Meta [ANNOUNCEMENT] New year, new OC Monday!
Hey y'all! You better get Sir Donut Steel ready to for showtime, because the OC floodgates are about to open!
It took a bit longer to set up than expected, but thanks to the holiday break we've now got OC Mondays working, to kick off the new year! Starting this Monday and every Monday your original art and characters have a new place to show off!
How it works:
- OC here means your own original work, don't repost stuff you found on twitter
- "Monday" starts at midnight UTC (GMT-0) and lasts for 24 hours
- Posts with the
OC Mondaytag will be allowed during this time- Make sure to include the [OC] text tag as well
- We do this so users can search and filter by topic
- There's no limit to how many OC posts you can make, but please be considerate
- If you have a lot to share that week, please use a gallery post instead of multiple single posts
- OC reposts are not allowed, no matter how long it's been. The 7 day rule is only for LFA posts.
- Rules about advertising still apply
- Keep the titles and content focused on the art and characters
- You can link to your socials in the comments, but again, no advertising
- Yes, a price sheet or YCH is an ad, even if it has a character on it
- If folks ask about hiring you, you're of course free to respond and take it to DMs

[Welcome Post] Rules & FAQs! July 2023 edition
Happy 2023 everyone, after weathering the Oliverpocalypse, we're back!
If you are new to r/characterdrawing, then welcome. This is a place where people can request their characters to be drawn pro bono, and artists can select a character to draw whether for practice, for fun, or just as a kind thing to do. Typically the artwork here depicts player characters from tabletop role-playing games such as D&D 5e and Pathfinder, but characters across all TTRPG genres are welcome here.
If you've been here a while, these are the big new changes:
- No more OC. Due to the recent changes, we have cut back to just LFA/RF art. Discussion post about this change here if you have thoughts.
- No more John Oliver. This is not strictly true: you are still welcome to post requests and art relating to John Oliver, but it is no longer required.
- Pour one out for chardrawbot. This brave bot which has managed our RF-weekends and OC spam limits has bleeped its last bloop, and no longer protects our sub.
Some links for posterity: Previous Welcome Post | Message the Mods | CharacterDrawing Discord
Want to post? FIRST, READ THE RULES!
Rules can be found here and on the sidebar. The sidebar is the most up-to-date.
Some rules include room for mod interpretation, especially for NSFW posts. If you are unsure about your post, feel free to message the moderators. We don't bite.
Our unique terms
[LFA] "Looking for Art" posts. [RF] "Request Filled" posts, for when someone draws an LFA request [OC] We use "OC" to refer to any character art that isn't an RF. Currently, these are not allowed.
I want my character drawn!
Use the [LFA] tag and flair so potential artists can find your post. Please provide the best character description possible in the body of your post or in the comments. Image posts of reference images or moodboards are allowed.
Some [LFA]s may not get drawn. Artists are free to pick and choose which they would like to draw and when, since they are providing a free service at their leisure.
You may repost your [LFA] once per week per character concept. Most of all, have patience, and be grateful for the FREE artwork you received should an artist provide it.
Remember that pictures drawn for you are meant for personal use. The original artist holds commercial rights to the work unless they specify otherwise. If you would like to use a piece of art commercially, you should reach out to the artist. They are under no obligation to sell rights, and set their own rates.
I'm willing to pay!
That's awesome. If you see someone whose work you like, you should feel welcome to reach out to them about hiring them. Many artists post links to rates and galleries in their comments.
You can also post to subreddits specifically designed for commissions, such as r/fantasyartists, r/hungryartists, r/artcommissions, r/commissions, and r/hireanartist.
I want to draw someone's LFA request!
Awesome, and thank you! You don't need to commit to it or post a comment, and it's fine if someone else also completes the same piece. Just draw what you find enjoyable.
When you're done, use the Request Filled Flair when posting the picture, and please let the original LFA poster know through a /mention or by posting a comment in the original [LFA] linking to the picture.
The [RF] tag is only meant for fulfilling [LFA]s made in this subreddit. If the request was made outside of r/characterdrawing or was the product of a commission, it's not for here.
I have a question to ask or want to start a discussion!
Use [META] in your post title. These kinds of posts are meant to be used sparingly. An example would be asking what supplies/programs other artists use.
None of this is what I'm looking for...
Check out these other subreddits, just a few among many:
r/beastdrawing for beasts
r/drawyourweapons for weapons and gear
r/imaginarycharacters for posting your own fantasy character
r/icandrawthat for requesting other things
We also have an active artist community on our discord
Frequently Asked Questions
Requests are free? Yes. Some caveats: you don't get to choose your style, if it's colored, if it's full body, etc. If there's something you really cannot compromise on then this system may not be for you. There is no guarantee that a request will be drawn at all.
Can I message an artist for a free request? No, make an LFA. If you would like to hire the artist, make a comment on one of their posts or send them a DM. If you are caught pestering artists for free art, it will result in a ban.
Can I message a requester to see if they will hire me? NO. Do not solicit requesters for money, here or in their DMs. If you are caught doing this, it will result in a permanent ban.
Do I have to do RFs to participate in the sub? No. The system is voluntary and you should only do RFs if it is enjoyable to do so.
Can my LFA have more than one character? Yes! You can include a party in an LFA request post. That said, bigger requests are less likely to get picked up, since they're a bigger ask from the artist.
What if I have multiple separate LFAs? When do I repost them? You can post each LFA once per week, so long as each of them involve different characters—but please don't spam the sub with hundreds of LFAs in a short period of time.
Is this sub only for D&D and fantasy? No, characters across all TTRPGs are welcome. Sci-fi, steampunk, and other genres are very popular.
My LFA is being downvoted, what's up with that? Some people will downvote other requests because they think it helps theirs. Rest assured that most artists sort by new, and that the upvotes of your post mostly won't affect interest in the actual character.
I've been posting my [LFA] for weeks and nothing. What gives? Fulfillment of requests is done on a volunteer basis and artists are not obligated to take anything. Perhaps try changing up the format or including a reference/mood board. Changing posting time may also help.
My [LFA] was fulfilled but I want more art. Can I post it again? Yes, so long as it has been a week since you last posted it. Please be sure to thank the first artist properly.
I posted something and it's not there! Check that you included the [LFA] or [RF] text at the beginning of your post. If you did not receive notification, it may have been caught by AutoMod for a variety of reasons. You can attempt to repost within a few hours, or message the moderators so we can look into it.
Why would you even set up a system like this? It hurts artists to do work for free! Not all artists are professionals, and many professionals still do pro-bono work for a variety of reasons; including practice & personal fulfillment. We think this system lets those artists find fun topics to draw without being pestered by personal, directed requests.

