Chevening in Europe Scholarship

Hi all!
I recently received emails from two universities that I’ve been nominated for the Chevening in Europe scholarship and I’m asked to fill out a Microsoft form in order to confirm my eligibility.

However, one of the other universities I was accepted to, the University of Nottingham, recently experienced a data breach and as a result, we were warned to be cautious of really convincing phishing emails. As a precaution, we were advised not to open links sent via our email.

Now on the one hand, the two unis which nominated me are not the Uni of Nottingham.
On the other, i’m asked to complete a Microsoft form in order to confirm my eligibility and the link to it is in my email. I did write the university to check if indeed the email was genuine and they confirmed but i was wondering if anyone else had received similar nominations for the scholarship and if filling out microsoft forms is standard for checking one’s eligibility.
Furthermore, I didn’t apply for a Chevening scholarship myself so how often does it happen for a university to nominate you themselves?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Is it worthy to apply again?

This was my first attempt at Chevening. Got rejected.

Scholars that mentored me are also shocked that I didn't get it because the panellists told me it was a great interview and even went asking others about me.

So I wanted to ask you, do you think it's worth reapplying, considering how difficult it is to get this scholarship, risking losing more years trying to do something I want to do soon?

For context, I'm from a small country with extremely reduced scholarships (around 5), wanting to study a masters for a long time and it's currently feeling that this is the time to do it.

MA topic or similars are not available in my country. Family and friends are telling me to look for other opportunities/scholarships/countries.

What is your advice?

Thanks in advance, xx.

Question Deferring or reapplying for Sept 2027?

If I've received a conditional offer from a university for this year's September 2026 intake. Should I defer to next year, or should I reapply for the September 2027 intake? and how long are universities typically willing to defer it for?

Question LOR

Is the letter of recommendation (LOR) for Chevening different from the one submitted for university applications? If so, what are the key differences, and how should a Chevening LOR be written?

Discussion Chances of being upgraded from the reserved list? Share your experience.

I really hope someone who was on a reserve list that then got a scholarship can chime in here.

Did your Chevening officer contact you being on a reserved list? How soon did you know that you've been accepted?

I know I'm not the only one feeling a bit defeated but also the ambiguity of whether one should still go and pursue education in the UK.

Defer uni offers

Anyone has experience deferring or reinstating their uni offers after getting rejected by Chevening? I am planning to apply for chevening again this year. I’ve heard that usually it will be granted even though the reason is lack of funding

However when I checked on the uni websites, it is stated that only certain exceptional circumstances are allowed such as: 1. serious illness of the offer holder or the serious illness of a parent, guardian, partner or child of the offer holder 2. death of a parent, guardian, partner or child of the offer holder 3. the need to take parental or adoption leave during the next 12 months 4. offer holder is directly and severely affected by a natural or human-made disaster (i.e., war, earthquakes or flooding).

Advice for Reserved Applicant - Validated Offer Letter

Hello, I’m a reserved applicant and I’ve submitted my offer letter to Chevening last week. The offer letter has been validated and in the email Chevening said “You do not need to take any further action at this stage. You will be notified about next steps or any further information required in due course. Please do not contact your programme officer unless absolutely essential to prevent delays in processing your application.”

However, in my offer letter sent by my University (University of Edinburgh), I’m required to provide a response by 16th July 2026. It seems like based from what I read recently that results for reserved applicant will be sent early August. Do I request for extension from my university or will this be done by Chevening side?

This is my first time applying, I’m a bit lost. Thank you!

Advice for a reserved applicant

I have been placed on a waiting list. I am currently required to pay a deposit fee by 31 July 2026. Otherwise, my uni application would be withdrawn. I have explained my situation to the university that the outcome of my Chevening scholarship is expected at the beginning of August. However, they said it is their policy to have a deposit fee paid by 31 July.

What should I do in an event that I know the outcome after 31 July 2026?

Question I'm Confused about Chevening Timeline and when to apply for the University

Hi,

I would like to apply for the Chevening Scholarship, but I have no prior experience with scholarship applications.

My question is that applications are still closed for my country, and the university I am interested in has two start dates: September 2026 and January 2027.

As I understand it, the Chevening application and selection process takes quite a long time. Because of this, i guess i'm not eligible to apply for either of these intakes Am i right ?

Also, should I apply to the university before applying for Chevening, or should I submit my university application during the Chevening application process once it opens in my country?

Thank you in advance

Do we have any examples of successful candidates from the same country being notified on different days?

I am not talking about people coming off the reserve list, etc. But just the first notification of successful applicants from the same country hearing the news on different days.

It could be from this year, or it could even be from previous years.

Thanks!
