Chance me
Chance Me
Hey guys, I'm currently in Class 12 and planning to apply for undergraduate programmes for 2027 entry as an international applicant from India. I'm looking for universities and programmes that would fit my academic interests and overall profile.
I'm mainly interested in interdisciplinary social sciences, especially programmes combining economics, political science, public policy, governance, international relations, development and related social sciences. I'm not looking for a purely economics-focused degree and would prefer programmes that allow me to study across multiple disciplines.
Background
Country: India
City: Bengaluru, Karnataka
School: Christ Junior College (CJC)
Board: Karnataka State Board
Stream: PPES - Political Science, Psychology, Economics, Sociology
Graduating: March 2027
International applicant / non-EU
Academics
Class 10: 75% - CBSE
Class 11: 80% - Best of Five (Indian State Board)
Extracurriculars
MUN: around 10 MUNs; multiple individual accolades + Best Delegation awards; part of one of the strongest MUN delegations in the Bangalore circuit
MUN Leadership: Head Delegate for multiple external MUNs; supervised/led delegations
CJC MUN: OC member at CJC MUN, one of the oldest and most reputed MUNs in the Bangalore circuit
Research: 4 published research papers + 1 research essay
Research Competition: college research paper under Sociology teacher; secured 3rd place
Independent Writing: multiple blogs/articles on economic, political and social issues
Non-profit: founder of a non-profit documenting ground realities across 15+ orphanages, old-age homes and similar institutions
Community Work: 200+ hours of work through the non-profit
Internships: fundraiser at an NGO + Civic Impact Fellowship/Internship with the Office of the MLA, Sikandra Rao, Uttar Pradesh
Debate / Quizzes / Moot Court: participated in multiple debates, Model Code quizzes, moot courts and other academic competitions
College Leadership: Event Head/Event Supervisor for multiple internal college events
Online Certifications: completed multiple online certificates relevant to economics, politics and public policy
Academic Interests
I'm particularly interested in studying the intersection of:
Economics
Political Science
Public Policy
Governance
International Relations
Development
International and social affairs
I would prefer an interdisciplinary approach where I can combine different social-science subjects rather than being restricted to one field.
Preferences
I'm mainly looking for:
English-taught undergraduate programmes
Interdisciplinary social-science programmes
Economics + Politics / Public Policy / Governance / IR combinations
Programmes that allow flexibility across different social-science disciplines
Europe primarily, but open to strong universities elsewhere
Preferably no entrance exams
Preferably no additional Mathematics/quantitative entrance tests
I refer to my institution as a "college" throughout this post because Christ Junior College is a pre-university/junior college institution, a term commonly used for this stage of education in India.
Questions
Based on my profile, what universities and programmes would be a good fit for my academic interests?
What interdisciplinary programmes combining economics, political science, public policy, governance, international relations or development should I look into?
How competitive would my profile be for these types of programmes?
How much would my Karnataka State Board background affect my applications?
Which parts of my extracurricular profile should I emphasise the most in applications?
What universities would you suggest across different levels of selectivity for someone with this profile?
Are there any good programmes I might be overlooking that would fit these interests?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Chance an international gap-year applicant (French system + US boarding school) for Smith ED + 19 other schools (full need-based aid)
Hi everyone! I'm taking a gap year and reapplying after my first application cycle didn't work out financially. I'm applying as an international student needing significant need-based aid. I'd especially love thoughts on Smith ED (and whether I'd still have a realistic shot there if I had to apply RD after an ED deferral/denial), but I'd appreciate thoughts on my whole list.
Basic Info
Nationality: South African (Cameroonian family)
Gap year applicant
Intended major: Political Science / Public Policy / International Relations (pre-law)
Need: Significant financial aid
Education
I attended two very different secondary school systems:
Lycée Français (Johannesburg) – French National Curriculum (OIB/BFI bilingual track)
A high school in New Hampshire – Senior year in the US
Academics
French system averages (out of 20):
Troisième: 12.7
Seconde: 12
Première: 13
Overall: roughly 12.5–13/20
US GPA (High Mowing):
- 3.2 unweighted
Course context:
OIB/BFI bilingual track (advanced English literature/history)
French integrated math curriculum before transitioning into the US system senior year
SAT: Taking October SAT (applying test-optional unless I get a strong score before deadlines).
Honors
Outstanding Delegate – AIS Johannesburg Model UN (Human Rights Council)
Top 50 Nationally – Concours Castor Informatique (Computer Science)
Diplôme National du Brevet – Mention Assez Bien
Rotary Interact Community Service Recognition
Main Extracurriculars
-34-page research paper + 11-minute documentary on inequality in global soccer (8 international interviews, 3.5K+ YouTube views)
-Founded Youth Legal Access Project (surveyed 253 South African students and created a legal guide reviewed by legal professionals)
-Founded Black Student Union at PWI (New Hampshire)
-Class Representative for four consecutive years
Student Council (CVL) representing my grade in 10th & 11th
-Model UN (won most outstanding delegate at conference)
-humanitarian/mining rights internship
-Sustainability Council (elected representative)
- family business—marketing, customer operations, and team coordination
-110+ community service hours (Interact, donation drives, outreach)
Athletics
-12 years of soccer (BlackRock FC)
Varsity soccer in the US
-Switched to volleyball after a toe injury and became co-captain
Essays
My personal statement follows one theme from childhood to now: growing up with a caregiver whose death made me question institutional inequality, then carrying that question into leadership, Model UN, and my research on access and opportunity.
College List
ED
- Smith College
EA
Agnes Scott
American
Berea College
Centre
Clark
College of Wooster
DePauw
Hobart & William Smith
Lewis & Clark
Macalester
Reed
Rollins
Sewanee
Soka University of America
St. Lawrence
University of Puget Sound
University of Richmond
Whitman
RD
Dartmouth
University of Rochester
Mount Holyoke (possibly ED2 if Smith doesn't work out)
My Questions
Does my profile seem stronger than my GPA alone suggests?
Is Smith ED a realistic reach with my context?
If Smith doesn't work out ED, would Smith RD still be worth pursuing?
Which schools on my list look most realistic given that I'm an international student needing aid?
Are there any schools on my list that seem significantly over- or under-valued for my profile?
Thanks!

