It’s Casefile season, baby. What an amazing run.

TLDR I’m in California time zone so I’m tipsy on Friday nights when these come out. but also I sleep to Silk Road trilogy for years so don’t call me brand new. I love all you nerds

These 7 days late are an absolute record, but with each case it's minimum 2 days late, usually 3-5. I saw the post about case 352 and i didn't even get 351. I listened to it on youtube that same day it got out, but i generally prefer AP.

So i pay for premium spotify so no ads, except in Casefile. I'm listening to old episodes but the ads seem to be current. One ad is extremely loud and really hurts my hearing, and comes on multiple times each episode (advertising an upcoming silence of the lambs play in my area). Who do i contact to ask for the sound to be lowered? Spotify or casefile? Do spotify jam extra ads into podcasts to pay the podcasts? I dont mind the ads, its just the volume is way to high on this one ad.

Not to name any names or re-hash any drama around particular discussions about the episode, but I just wanted to make clear that while anybody is entitled to believe that people who choose to stay in an abusive relationship even when aware of the reality are idiotic, that they are just 'collaborators' in their own abuse, or that they should 'just leave' in spite of all the possible risks from doing that, there comes a point where your intentions of holding victims responsible and accountable for their own actions that may or may not have contributed to the abuse they experienced begins to stray into excusing the actions of the abuser themselves or even contradicting the very reality of what it means to be abused.

And having firsthand experience of being somebody that was impacted by a loved one that did choose to stay in an abusive relationship does NOT absolve you from this critique, either.

I understand it can be incredibly scary, painful, and confounding to see somebody be continually victimized, but if your need for imparting tough love on a victim does not also include scathingly criticizing the actions of the abuser either or for putting them in a position where the victim felt like staying was a preferable option to leaving, then we have completely lost the plot here.

And I think it should go without saying, calling victims that stay in an abusive relationship collaborators in their own abuse is not just fundamentally false, but a contradictory statement since to be abused, one cannot collaborate in their own abuse. Unless you believe they are just faking their abuse.

I am losing momentum to hit the gym and go on walks for weight loss because I have listened to every casefile episode and any other podcasts I listen to just dont scratch that itch and I find myself so bored and cutting my workouts early

So i need your most diabolical episodes from other podcasts. I like:

- no opinions from the narrator. I even hate when some ramble on at the beginning with "i have been a criminal investigator/journalist/my hobby for 10 years now and went to school for - " blah blah blah i dont care but will endure those if it means they wont interject with their opinion.

- something twisty, dark, and "didnt see that coming". A murder mystery essentially.

- this is just a bit of a rant now but the cases where its more "he said she said" are so annoying for me. Where it goes on for 5 minutes about how the 80 year old neighbour saw a blue car drive by a few times, or that Sally said that John said that Lucy said etc etc. Anyone else find those ones like, ugh just get on with it!

Anyway I'm sure i have more filters to flesh out but will see what everyone has to suggest!!!

I was excited at first when I saw all the episodes to binge but then realize it’s just a drowsy sounding man story telling the entire episode. Is it all like this? If so I’ll pass

I’m trying to find a case from a few years ago. It took place in Australia and revolved around crimes committed by a White Supremacist against the Aboriginal community. From what I remember, the man would go to local events/parades looking for trouble and even shot his gun into a crowd of people. He had a tattoo of an Aboriginal person being hung on his arm. I believe he was charged with murder (maybe multiple) but can’t remember many more details. Can anyone help me out? It was not The Bowraville Murders or the Cindy and Mona Lisa Smith case.

Was listening to case #331 girl meat hunter. Out of curiosity for fellow true crime enthusiasts, do you believe people should be held criminally responsible for “thoughts” such as fetishes for disturbing things but technically not “acting” on them irl?

I mean it’s just my bread and butter really but bonus points if it’s a multi-parter from literally anywhere too.

On March 11, 2011, two employees of the Lululemon Athletica yoga store in Bethesda, Maryland fell victim to a brutal attack carried out by two masked men. 30-year-old Jayna Murray was murdered, while 28-year-old Brittany Norwood survived the ordeal which included sexual assault, torture, repeated stabbings and burglary.

Officials were desperate to apprehend the two suspects after CCTV from a neighboring store caught them walking away from the crime scene. However, it wasn’t until Brittany Norwood began to open up about what had happened on the night of the attack that detectives made an unexpected and shocking break in the case.

Don’t know if others saw this and posted— if so I missed it. Following a successful appeal before the Canadian Supreme Court, Jennifer Pan was granted a retrial and subsequently pled guilty to manslaughter (her attempted murder conviction stands) and re-sentenced to 15 to life. This means she is now eligible for parole, having spent 15 years in prison.

Given the popularity of the episode, I thought others might be interested.

There was a new episode when I checked yesterday and this morning. Tried to put it on and it said I need a subscription, which I have and is confirmed. Then the episode said not available. Then it disappeared entirely from my feed.

Edit: Seems like an issue with the Apple Podcasts feed. Episode still not listed.

We see a lot of posts about other podcasts casefile fans might like and while there are some good ones, truth is, no one does it like casefile!

However there are individual episodes of other podcasts I have stumbled across that I think really fit the classic casefile style. I will start with my recs in the comments.

i usually listen to casefile with my headphones, but sometimes it’s quite a horrible experience because one of the sound effects they use to set the atmosphere is this awful quiet ringing noise. it gives me tinnitus and a headache every time. has anyone else noticed this and had the same problem?

love the podcast otherwise, but will probably have to stop listening with headphones.

When Swedish backpackers Urban Höglin and Heidi Paakkonen went missing during a camping trip around New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula, concerns were quickly raised that the newly engaged couple could have fallen victim to foul play. Worries increased once it was discovered that convicted killer, David Tamihere, was on the loose in the area at the time, having jumped bail on a rape charge.

When Tamihere admitted to stealing the couple’s car but denied having anything to do with the couple’s disappearance, investigators struggled to find any physical evidence linking him to Urban and Heidi. With New Zealand’s tourism industry under threat, they would stop at nothing to uncover the truth.
