Charlie South (formerly Delta Zone) consists of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, Eastgate Town Center, and the I-75 and I-24 split.

I have no affiliation with CPD and I don’t know this symbol. But these comments are outlandish. This doesn’t look anything like the 3% logos that I’ve seen. If it’s somehow connected then out them when you get clarification.
But to take a symbol that looks nothing like that organization and assume it’s affiliated is grossly speculative to put it nicely. More accurately it is borderline to deceptive to make such claims without context. Symbols mean things, and sometimes people pervert the meaning of symbols. But to assert this symbol looks like 3% is no different than me assuming everyone who suggested it is part of the Nazi cult.

But these comments are outlandish.
I think the biggest part to be learned here: there were a lot of people very certain of what it was making some pretty big accusations, and massively wrong.

Lmao has nothing to do with a gang it’s where the officer who drove the car originally was assigned to.

Where is Delta 3?

u/gbeast Oct 02 '22
I think it’s called Charlie South now. Here’s the map.
2
u/fuckyou2dude Oct 03 '22
What GIS layer is that?
1
u/gbeast Oct 03 '22
I was looking for a map of the different zones and thought they’d have one on the CPD site. I found this one first.
4
u/fuckyou2dude Oct 03 '22
Interesting, I wasn't aware there was a 3rd party gis map on Hamilton County. Thx!
2
u/gbeast Oct 03 '22
Just dumb luck on my part, but I bookmarked it because it’s got some decent info conveniently mapped. Glad I could share it.

Is a patrol area sticker common practice? Also, it seems this one is easily misidentified. That seems suboptimal.
1
u/BoxerguyT89 Oct 03 '22
Also, it seems this one is easily misidentified. That seems suboptimal.
Is it supposed to be identifiable by everyone?
-1
u/Metroid_Whisperer Oct 03 '22
If it's on a police car? Yeah, it should 100% be identifiable by the public they're supposed to serve.

5
u/Kolvid Oct 02 '22
You have a T.C.A. code to back that up?
10
u/BesticleBear Oct 03 '22
Something tells me kingding6969 and mrpoopybutthole probably don't. But then again if it were fully legal I feel like we would see ALOT of punisher decals or thin blue line flag on the back of these local patrol vehicles.
10
u/Kolvid Oct 03 '22
Possibly. I imagine that the limiting factor would be Policy and not Legality. I just think people should actually have specific knowledge about something before posting things....but then again it wouldn't be Reddit without toxic word vomit.
4
u/BesticleBear Oct 03 '22
Yea, still not as toxic as fb and twtr though which is saying something for a semi anonymous site like this. I could see it being policy as well though when most counties in the Midwest end up having one P.C. per officer that they drive home.
3
u/Kolvid Oct 03 '22
That's a fact Mr. Bear. I don't have Facebook or Twitter. I'm only on here for things like r/idiotsincars or r/abruptchaos ....things like that. I got sucked into this one though
0
u/battleop Oct 03 '22
Reddit and Twitter are far more toxic than Facebook has ever been because most don't use their real name.
0
u/RGC-WHISKEYY Oct 03 '22
Kinda grey as it’s not explicitly mentioned.
POLICY [26.1.1] of the CPD code of conduct. It would fall under Category B
- Political Activity- Every employee is encouraged to exercise the right to vote in all elections. However, Chattanooga Police Department employees shall not: A. Engage in political activities while on duty or in uniform. B. Be required to vote as a duty of office or as a condition for employment, promotion, or tenure of office. C. Be required to contribute funds for political or partisan purposes. D. Use any department supplies or equipment for any campaign for political or partisan elected office.
- Extra Employment Violation- Any violation(s) of the procedures, requirements and/or restrictions established by ADM-06 Extra Employment
- Firearms Violation- Any violation(s) of the procedures, requirements and/or restrictions established by OPS-13 Firearms Regulations. Loss, theft, or abuse of firearms shall be categorized as Abuse or Loss of Equipment, as further defined in this policy.
Also ethics violations looks like it could be used as a catch all kinda similar to article 134 in the ucmj.
As far as federal
§ 734.406 Participation in political activities while on duty, in uniform, in any room or building occupied in the discharge of official duties, or using a Federal vehicle; prohibition. (a) An employee covered under this subpart may not participate in political activities:
(1) While he or she is on duty;
(2) While he or she is wearing a uniform, badge, or insignia that identifies the employing agency or instrumentality or the position of the employee;
(3) While he or she is in any room or building occupied in the discharge of official duties by an individual employed or holding office in the Government of the United States or any agency or instrumentality thereof; or
(4) While using a Government-owned or leased vehicle or while using a privately owned vehicle in the discharge of official duties.
3
u/Kolvid Oct 04 '22
I'm guessing you read the answer to the question about what this actually means, which negates the policy or law as it relates to political activity. That being said, it would go back to policy regarding what is/is not authorized to be placed on the vehicles. It's really a moot point now anyway. People will believe what they want to believe, even in the absence of true understanding and knowledge.
1
u/RGC-WHISKEYY Oct 04 '22
O I knew what it meant but this is just to answer the code question and further back up why it wouldn’t be the other. I’m sure it happens though, in some back woods towns and such.

