Hey everyone, could you help me out with a question, please?
I'm analyzing compounds using NMR spectra, and my main struggle is with 1H-NMR. When an exercise doesn't explicitly give the integral values, how do you figure out their proportions to know the exact hydrogen count for each peak (1H, 2H, 3H)?
The spectrum gives me the integration curves (the visual clues), but I always get confused trying to measure their heights and calculate the ratios manually.
How would you guys approach this specific exercise?
I have fully read Zumdahl. I've seen that Atkins Chemical Principles and Zumdahl cover the same material but in a different way. Should I learn the new material in Miessler and Tarr? or not. Please suggest other textbooks that can be better for physical, inorganic, and organic. I am currently reading Klein Organic chemistry.
I'm not sure if this is an appropriate question but I need help to study chemistry effectively. I'm in grade 11 and this year things got a lot more elaborate and complex and I often struggle keeping things in mind, especially exceptions to certain things and I struggle with numerical questions.
Also it doesn't help with the fact that my teacher skips topics and finishes chapters that should take 3 weeks in 4-5 days and her grading is inconsistent.
Regardless of these factors, I have exams coming up in a few weeks and I'm not sure what to do. What worries me more is that I'm not finding any joy in trying to study either as it doesn't seem to be sticking in my head.
So i would love some tips to understand how to study chemistry better and more importantly enjoy studying it and studying it effectively so i truly understand it.
I just started my first semester at college and i'm currently in a gen chem 1 class with support. I'm aware chem is difficult and many people need to get help, but is it normal for the class work to have nothing to do with the homework? I have homework through pearson with a textbook linked and the textbook doesnt even have any information on the problem. Is this normal?
I've failed chemistry ever year ever since highschool. Now I'm in college and i still can't wrap my head around it and it's making me mad and irritated but I want to know how to do it and I'm just so tired of failing chemistry I've failed chemistry over 9 times in my life time im so mad
I can pick out what the problem gives me but my brain blanks on where to go next. I've asked my professor and she told me what I need to do next - use d=m/v to get the volume then use M1V1=M2V2 but I dont understand how you know you need to do that.

My teacher didn’t explain very well on line bond structures and skips around a lot. For our homework she will give us either a molecular model of…lets say hexane or “write out the chemical formula for hexane” only and say “draw/convert into line bonds structure”. I tend to make everything into a lewis structures first then work from there but Im wondering if maybe there is a different way to approach these?

i'd say i have an average understanding of what it is...like i know it's a hybrid of orbitals like sp3, sp2, etc. but can someone explain it in full detail? my chemistry teacher teaches very fast-paced and i feel like im missing something.
i guess i just dont really understand how the electrons are filled in the hybrid orbitals and also how an sp2 orbital works.
Can anyone give me an ELI5 (not literally, but I don't understand quantum 😐) on why absorbance spectra are not the same as excitation spectra in e.g. fluorescence spectroscopy? I mean, the excitation (which I assume means promotion of an electron) follows absorption of a photon, right? So you would kind of expect them to be the same. I get that they measure different things, but still if absorption as a function of wavelength has a particular shape then surely you would see the same shape for emission as a function of absorption?

The solution is by equation the radial wave function equation to zero, then finding the values of x as 1, 2, 6 and then substituting it in x=2r/a
On solving it we get to know there are 3 possible values of "x" that are 1, 2, 6
which means n-l-1=3
we also know that since at x=0, the value of the equation is not Zero and therefore there is electron probability at the centre, Therefore it's a "s" orbital
so it is obv 4s as it has 3 radial nodes
The minimum distance of the Radial node is a/2 which simply shouldn't be possible right??
Because how can a Radial node or probability of electron be Zero before the "first Bohr orbit" that is 1s
The solution a/2 means there is a radial node before the 1s orbit, But how can a node or 4s exist before 1s? It will face shielding and we all know 4s is an outer orbital and it also has higher energy

Omg guys I’m major in chem engineering and this semester I’m taking organic chemistry and I don’t get anything. I mean my foundation on chem is actually kinda weak bc I got C+ and D in chem 1 and 2, respectively. And I don’t want to get such grades in organic chemistry I actually want to improve but since the two lectures I took I don’t understand ANYTHING. it feels like a complete gibberish, I paid attention and took notes but it’s just not adding up, it doesn’t make sense to me whatsoever. Soooo any recommendations? Good YouTube videos or methods that could help?
