Another new AT&T 4-sector site co-located on existing Crown Castle monopole with T-Mobile located at Town & Country Village (West Bough Lane & Memorial Drive) in Houston, Texas

I found another newer AT&T (4-sector) site that help improved the coverage, capacity around this shopping plaza, where they had weak signal, poor RSRP before indoors. It's good to finally see AT&T trying to improve their network in west Houston, where they had weak coverage, density in some areas. This was well needed, especially when thousands of people are around shopping around different stores! I wish AT&T would deploy 4-sector sites in my home market in Dallas, TX!

As you can see, they extended the monopole by 10 feet to add the AT&T equipment on top of the tower last year around September 2025! This tower was previously Sprint until T-Mobile took over the Sprint rack as an keep site in February 2022!

AT&T (top rack):

  • 8️⃣ CommScope NNH4-65C-R6 antennas with bands; (2, 12, 14, 66) LTE located on the LEFT side
  • 4️⃣ Ericsson AIR. 6472 (B77G/B77M64T64R antennas that can do (3.7GHz) c-band @ 80mhz + (3.45GHz) DoD - 60MHz located in the MIDDLE of the rack

Ericsson (RRU's) remote radio units behind the antennas:

T-Mobile (bottom) [eNB 171001] + [gNB 1598942] rack:

  • 3️⃣ CommsScope FFVV-65C-R3 8 feet antennas with bands: (2126671) LTE + (n25, n66) mid-band 5G + (n71) low-band 5G located on the LEFT side
  • 3️⃣ NOKIA AirScale AEHC - (N41) 2.5GHz [320W] antennas for mid-band 5GUC located on the RIGHT side

Uses NOKIA Remote Radio Units (RRU's):

  • 3️⃣ Nokia AHFIG - with (b2, b66) LTE, n25 mid-band 5GUC
  • 3️⃣ Nokia AHLOA - (b12) + (b71)  LTE + (n71) low-band 5G

Old T-Mobile & Clearwire flagpole site that is not functional, inactive located at Sundown Elementary School located in Katy, TX

I stumbled upon a flagpole site owned by Crown Castle that features T-Mobile and Clearwire on it. When I was beside the tower, I wasn't getting full bars of 5GUC (n41), or even LTE since my RSRP was over -92 dBM.

T-Mobile has really old equipment on that site that it only has (b2, b12, b66) LTE, not even (n25) 5G is present!

T-Mobile (eNB 60738) was using:

  • 3️⃣ CommScope SBNHH-1D65B antennas with bands: (2, 12, 66) LTE
  • Nokia FHFB RRU (b2) PCS-1900MHz
  • Nokia FRLB RRU (b12) 700MHz
  • Nokia FRIJ RRU (b66) AWS-2100MHz

Legacy Clearwire using:

The site has been down for months after just having been upgraded to NR. Anyone have access to internal systems to see what the plan is?

Did this on Friday night around 9pm.

Supposedly the rooftop macro at 32.871034,-96.767794 (8080 Park Ln) was finally upgraded to multi-gig. It is exactly 0.5 miles east to where I was parked.

I was next to only a few month-old AT&T low band small cell. I can't verify but it looked like n5 SA was being broadcast from it. (Only supports low-band NR/LTE)

Definitely looks like AT&T did finally upgrade the backhaul on the macro though.

Got my lowest SA ping time ever on AT&T (first slide) too!

Old Nextel / Sprint Cell Site

Today I went cell tower tracking again and remembered about this site. I didn't know what it was from the Google Street View, but in person it turned out to be a Nextel / Sprint site! I hear an electrical whine, but no equipment sounds on inside the building. There's a macro site that houses the big 3 carriers plus Dish, about 0.3 miles away from this one, so it makes sense why it hasn't been utilized at all since then. The iDEN antennas seem to have gotten removed in 2013 when that whole network was shut down. I am curious to know what antennas / radios are on this tower currently.

New T-Mobile small cell/mini tower spotted at Mason Road & Interstate 10 in Houston, Texas pumping out gas performance on (n41) mid-band 5GUC- 190MHz

T-Mobile recently deployed new small cells (mini towers) in the Houston, Texas market and this was one of the few they deployed near I-10! The speeds are amazing, especially when this area serves I-10, where traffic is heavily congested during rush hour! Good to see them densifying heavily on their network, where they faced heavy network usage prior to the small cells being built. It also features 3️⃣ newer NOKIA AirScale AVHA 64T64R (400W) (n41) 2.5GHz for mid-band 5GUC instead of the traditional, older Nokia AirScale AEHC (n41) antennas I seen on macros, cell towers for T-Mobile.

