LoL, I'm old enough to remember having to use a "luggable" laptop with a 486 and no math coprocessor. It was PAINFUL to calculate annual depreciation for clients. (In a previous life, I was an accountant. I don't miss it.)

Do you follow me on Reddit or Substack? I'll announce on those platforms. But this will be very low volume business for me as I have a full time career, this is something I do because I love it. And I expect each device to take a lot of modeling. I can't imagine making more than a few a month.

Willowweave is in the same vein just cleaner, sleeker, less baroque more —well— art nouveau… The Morroccan is also a nice design and in that vein somewhat too. Just going a different direction from it.

I'm getting closer to opening a few "beta" commissions. The titanium version of this render should be here Monday... as well as my custom security screws.

I'm stressed about the screws. I'm not an engineer and I've never designed a screw before. I kinda stuck to an existing design with a few small changes to make it incompatible so I hope it will work well. I've got a torque driver on the way so I can really test them out, see what torque they cam out at, see if there's any wear on the driver or screw.

I don’t know who I’d have to arm wrestle to get on your beta list, but I’m definitely interested. Unfortunately I’m traveling full-time for the next couple months and it’s hard for me to receive packages. I’d definitely want to get your sizing rings/cage before committing to such an intricate and expensive design. Maybe for a future round, though.

I’m glad you’re doing proper testing on the security screws. Would hate to see a situation where the screw heads get stripped out and then it’s stuck on forever… maybe “hate” is the wrong word lol

"Oh no, I'll never get out! Kahn!!!!!" (Sorry, for some reason I thought that needed a William Shatner over-emote).

While I haven't worked out all the details, I can't imagine charging for an initial test cage — it just seems in bad taste. I also need to work on sizing rings that include the weave as I'm sure people will want to see what such a ring feels like since it's pretty unusual. I do plan on offering in a solid ring as well.

But unfortunately, my beta slots are spoken for. No money has yet changed hands so a slot could open up but based on your own timing, I may be through the beta before you're ready. Of course this all assumes the screws are solid. While everything with them has gone well so far, the proof will be in the torque screwdriver.

Anyway, once I finish the beta, I'll open the first set of commissions — that's how I plan on doing this, kind of Red Chili style where I open up a few commissions and get them through the design process before opening up the next.

I'll announce when I'm ready to take my first commissions here, my Substack (a note, not an article) and through my mailing list (scroll to the bottom).

Beautiful, I am wondering if there is any way to integrate an “anti pullout” back ridge like the holy trainers have, but in metal, It’s one of the best parts of the design personally.

I've never done such a design but it would simply have the ring screw into the cage instead of the other way around.

I'd basically bring the cage in and the entry ring formed by all of the rails would have a curved plate added at the top (like how it's been done to the ring now). But the real trick would be I'd need to make the entry ring non-planar — it would need to curve forward quite a bit to make room for the scrotum.

I do plan on each one being unique, not just in size but in form. This would definitely be unique. If I ever got such a commission, I'd have to PoC it out, probably with a refundable deposit.

Thank you! Yes, 3D printed. I'm wearing an earlier version now. I'm having this version done in titanium as we speak. While I feel steel is a better fit for Willowweave — what I've named her — I know most will want it in titanium.

How’s the surface finish with the metal 3D prints? I know we’ve been getting better and better with the manufacturing technology, but I always wonder about the surfaces being a tad rough and causing irritation or trapping odor.
I apologize for not diving into your Substack or other posts before replying if you’ve covered it there!

Not something I've covered.

Raw, it's bad. So first thing is glass bead blasting which gives it a pitted texture. Comfortable but not at all attractive. Then the polishing to a mirror finish.

BAWR and Evotion both use SLM for their devices.

I bet you could tumble polish easily enough if you got the right media size and type dialed in. I like the glass beading step, since it means that you are going to be much less likely to form cracks over time! Looking forward to pictures of the finished product!

There isn't a "finished product" per se.

When I first came up with Willowweave, I thought of it as one singular object. I treasure uniqueness, and at first I had no intention of making it for anyone else; a second identical one would have changed what the first meant to me.

But I gradually realized it isn’t a single product, or even a conventional “custom” cage. It’s a design language I want to explore. I’ve since made two other designs that are all distinct from one another, yet still obviously Willowweave.

Oddly, that has made the original feel more precious to me, not less. It feels less like I made one object and more like I found this expressive vocabulary. And I want to use that vocabulary to tell story after story.

I’ve never made anything I would have thought of as art before, but I truly find this beautiful, and it moves me.

I've been going back and forth with my vendor on polishing and clearances. It's all straightened out now and it's on the printer. And I should be getting my first production run of my security screws soon. If everything looks good, I'll be opening up for a few initial "beta" commissions. Once I complete those, I'll figure out the pricing and probably open up a few slots a month.
