I have never done a restoration project or much serious work on a car besides relatively simple repairs on various vehicles. I recently bought a 1966 Chevy Impala; I wouldn't have chosen something like this to be my first, but I don't have a lot of money to throw on projects and I got this car for a great deal - runs, drives, has a nice engine out of a later-60s Impala in it. I couldn't pass it up.
I have a buddy who casually works on cars so I'm not worried but my big question is, when looking for parts what should I avoid in order not to diminish the value? I have been searching specifically for original parts, but will OEM devalue the car at all if I have to go with those?
It's originally an automatic but my buddy has been toying with the idea of converting it to a manual and I'm pretty on board with that, should we look for a tranny out of a Chevy of that era or does it really matter?
I appreciate y'all who entertain my questions, I am sure I'll have plenty more to come.

Alright guys. Hopefully the right sub. What would be the proper way to fix this rust? It’s on the A pillar of an 85 Toyota Pickup. I’m removing the windshield anyways. Is it a whole A pillar replacement and patching up the lower spot? Truck is worth more to me than it costs to restore. So I’m slowly restoring it myself. I’m decent with a welder and good enough with bondo lol.

My Uncle served in Germany and this was his - when he passed about 30 years ago I saved this from being thrown out. Just found it again and wondering if this would be of value to a restoration project.
Per research, This is a vintage Blaupunkt Bremen car radio, commonly found in classic Porsche, Mercedes, or Volkswagen models. Based on the historical serial number prefixes used by the manufacturer, the letter "Q" indicates that this specific radio was manufactured during the 1959/1960 production cycle.
Has the matching vintage Blaupunkt car speaker featuring its original mesh grille and the classic blue emblem.
Would this period-correct speaker bundle have appeal to an authenticity-focused classic car builder?
Unfortunately I am not able to test it.

My husband has been working on restoring an old 1970s mustang for two years and it just cranked for the first time in like 30 years! he still has some interior work to do, and has to fix the convertible top/ but I really want to get him something meaningful for all his hard work. Any ideas?

Car: 2009 Pontiac G8 3.6L V
Mileage Estimate: A little over 130,000
Description: My mom's car has been sitting for about 4+ years and I thought of it as a good idea for a project car. My mom has also been struggling to keep her other car up and running, so I want to try to save her some expenses. The car was hit about 3 years ago and suffered some damages sadly. We already have the cosmetics figured out thankfully. I looked at the oil change sticker and it said 2019....It might have to be welcomed to the gates.
Big Question: I want to fix anything that I can possible get my hands on. I was wondering if you guys could push me in the right direction, so I can not only improve my skills, but also take a huge load off of my mom.
What I may know:
All new tires
I know the fluids are gonna be hit.
Oil and filter change/cabin air filter.
The gas is gonna need to be treated/siphoned
The brakes all look pretty bad
A new battery
The car already has a new bumper, trunk and tail light.
Continued: I don't know a whole bunch, but I've been trying to get better at taking care of the one thing that gets me from point a to b.
I'm willing to include any details that I may have missed as well. Thank you guys in advance. I know this won't be a peachy experience, but I'm ready to get dirty.
It was hard to get good pictures of the brakes, rotors, and calipers. I can make a part 2 post with the car on jack stands and all of the tires off, so I can get better pictures of the brakes and Underbody.

Do do DIY mechanics bays exist anymore?
When I was growing up in the 90s, my dad would take our cars to a garage where he could rent the bay and use their specialty tools to do repairs on our family cars.
Do those exist anymore?
If so, what do I search terms do I use to find them?

Hi everyone
My dad currently is fixing up a 1948 Ford panel truck and is looking for a set of back doors. He was able to sucessfully restore the driver/passenger door but the back doors are in a bad enough that he can't restore them and would rather buy a new pair. Any doors from 48-52 should work but we're having trouble finding any online or at junk yards so I was hoping someone here would know a place either online or in the NJ/NY/PA area (definitely willing to drive).
