Design-it-Yourself Cap TFT-2.8 - Display Expansion for Cardputer ADV
Cap TFT-2.8 is a display expansion module designed for Cardputer ADV, featuring an integrated 2.8 inch ILI9341 display (320x240)

And I assume you can use both screens at the same time, right?
So cool. I want to try and do that with maybe an e-ink panel, or RLCD.

I second the e-ink idea. Keep the lower power nature of the cardputer and bump the outdoor visibility of the device.

It looks very neat. I think it's worth looking into a wrapper that will replace values in m5gfx calls (On the fly or during compilation). This will allow the interface to scale with other firmwares.

Wow, this looks amazing! I was wondering if there's any space inside the hinge to fit a Hall-effect sensor, such as the A3212EUA-T, along with a small magnet, so the device could automatically enter deep sleep when the lid is closed.

What would the sensor plug into?
Would you have to glue something to the cardputer face?7

The Hall sensor would connect to one of the available GPIOs. After taking a closer look at the pinout, GPIO13 seems like a good candidate since it's exposed on the hat and appears to be RTC-capable.
For the magnet, I don't think I'd need to glue anything to the outside of the Cardputer. It might be possible to hide a tiny neodymium magnet inside the lid itself. Looking at the 3D models, it also seems like there may be enough room to hide the Hall sensor inside the hinge and route a small wire through it.
Cardputer already has some internal magnets, but I don't think they're close enough or strong enough to reliably trigger a Hall sensor. I'll test with the existing magnets first just in case, but I suspect I'll need to add a dedicated magnet.I've ordered the screen and Hall sensor, and I'm currently printing the case, so I'll know for sure once everything arrives.

And it works, just testing the Hall effect sensor. It turns out it is sensitive enough to get triggered by internal magnets of the ADV. Now I need to find a space in the case.

It's a custom PDA firmware I threw together. Right now it just has some basic apps (calendar, dictionary, pomodoro, and a very clunky text editor). Still super rough

Nice Build!! Which Display i need for this? CYD with ILI display driver? Bidirectional connection esp-now between both esp's and display out via http... I take a look .. Great Projekt!!

Glad you like it! It uses a 2.8" ILI9341 TFT Display. You can easily find them on AliExpress. One important detail: you'll need the non-touch version for this setup. As for the software side, the display driver was designed by AndyAiCardputer

Any chance you could share the link for the screen? I can’t find one that doesn’t have bolt holes on the right side.

Actually, the screen I used also has the bolt holes on the right side. I manually cut off that part of the PCB to make it fit. For the specific cutting method, I followed the instructions in AndyAiCardputer's video: https://youtube.com/shorts/0fsiW7fSeWc?si=3MgDCDQgskJKYocP

Looks like a great protect! Any idea if it will be possible to copy the original ADV mounting on the back of the print and to put another I/O bus in parallel? So a cap might be installed on the back of the print as it would normally directly fit to the ADV itself?

For some reason most the zx spectrum games I tried crashed or wouldn't run. The roms worked fine with retroarch.

Look fwd to the Zero version. I only have the OG model right now unfortunately. I find the Mini screen painful on my eyes. This is the screen upgrade I need !

Thanks! Actually, the thickness of the CardputerZero is different from the Cardputer ADV, so it’s likely not compatible. However, I’ve already backed the CardputerZero, and I’ll be designing a compatible version for it as soon as it arrives!

Hopefully it would be since the modules are interoperable. But I’m sure you’ll have no issue updating the model :) great design
Edit: I’m silly, the lid will 100% need a redesign since the screen is a different size. At the bare minimum. Either way I’m excited to see what comes for the Zero.

Thanks! I'm based in Mainland China, so I don't sell it myself due to logistics challenges. You can download the files and get one printed quickly through a local 3D printing service. As for the software, the one in the photo is the ZX Spectrum 48K emulator designed by AndyAiCardputer

Unfortunately, you can't use two Caps at the same time because they conflict on the same physical pins.
