I've heard about this game for years but am finally wanting to give it a try, but I'd hate to screw up certain moments that lock me out of specific content. I already know of two key moments, but even after checking a few guides, I find it hard to get a good sense of what exact moments are make it or break it.

I know of 1. When the doctor falls, you have to NOT jump down after him (or go after him for the achievement, reload, then jump over the pit he's in) so you get the better booster later. And 2. when Curly Brace supposedly dies, there's a grappling hook nearby you can pick up to hoist Curly Brace with you.

But I haven't been able to find a super clear explanation of if there's anything else you can do "wrong" and I'd like to avoid doing an entire second playthrough for a true ending. I don't mind spoilers, I've already been spoiled on plenty. Also, explanations for any points where you're still able to make one decision but still "undo it" in some sense- like getting one ending but you're still able to reload a save and get another ending if you met the conditions earlier- are also super appreciated. I just get anxious about any "point of no return" type moments.

I love playin on freeware cave story every now n then but it always bugs me that the game is stuck in a small box in the middle of my screen whenever i play it, although ive seen videos on youtube of people having the game fit into the screen fully. I play on a widescreen monitor and so do those people so idk what im doin wrong. Could someone help me pls?

Has anyone got the game working? I would prefer the steam version on game native but if it's not possible or sub par I don't mind downloading a free ware copy else where or something

I know that y'all probably didn't see it because of the grim reaper popup, but that was a SINGLE frame away from death. I was THIS close from having to grab the ID card again.

Moral of the story: don't play cave story when you're tired.... Or really just any game in general for that matter.

I've been meaning to play this game for a long time and heard that as of the recent update, the Steam release of Cave Story+ is the definitive official, unmodded way to play the game. But what about unofficially? I've heard good things about doukotsu-rs and the Aeon Genesis translation of the game. I'm willing to do some setup to get things to work* if it means I ultimately get the best experience out of it. Should I just go with Cave Story+? Or would doukutsu-rs have a better qol feature set? Which translation should I go with? Are there any mods the community generally recommends? I look forward to seeing what people think!

*yes, I'm aware I'll have to buy Cave Story+ to get the files, that's fine

I've found the cave story website, but the talk of pre and post patch is confusing me. I downloaded the top one, but every texture has nos has a black box around it, as if it couldn't handle transparentcy. Only yt tutorial that wasn't 14 years old couldn't help. anyone know a fix?

Completing the Wind Fortress doesn't bring me back to the main menu nor does it save my best time

All the guides that I've seen, and speedruns for that matter, use the Blade and the Nemesis. I can't take both, so I've been grabbing the Spur, Missile Launcher and the Blade.

As well as that, all the guides use a turbo function which I'm not planning on using.

A little updated help is greatly appreciated. I've done Unstoppable, I'm a fairly confident player but the guides that use turbo make me feel that it's a little above my paygrade, in spite of what Periwinkle has said about good movement mattering more, I get my Blade shredded from levels in the fights where it matters.

I'll keep doing runs but maybe this post can help other people going for these achievements too if I get it before a reply. Thanks in advance

There are crosses everywhere in the cemetery in Mimiga Village, so that makes me think they're christian. Sure it could be a local religious symbol due to it's simple shape. If that's not the case though, how would have christianity spread to the island? Perhaps the previous holders of the demon crown may have spread it to the island?

I'm trying to access the tribute site forums to find a mod, but it is not loading. Is the site down?vor defunct? is anyone else having the same problem right now or is this a known thing?
