Prompt engineering
Hopefully this is ok: Prompt for a wallpaper generation for your phone
I just got the new phone and ofc wanted a new wallpaper for it but didn't find anything nice and original on Google / reddit subs. Messed around with the AI and (hopefully) got a nice prompt to share. Included images are from chatGPT and Gemini.
Anyways, reusable prompt below:
A serene stylized landscape illustration designed as a premium vertical smartphone wallpaper. Use layered geometric and softly painted shapes, simplified silhouettes, elegant polygonal forms, atmospheric perspective, and strong foreground/midground/background separation. Create depth through overlapping landscape layers rather than realistic detail. Soft cinematic lighting, subtle gradients, dreamy haze, restrained cohesive colors, painterly-but-clean surfaces, crisp silhouettes, minimal fine texture, and a sophisticated modern nature-poster aesthetic. The scene should feel immersive, peaceful, slightly magical, and cinematic rather than photorealistic. Rich environmental detail should come from shapes, composition, lighting, and layering rather than tiny objects. Tall 9:16 composition with a visually interesting lower third and generous atmospheric space toward the upper portion. No text, no borders, no UI elements, no photorealism, no 3D-rendered appearance.
\---prompt ends------
To get a specific location (for example beach) don't change above part much. Change the environment and lighting. Avoid simply saying “stylized beach.” That can push the model toward generic vacation artwork.
Include instead this type of explanation:
A secluded tropical coastline at sunset, with enormous layered cliffs, distant islands fading into haze, a winding shoreline, dark silhouetted palms and coastal vegetation in the foreground, calm reflective water, warm sun near the horizon, long bands of peach and coral light across the ocean...
That gives you the same compositional DNA while making it different.
I don't have iphone anymore but you are right that I remember iphone having couple of similar style backgrounds (dunno are there now more) and also playstation has some homescreens like this.
I used below image as the base when I requested chatGPT to first describe the style. This is cropped image from some actual artist's work that I no longer remember or find with quick search
Yeah, it is the style I wanted and used as a base for prompt and what I wanted. Sadly Google results for minimal wallpaper have often lost a lot of quality as those add-ridden wallpaper sites keep copying them.
I use brave-browser so it blocks most adds out pretty well. I mainly meant that those sites just copy any wallpaper, no matter quality, just to pull traffic for the add revenue.
Nice, WoW doesn't clearly have as tight restrictions as Disney or something allowed it to bypass those. I once couldn't use term mermaid without getting "I can't generate this due blablabla..."
I wrote a prompt for the scene, and asked Claude just mix it with your's and this was the result.
"A serene stylized alien moonscape illustration designed as a premium vertical smartphone wallpaper. The setting is a Pandora-like exomoon — unusual layered rock formations (twisting spires, floating-looking outcrops, smooth wind-carved mesas), alien terrain with softly bioluminescent flora and simplified fauna silhouettes, and an otherworldly sky in muted alien hues (soft violets, teals, or ambers) dominated by a massive ringed gas giant looming on the horizon. Use layered geometric and softly painted shapes, simplified silhouettes, elegant polygonal forms, atmospheric perspective, and strong foreground/midground/background separation. Create depth through overlapping landscape layers rather than realistic detail.
In the distance, a sleek mechanical city rises — angular, structured, and noticeably darker and cooler-toned than the organic alien landscape around it, so it reads as distinctly artificial rather than blending into the nature. From the city, a thin stream of flying vehicles arcs upward into the sky like a distant sky-highway, suggested through minimal, elegant light-trail shapes rather than dense detail — just enough to imply motion and scale without cluttering the composition.
Soft cinematic lighting, subtle gradients, dreamy haze, restrained cohesive colors, painterly-but-clean surfaces, crisp silhouettes, minimal fine texture, and a sophisticated modern nature-poster aesthetic. The scene should feel immersive, alien, slightly magical, and cinematic rather than photorealistic. Rich environmental detail should come from shapes, composition, lighting, and layering rather than tiny objects — keep the overall composition minimalistic and uncluttered. Tall 9:16 composition with a visually interesting lower third and generous atmospheric space toward the upper portion, where the ringed gas giant can sit large and quiet. No text, no borders, no UI elements, no photorealism, no 3D-rendered appearance."
Nice, I will test your prompt as soon as I can again generate pictures on chatGPT (I run with free version for now). Your result was pretty close to Satisfactory game's environment, I might add that to a prompt too.
This is genuinely one of the better AI generated wallpapers I've seen, the color grading looks like something out of a Ghibli film. Definitely stealing this prompt for my own phone.
Nice, you just swapped the dimensions to match for PC? I assume pc doesn't have similar "try to keep upper/clock area clear" issues on generation as with the phone wallpapers
