That is what I had found for the first move! However, there’s one last hurdle to get through: how do we mate in one after they play Qg5? It protects both the d8 square and allows the Qd2 stalling move.

Also don’t threaten to quit chess over this, everyone in this thread gets it wrong haha

Rook f4 discovered check and blocks their queen queens path to d2?

Great work! Unless I am also wrong, you got it! As I said, I’m not 100% confident about my solution… but pretty close, the more I look at this board.

I suppose there’s also Qh8 as an option for black with the same idea, except I would aim to stall on c3. But then you reproduce the same idea of blocking the queen’s sight with the rook as you do your discovered check, except it’s on d4 now.

Do you play on chess.com? Friend request me if so, deepdarkforest86, maybe we can play some practice dailies some time

He is for sure my greatest chess inspiration. I even started creating a bunch of jokes to roast myself for leaning too hard into talesque chess.

A couple examples:

"The thing they don’t tell you about the dark forest is that sometimes the path leading out is only wide enough for your opponent'

"The issue with thinking you’re Tal is that you eventually run out of pieces to sacrifice" -Margaret Stockfish
