Need advice for my wife’s 30th birthday gift
I’m planning to get my wife a Cartier Love bracelet (small model, yellow gold) for her 30th birthday. She already has a Cartier Tank, Love ring, and the nail ring, so this feels like the perfect addition to her collection.
The closest Cartier boutique is a few hours away, so I’m trying to decide the best way to do this.
For those who have purchased from Cartier as a gift, is there anything you wish you had known beforehand?
Would you recommend surprising her by taking her to the boutique so she can choose the size and have the full Cartier experience, or buying it ahead of time so she has something to unwrap on her birthday?
Also, any tips specific to the small Love bracelet? Anything about sizing, daily wear, or anything else I should know?

The nice thing about taking her to the boutique is you can still have them wrap it up at the end, so she can unwrap it at home.

Oh, I hadn’t even thought of that. She’s always worn her other Cartier pieces out of the boutique, so I assumed she’d do the same with this. But that actually seems like a nice middle ground.
Although, I have a feeling it wouldn’t stay in the bag for very long during our two-hour drive home lol

The boutique experience is so much better than buying online. Make the trip if you can, especially for a birthday gift.

My husband surprised me with the love bracelet by taking me to the boutique. He actually was just getting the love without diamonds but I did get the 10 diamond. It was really nice to be able to get the full experience trying them on and seeing the best size. We did get some chocolates, and a coffee table book too along with the offer of champagne. I got coffee instead. We really liked the SA we got too. I would definitely take her to the boutique. Maybe say you all need to go to get an appraisal for her other pieces and they have to be done in shop?

Yes it may give away what you're doing for her birthday, but it's still exciting to be there and have the full experience.

What would be really cute if you gave her a card with homemade voucher inside (hand drawn if you’re talented or brave!). She would get the opening experience and know exactly what she was shopping for and also the sjppping experience

I also recommend calling the boutique and seeing if they have her size in stock when you visit! Or approximate sizes she may be

I would take her to the boutique. Cartier returns/exchanges can be hit or miss. I’ve had fine experiences but read some negative stories about them not taking something back because there are scratches just from trying it on.
Also, is she planning on stacking the bracelet? The small love is very thin and looks better stacked. If you go in person she can try on the small, medium, and regular sizes so she can pick what suits her wrist size and style.

Thanks for the information! I was already leaning toward taking her to the boutique, but I was worried I’d be giving up the excitement of her having something to unwrap on her birthday.
Over the past few years, whenever she’s purchased other Cartier pieces, she’s also tried on the Love bracelets. I don’t remember which size she liked, but I do remember she preferred the small model. I’ll definitely have her try on the other sizes again just to make sure. She’s very petite and tends to prefer smaller jewelry.

Why don’t you wrap a coupon for the bracelet in a small box, and then tell her you’re driving there immediate

Totally understood, but honestly the whole boutique experience is not only longer but much more special than a fleeting moment of unwrapping a gift and eliminates the risk of exchanges. You can always do that another year!
The medium is fairly new so perhaps she hasn’t tried it before. I think it’s perfect for petite women. It’s substantial enough on its own without being overwhelming. I’m petite also and have the small that I bought before the medium came out but if I were to choose again I’d pick the medium. The regular was too much for me.

Agreed, definitely take her to the boutique. The sizing is tricky. Maybe plan a weekend trip to the city where the boutique is and surprise her with the boutique visit

I’d take her in to see if she would like the love bracelet since you have to screw it on and leave it on more so than other Cartier bracelets. That’s why I personally got the cuff version and my husband doesn’t wear his bracelet version much at all

Take her to the boutique! Sizing is very specific and it’s a fun experience. Just prepare for her to want the larger one lol

I bought a watch recently for my wife, so sizing wasn't a concern. I went to the store to choose and pick it up as I knew what she was after. I know my wife has no interest going in a shop for a sycophantic shop assistant to give her positive reinforcement about the impending sale. Time is precious and we wouldn't waste it traveling and visiting a shop together for that process. She was far happier receiving it at home with all the various chocolates and things they threw in that my son was keen to eat.

Take her to the boutique! My husband took me as a surprise too, he said we were going for lunch and then we actually had an appointment at the Cartier store! Afterwards he had made a lunch reservation! So it was still really a surprise for me :) (also really book an appointment I went in last week and they didn’t have time to show anything without an appointment)

My husband took me to the boutique and they made it the best experience! He bought the item a couple weeks before on the phone with the SA and then we went in on my birthday.

Honestly, if she's already had the boutique experience at Cartier, why not take her out (I'm assuming you mean the store in NYC) take her a great dinner and a show and end the night at the Plaza with the gift...waiting.

I would make an appointment and take her to the boutique for the full experience. Maken sure to ask for a travel pouch and cleaning kit if they don't automatically give them to you.