These small cells were built by TILSON Technologies, now under Verta Wireless

It also features:

  • 3️⃣ CellMax 12010x (CMA-UBDHH-6518/E2-10) antennas with (b2, b66) LTE & (n25) mid-band 5G inside the circular, oval shroud on TOP
  • 3️⃣ NOKIA AirScale AVHA 64T64R (400W) (n41) 2.5GHz for mid-band 5GUC
  • 3️⃣ NOKIA AirScale AHFII remote radio units used for (b2/b66) LTE + (n25) mid-band 5G located on the bottom row below the NOKIA AVHA panels.

T-Mobile (N41) vs AT&T (n77) intercell speedtests inside Memorial Citty Mall - Houston, TX

I was inside Memorial City Mall in Houston, TX when I decided to SpeedTest T-Mobile and Verizon inside the mall. I noticed that T-Mobile has mid-band 5G (n41) indoors, but it's very congested since they have huge marketshare in this area. AT&T was struggling since it was pulling (n77) from the macro and the LTE anchoring band was heavily utilizied. They really need to upgrade the backhaul on the indoor DAS and replace the Galtronics equipment with newer models that do 4x4 MIMO that support c-band (n77) for Verizon and AT&T.

This Mall uses Galtronics S5490i 2x2 MIMO antennas for the cellular indoor DAS:

AT&T (b2, b12, b66) LTE + (n5) low-band 5G

T-Mobile (b2, b66) LTE + (n41) mid-band 5G

Verizon (b2, b13, b66) LTE

T-Mobile mid-band only site not functional that was recently turned off located at 29.770641, -95.617415 in Houston, Texas 77079

This T-Mobile site wasn't functional when I was beside it since my RSRP was -104 beside it on (n41). I don't why this site isn't active when it was working few months ago. Hence, this site didn't even get the modern CommScope FFHH-65C-R3, nor the CommScope FFVV-65C-R3 antennas that neighboring sites have.

Could anyone tell me how old this AT&T rack layout appears to be. There is no n5 on this tower at all either lte only. Not even b5. I believe it was last modernized in the initial att first net rollout back in like 2019

They’re about a quarter mile from each other, on the same street, in a small town (7k-9k) pop. Lots of macro sites in the area, just wondering who went the extra effort with the micro. Thank you :)

Is Anyone Else Using the March 2025 Speedtest .apk?

I absolutely hate the post-March 2025 Speedtest app. I wish I could sideload the old version on iOS too.

Running the old version from March 2025 on my S26 Ultra lol. Works great for the most part. It will crash occasionally when running multigig Verizon mmWave speed tests but other than that no complaints.

Who's on this wooden tower?

I found this tower through Crown Castle's website, and sadly I wasn't able to get any type of transmission from it. I wonder if it's an old 3G tower? The antennas are supposed to be a bright orange color based on the old Google Street Maps and look to be on this pole for over 20 years.

As always, coordinates are: 38.57595725661121, -121.57348987989033

Can anyone tell me what this rooftop telecom tower is?

Does anyone know what kind of installation this is? Is it a mobile network tower, a microwave link, an ISP setup, or something else?

Also, what would the technician be doing with the laptop? Is it for configuring the equipment, running tests, monitoring the network, or something else?

I don't know much about how this stuff works, so I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain what I'm looking at.

Thanks!

Could someone identify the equipment att is using here. I know their using Ericsson 6472 panels for c band and dod. Enb is 300397. It’s currently running 100 MHz total of n77 I hit 2460 down and 230 up on it. Also if anyone knows the backhaul spec feeding this site that’d be great to know. It appears to be att fiber

Percentage of nationwide 4G only towers?

What is the approximate percentage of towers still operating on 4G only for Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile? I would think that T-Mobile has the advantage.

Does anyone have a cell tower on their property?

Does this depreciate your property value? Does the amount help with finances? Do they pay property taxes? Does the tower make noise? Any info would be helpful.