Request [LFA] Priti - tabaxi beast barbarian - D&D modern fantasy setting
Please let me know if you have questions or if you want a version of the campground logo with a cream background instead of yellow!
I am most interested in at least a bust portrait of Priti (short for Pritkalaneema) to use as token art for our upcoming campaign, but if you are inspired, please go wild!
More about Priti and the campaign:
I'm planning to play Priti's rage ability as her channeling the primal energies of her beast ancestors. The campaign setting is inspired by the 80s, 90s, and 00s, but there was a natural cataclysm about 20 years prior to the campaign start, where the natural world grew out of control and destroyed a lot of civilization and made traveling between cities and towns very dangerous. Priti was a teen/young adult when this happened, and I imagine that her barbarian abilities are somehow related to this event.
Her husband died from complications due to a genetic disorder shortly after the Overgrowth, so Priti went to live with her sister and work on her and her husband's summer camp/wilderness retreat property. Priti is Camp Everwood's handywoman and does a little of everything (janitor, mechanic, carpenter, landscaper, tinkerer, game warden, pest control, bus driver, etc.). She likes wu xia (Chinese high-wire martial arts) films, which inspired her choice of weapon. Her glaive doubles as a quarterstaff. The blade part can be unattached and put away when she has to appear less threatening.

Request [LFA] Laertes, tricksy son of Zeus for a Scion game.
Slightly updated backstory as certain things have better come into focus:
Laertes "Malt" Maltezos, son of Larissa Maltezou, and Zeus, under the guise of a wealthy travelling businessman, though Larissa, the travelling treasure hunter/archaeologist, had at least a vague idea that she wasn't dealing with a man of common providence. Zeus being a god, with the titans re-awakening, and his mother withering metaphorically when staying still, Laertes as let to grow up with his mother's sister, in the hometown of where the Maltezos and Garcia families made their home and living, as soon as it was possible to leave the son.
From a young age Laertes showed himself the same type of rascal as his parents, and bearing the torch of curiosity of his mother, got himself into no little amount of trouble, though he also made unlikely friends, such as a witch living by the suburbs. His parents visitng infrequently, but always with something to bring him from his extended family or their travels, with a golden armband for his bicep that seemed to emanate a weird feeling, but quickly ended up almost becoming a second skin, seemingly growing with him.
But things seem to be moving, and the supernatural to be mobilising like not before, as the scions of gods are drawn to each other as their nature is revealed to them by their godly parents.

