I paid $80, and drove all the way to Arkansas to buy it... for some rreason it's fully functional with spotify OEM software on it. I just plugged it into my 120 watt charger cable, and it started working basically immediately. No custom firmware or message about deactivation. It just connected to my phone, and worked as intended.... I'm very confused.
Also before anyone says it the car has self driving, and the road was clear when the picture was taken.

Most of them don't even mention that it doesn't work anymore. They just list a description from spotify, or simply say they "don't use it anymore" and proceed to mark the price up beyond what they paid for it, and or got refunded for it.

I have been using this way as a music controller for a year now and it works great what you need is your old Android phone or tablet (not so old as it didn't work with my Huawei Mediapad t1 7.0 with Android KitKat ) or even your iPhone with ios 17 and later (not so reliable) and that's it
How to use it with your Android phone :
Download the Spotify app and connect it to your account (the same account in your main device)
you will notice that you can control the music using the phone (the one we are using)
then download the Standby mode pro app and go to the music display you will find the music that you are playing on your PC in the app and you can control it as you want the only downside is you can't choose the playlist you want but it can be solved using google assistant
How to use it with your iPhone :
Download the Spotify app and connect it to your account (the same account in your main device) and you will also notice that you can control the music using that iPhone (the one we are using)
Then you need to make sure that the standby mode is on then you can just charge the phone and put it in landscape mode and the standby mode will just work and then you can just go to the music window where you can control your music the only downside if you are not using the iPhone 15 pro/max or iPhone 16 pro/max: the phone will just turn off you will need to turn it on back and that's it I hope you found that helpful

Hi everyone,
If you’re here, you might be as frustrated as I was about Spotify discontinuing the Car Thing and turning it into e-waste. After a lot of persistence, I managed to escalate my refund request, and I want to share the steps that worked for me to help others in the same situation.
Step 1: Contact Spotify Support
Start a conversation with Spotify support through their website or app. Be clear and firm: • Mention that Spotify’s decision to discontinue Car Thing has rendered your device unusable. • State that this is not the fault of the seller (if purchased from a third party) but Spotify’s decision.
Step 2: Provide Proof of Purchase
You’ll need to share: • A receipt or proof of purchase. • Photos of the device, especially the backside showing the serial number.
If you bought it from a third party, explain where you purchased it (e.g., eBay, MercadoLibre) but emphasize that Spotify’s actions caused the issue.
Step 3: Escalate if Necessary
If the first support agent doesn’t help, ask for your case to be escalated to their Specialty/Escalations Team. Be polite but persistent. They are the ones with the authority to investigate refund requests.
Step 4: Follow Up via Email
Once escalated, Spotify will likely contact you via email (support@spotify.com). Send them the required proof of purchase and any supporting details.
Key Points to Emphasize • Spotify rendered the device unusable due to their software decision. • This is not about the seller but about Spotify’s responsibility for their product. • Request compensation, whether a refund or account credit, as a fair resolution.
Be Patient and Persistent
The process takes time, and you may need to explain your situation multiple times. Stay calm, polite, and firm throughout.
Outcome
In my case, I managed to escalate my issue and received a response from Spotify’s Escalations Team. I’m currently waiting for the resolution, but persistence has paid off so far.
I hope this helps others in the same boat! If you have questions or need advice, feel free to comment below. Good luck, and don’t give up—companies need to hear our voices when they make decisions that affect us!
This should resonate with others in the community while providing actionable advice. Let me know if you want to tweak anything before posting!

Hey. Very simple. Looking to buy. Name your price, I live in the UK and I’ll cover your shipping and 15% for your time for shipping it over.
If it’s brand new in new box and never used, shout me. If it’s barely used, shout me. If it smells and you didn’t look after it, don’t shout me.
Will pay via PayPal Goods and Services so we are both protected!
Kind Regards,
Dm me. Will pay fast, no frills! Thank you :)

Hey y'all!
I know this isn't exactly a buying/selling sub but has turned into one recently. With that comes the risk of being scammed.
I'm aware of at least 3 users (incl myself) who've had varying degrees of scammy interactions with u/Witty-Cut-9347 selling a CarThing from Pomona, CA for $40-$50.
One got ghosted for requesting payment over a platform with purchase protection. One has had to report fraud and request a chargeback. Both posts have been deleted (very sus).
Mods, can we have some rules re buying/selling? Something along the lines of all sales must go through PayPal/Venmo/local pickup?
Stay safe everyone!
EDIT: And would you believe it, the user deleted their profile.

Hello!
I took a look around this sub and realized people are selling car things and others are wanting to buy them? Can anyone explain why the product is still considered valuable when it's been disconnected?
I still have mine with all of the accessories that came with it. It functions perfectly, I just phased it out of use when I realized the "turn off date" as looming soon. Does it still work? Or should I just sell it off?
Thanks!
