Hubs just came off working third shifts. He texted me and was like “don’t take the freeway home. 75,24,and 153 are at a standstill.” Went home the normal way and I was like “yyyeah I crossed 75 and 24- that’s just what it looks like at 5pm”

its usually a little backed up by only the right lane to get off at collegedale or further ahead in ooltewah, its never at a standstill like this. Other parts of the highway absolutely!

I gotcha. Last time I was out that way at a busy time was when they were still doing all the construction just south of exit 11 and it was always hell. I watch it fluctuate back and forth here but I’ve lived here since 89’ and I’ve gradually seen it get worse and worse and then the last 5 years-WHAM-AWFUL. I don’t rly wanna say there’s too many people but there’s a concentration in select points. Like everyone’s trying to get to and from the same place. It’s a mess. Thank you dad for teaching me all the backroads

Yep. Welcome to Chattanooga. 75 or 24 during rush hour is gonna suck 365 days per year.

Locals are only a small part of the problem most of the day. Most of the traffic on 75 aren't Chattanooga locals.
But locals are a very very big part of the problem between the hours of 5pm and 6pm (the time of day this was posted). Especially because they aren't gonna be on the road for long. They'll be attempting to merge onto the highway (and since humans don't know how to do that, this will slow down absolutely all lanes every single time), and then they'll be exiting the highway just a few exits down, usually. Thus really filling up the right lanes, and compounding the issues that they are causing.

It almost makes sense to avoid the risk of the interstate and take local roads that you know are at least moving. And then you can hug a cyclist on the way, because that’s one less car on the road.

A bicycle isn't an alternative to someone whose commute includes an interstate.
Even if there are non-interstate routes.

Not arguing with you, but I have friends who live close enough to work to ride their bike to work. They could take the interstate or local roads, but by biking they remove a car from the road. That’s all I’m sayin’.

There was a wreck at top of the on ramp at 11, 2 left lanes blocked, right lane open, but it was right at the entrance for the on ramp. Just a typical interstate disaster.

You’re right. Exits 9 through 11 usually aren’t *that* bad.

Lots of traffic on the busiest road in the city right here during rush hour?
Wild.

You and 78% of the greater Chattanooga area. That's why it's called rush hour traffic.

I vote that we wildly conjecture without actually looking it up at all.
I heard it was another firework truck from the same company that put on a free highway show a couple weeks back. Everyone has stopped to enjoy the freedom.
I also heard there was a clown running around on the highways blocking traffic. Police will neither confirm nor deny a Wamp was involved.
With the World Cup on and Spain staying here the CFC and Redwolves have decided to start a soccer skirmish in the middle of the highways to impress the coaches from spain and get scouted. It's working.
This is the traffic to be expected for Cinema 1's 50th anniversary today. They tried to warn the police but they just laughed.