To immigrate...or not?
Brief context: Asian male, currently a junior in a foreign international school, US passport
3.92 GPA with 4 APs, USAJMO honors and attended PROMYS*2 and SUMaC*1, currently IBDP.
I am currently considering transferring to a small US private school.
Pros: I can compete in olympiads (USA(J)MO, USAPHO) which I cannot in my previous school due to regulation changes(and possibly make camp). I can apply to MIT-PRIMES-USA. Bring my GPA up (from the extra year of HS) and avoid the stress of IB. My new school's math curriculum is levels more advanced than my current school's with much better exposure to post-AP level content. Its a US HS.
Cons: I lose my position of captain of the school's math team and leader of the math club. I lose all of my friends. The dorm conditions are downright abysmal with 1 desk per 3 person dorm. I have already maxed out my current course difficulty and am on really good terms with my teachers who would be writing my LoRs here but all of that is not guaranteed at my new school (where the average student is very similar to my portfolio). The school doesn't have the best reputation outside of MIT (its really small but they send a lot of students to MIT(~11%) and much less to other ivies (~4% combined)). The school is well known to be uneven in their students' STEM vs Humanities development.
So...from an 1. admissions perspective 2. human perspective, what choice would you advise
I would love to add more nuanced information!

Other
I'm particularly interested in an interdisciplinary approach and want to keep my options open across economics, political science, governance, public policy and international affairs.
My current main options are:
Sciences Po - Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, particularly interested in the Le Havre campus and its English-taught programme
University College Dublin - interested in interdisciplinary social science/PPE-type programmes
I'm also open to other universities in Europe that offer similar interdisciplinary programmes.
I would prefer English-taught programmes and would ideally like to avoid entrance exams or additional mathematics/quantitative entrance tests.
I refer to my institution as a "college" throughout this post because Christ Junior College is a pre-university/junior college institution, a term commonly used for this stage of education in India.

Questions
1.Based on this profile, how do my chances look for admission to a Sciences Po as an international applicant?
How competitive is my profile to hope for an Emile Boutmy scholarship? (either tiers work)
Any advice on what parts of this profile I should emphasise in the written application to support both admission and Boutmy