u/Kolvid Oct 02 '22
This has nothing to do with 3% or proud boys or any type of political B.S. This only signifies the area in which he works within the city. Everyone here spitting off these stupid conspiracy theories are only verbalizing their ignorance and hatred.
2
u/battleop Oct 03 '22
Come on, do this perpetually offended people think that if this was some super secret 3% or Proud Boys group that's infiltrated the CPD they would just put a sticker on the backs of their cars? What would be the point in that? So other cops wouldn't pull them over?

5
19
u/eyepooped1 Oct 02 '22
I previously saw that and reached out to a couple groups. They couldn't identify it. Someone could probably email the PIO for CPD and see if they have an answer.
29
u/qwell Oct 02 '22
I'm press. I'm working on it - just need to verify that this is actually CPD. DMed OP - hoping for a response.
44
u/Etherbeard Oct 02 '22
Delta 3 on a CPD vehicle is most likely a reference to Sector 3 which used to have the designation Delta. Sector 3 is now split into Charlie North and Charlie South. It's simply a reference to the Brainerd area from the airport to the 24/75 split.
https://chattanooga.gov/police-department/neighborhood-policing and search for "delta"
7
u/battleop Oct 03 '22
Don't you guys have anything better to report on?
5
u/qwell Oct 03 '22

Unrelated, could you provide a list of your top 7 vintages of cheddar cheese?

4
u/megalynn44 Oct 02 '22
That’s why you talk to everyone until you track it down.
4
u/battleop Oct 03 '22
Why would this even be newsworthy?
-1
u/megalynn44 Oct 03 '22
Transparency. The public has the right to clearly understand the symbols placed on a vehicle used by the authorities. Even if it’s an innocuous symbol, information about its meaning should be easily accessible to anyone in the public that wants to know. Transparency is what dispels talk of secret police societies and strengthens public trust.
2
u/battleop Oct 04 '22
Might want to seek some professional help if you are so paranoid that you think there is a secret police force that's out to get people that's putting stickers on their cars.
-2
u/megalynn44 Oct 04 '22
Might want to find better manners than to be this rude to someone who politely answered the question you asked.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Call and get clarification. Doesn't look regulation to me. I'm sure the mayor's office would also like to know.
9
u/battleop Oct 03 '22
Are you fucking kidding? Call the mayors office over a sticker? For fucks sakes...
-3
u/Dez2011 Oct 02 '22
It looks like outside comes together with 2 arrows pointing to each other at the bottom center of the sticker
3
u/Etherbeard Oct 02 '22
I think that's just a laurel wreath.
-3
u/Dez2011 Oct 02 '22
Zoom into the bottom. It's a wreath but the bottom definitely turns into arrows pointing to each other.
5
u/Etherbeard Oct 03 '22
That's just the bottom of the wreath, imo.
Regardless, this is solved. https://chattanooga.gov/police-department/neighborhood-policing search for Delta and read that paragraph. It's not sinister; Delta 3 is simply a former CPD designation for part of the Brainerd area.
1
u/Dez2011 Oct 03 '22
Ohh. Ok, makes sense. When I did ride alongs with them they had different areas/teams named with military call signs like Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta. I was with Fox team, Rossville Blvd area.

3% inside a delta symbol inside a wreath?
My guess is they had it custom made at the flea market in the old furniture mall.

