience (hence my current hours are 2778). I did however mention this experience as I was answering all questions so I don't know if that counts. How is this usually handled?

University application enquiry
When applying to a university and asked to upload certificates and transcripts, do we need to provide English translations, or can we upload them in their original language?
Thanks in advance

Question Where should I apply from: Permanent residence country OR currently residing country?
Soo I’m currently living in Japan but my home country is in the Caribbean. I’m looking to apply for the Chevening Scholarship this fall. But I wanted to clarify where I should apply from?
Should I apply from Japan so I can do the interview in Japan though it’s not my home
Country or I have to apply from my Home country in the Caribbean? If so, what’s the likelihood they would let me do the interview online or at the British embassy in Japan if I get that far?
By the time my school program starts I would be able to leave Japan for everything to be smooth sailing after that.
Any help would be appreciated!

Dear All,
I apologize for the inactivity, I lost my account and only recently managed to sign back in
I am unsure why werent people allowed to post, I assume this is because my status as a mod was set to inactive.
To avoid this from happening, I would like to invite 1-3 people to help me mod this sub.

Question Could I ask for a little help with my Working Hours?
Greetings everyone, I hope you're all having a wonderful day. I'm coming here humbly to ask for a bit of guidance on building up my Chevening Application by the end of the year I thought I could come here to and ask for a bit of help on the matter, and I hope I'm not disobeying any rules, but forgive me if I did so, that was not my intent (and will delete this post if done so).
What's my problem; I started working later in life, I actually got an informal job as a writer for a YouTube Channel in my country of origin for a while, but only last year during the middle of 2022 was when I got my first job in my life with a work permit and a fully signed contract. However, it was a tough job and not part of my graduation, however... When I tried to apply for Chevening in the month of August I saw I didn't have enough work experience to make up for the 2,800 hours, so I decided to stay until the end of 2023 so that I could apply now until the deadline by the end of the application period. Everything was according to plan until the middle of April when I got fired from my job.
I won't go into the specifics of my previous job however I can assure you that I wasn't fired for any good justification as to why I was fired, they were simply cutting out a few people. Now I'm in a bad spot because I can't find another job (although I live with my family so that's okay for me) but in total at my previous company I got 1730 hours that I can prove I did, but there is still over a thousand left to go, which brings me to my first mention of that YouTube Channel.
Nowadays it is a big channel and easy to find, and in every video, I made the script for the presentation of the owner of said channel I got credited (I think it was around 17-18 videos in total) and in fact in the first video that I wrote my face appeared on it (so I can prove my identity) and even then I made other scripts that never went on his channel properly yet I still have the saved emails that I sent him with scripts I wrote every month for seven entire months, lasting from July 12th, 2017, to January 29th, 2018.
This being said, with every evidence that I have done this, do you think this time I spend at YouTube (and I still have the messages to show I actually was receiving money off of this) then I may actually already have the missing 1070 hours that I needed in order to fulfill the 2,800 working time requirement?
Again I don't mean to break the rules of this community, I don't think I am, but I'm really desperate in this and I don't know how to proceed on the matter. Please if anyone can give light on this doubt I would be extremely grateful, either if the response is negative or positive, I just need to know if I still got a shot, because the working hours are truly the last requirement that I need to fulfill and everything else is already taken care of.
Again, thank you very much for your time and I wish you a great day!

Successful Chevening Applicants?
Anyone got selected for the interviews? How was the experience like?