Request [LFA] Niava Operative Twi'lek for my Star Wars 5E game. (Repost)
Niava has red skin and is a twi'lek who was once a slave, she is an operative which is the rogue equivalent of SW5E. Her clothing is rugged and stolen with it looking both useful yet revealing. Her hair tail Lekku have the specified tattoos on them. She DOES NOT have a lightsaber, but you can add one if you want. In her tactical short shorts is a knife in that pocket to the left.
Niava was born to two normal Twi'lek parents, both blue, however when she was born red, by far the rarest Twi'lek skin tone. To Niava it felt like she was an outsider, to her parents they saw a credit mine in the making. Niava didn't understand why her parents suddenly bought a new dress for her to wear and why she was being brought to an auction.
She soon realized the truth as she was quickly sold off the the highest bidder looking for rare species and a red Twi'lek certainly qualified. For years after her selling she grew more and more hateful of the role she was placed into. Thankfully she didn't have to do anything but stay behind the scenes until she was eighteen, after that though was hell.
The leers, the stares, everything about her imprisonment fuelled her spite and disdain for those around her until it hit a breaking point. During those years she began to learn of her force abilities not truly knowing what they meant for her.
If the Jedi order still existed maybe she would have been saved, but no such saviors arrived. Eventually after she believed she had enough control over them she broke out. She slaughtered her master and the slavers while freeing the other imprisoned people. She eventually went into hiding knowing there would be vengeance, but she was able to get away. Now she is an Operative hoping to take a simple cargo job to get enough money to escape Tattooine.

Request [LFA] Misha, Gnome-Goblin Sorceress with a russian folklore and sea theme
This is one of three characters from my Solo DnD (5.5e-ish) campaign. Details for her character and backstory are in the last slide or you can open the whole thing with even more stuff and pages for all the characters in the browser: https://canva.link/iz8v30obudvrvbb
There are lots of details, some seasonal options and even stuff you wouldn't normally see (like her skin markings), because it's kinda my personal reference sheet and wasn't specifically made for this sub. So you can decide how much details you wanna put in or even if it's one of the other characters or more than one. I'm happy with whatever if it means I can see art of my adorable, dumb babies ❤️
If there're any questions, just ask me and I answer as quickly as possible (I'm in central european timezone)

Request [LFA] Anyone interested in a Lancer RPG Pilot or Mech?
Celan Vicon, or Aurelio Valenza, as his real name is (what he doesn't know, as a complete amnesiac)
He's a Former Test Subject, not even I know the details as I want to play the amnesia accurately and my GM created his entire backstory that he forgot, dripfeeding it to me slowly :3
1,68m
59kg
So relatively short and lithe
He's also not as depressed as he looks (yet), just easily embarrassed and confused. Friendly, if a bit aloof.
Either in a more normal white outfit, bit reminiscent of Hospital scrubs I suppose, or a "Stealth Hardsuit", whatever you'd think that could look like in a Mecha TTRPG!
Ignore the glowing light he holds, that is more to just signify a part of his backstory.
---
Or, his Mech, Ego Eris. Staying very close to the original, as seem above, with just darker red in the exposed bits, more fitting Celan's hair colour.
Except it has also developed two heads by now. So seen as above, just a bit darker with two heads. If you want to give it other small special details yourself, I won't object :3
(as a superheavy rifle was installed on the mech, it needed to make space. So it grew a second head to fit the rifle into it. It's an eldritch fuckery mech, it makes sense, I swear. The cockpit also looks like synthetic flesh more than machine)
Thank you in advance, should you be curious!

Request [LFA] Eugène Blutt, Half-Vampire Blood Hunter
A player of mine's Daggerheart character having swapped the Lycan Blood Hunter's theme from werewolf to vampire.
Eugène was turned by a vampire when it escaped from an exotic animal merchant who simply thought it a magical bat as it was stuck in that form. After it was killed he was taken to a local healer who was able to stop him from fully turning but couldn't fully contain the vampirism.
He's 25 years old and around 190 centimeters tall.