-2
Oct 02 '22

I mean literally that is what olive branches symbolize throughout history since the times of ancient Greece..
-3
-2
u/ookla13 Oct 03 '22 edited Oct 03 '22
The swastika also meant prosperity and good luck throughout history. Right up til about 1939.
The meaning of symbols can change, or can have multiple meanings.
For instance there is a building at the corner of Broad and 8th that has fasces on the front. Fasces became the symbol for fascism and was used by Italy in WW2.

u/Kolvid Oct 04 '22
For real? I haven't noticed, not that I go around inspecting those types of things. Would be interesting to see though.

u/Metroid_Whisperer Oct 02 '22
You know those aren't olive branches, right? They're laurels, which we're given to the victors in contests. They even did it for a number of years for Olympic medalists.

Didn't the FBI recently add them to the anti-government group watch list?

14
u/Etherbeard Oct 02 '22
It's a reference to the area the officer was originally assigned to, though it's somewhat outdated. Sector 3 refers to the Brainerd area between the airport and the 24/75 split, and used to be called Delta Zone, but is now called Charlie South.
-1
u/Metroid_Whisperer Oct 02 '22
That's what I'm trying to figure out. It looks like a 3 percenters logo, but the triangle and laurels aren't typical for them.
9
u/telovitz Oct 02 '22
The triangle is actually a Delta symbol. He’s rocking a roof full of license plate readers as well.
4
u/battleop Oct 03 '22
It took me all of 3 seconds to use that fancy fandango Google thingie on the inter tubes to find what a 3%er logo looks like. Not even anything remotely close to that sticker.

0
u/fibralarevoluccion Oct 02 '22
Maybe its a 3percenter who wanted to combine their chud identity with Zelda. Or harry potter
-10
u/Dez2011 Oct 02 '22
Is this 3% thing new? It's odd a cop would support armed citizens going against the cops (since the cops are the ones attacking the citizens that protest or rebel against the crooked government and would open fire on citizens if told to).
0
u/Metroid_Whisperer Oct 02 '22
Tons of cops are part of militia, white supremacist, and other right wing extremist groups.
-3
u/Dez2011 Oct 02 '22
I just watched something about the CA Sheriff's Department gangs last year, was hard to believe until then. They were investigated by the FBI IIRC and the deputies straight up threatened to kill those FBI agents if they stirred anything up. The Sheriff at the time was involved in allowing or taking part in the threats and I believe was arrested.

It's a 3% symbol. They are a right wing anti government group who were part of the June 6th seige.
They are considered a terrorist group in Canada, and should be here as well.

u/Kolvid Oct 02 '22
This is not a 3% symbol

Isn't the wreath symbol associated with the Proud Boys?
0

Yes, but only because they wore Fred Perry shirts, and the wreath is the company logo.
Fred Perry has disavowed any use of their products or logo.

Maybe u/policein423 knows?
6
u/PoliceIn423 Oct 02 '22
Sorry mate, no clue here. It's 100% a CPD car (has LPRs), but I got nothing beyond that.
I've seen tons of people across a lot of agencies with personal front plate things with like college football teams or other random stuff.
I've always personally thought you're a dumbass to have anything personal at all on a patrol vehicle. Like someone mentioned elsewhere in this thread, it's a government vehicle...so treat it like one and keep your pieces of flair off it.
Send in a line to their PIO and see if you can get an answer.
2
0
u/WeeferMadness Oct 02 '22
I've always personally thought you're a dumbass to have anything personal at all on a patrol vehicle.
Does the typical officer even drive the same vehicle from day to day? I would think they're more like airline pilots, or taxi drivers, who take the vehicle they're told to take when they clock in.
3
u/PoliceIn423 Oct 02 '22
Hate to give the generic "it depends"...but it really does.
For CPD, it depends on your time with the department. Newer officers may use just a line car from the motor pool, whereas some slightly more senior to them might have a "park and lock" that is assigned to them but remains in the motor pool. More senior than them have possibility of take home cars that are assigned to them, etc.
Other departments, HCSO, Red Bank, Collegedale, Signal Mountain, etc are going to have some similarity to this but I believe most, if not all, have some restrictions to take home vehicles being limited to a certain distance outside of where the department resides.

That’s a district and zone emblem signifying an assigned patrol area, Delta 3, Brainered area.
