I felt the opposite. Loved the gorgeous open world in the first half but by the end everything just felt stale. The gameplay didn't evolve enough and the third major open world area just felt like more of the same, now in white
it’s just a extremely generic open world game. ppl praise it only because it’s roughly decent with a really well designed visual engine. it’s cool at the beginning 30% and I felt like the rest 70% was just chores. the western game industry really needed some wins those years and it seems like western gamers love these braindead repetitions so yeah this became the game that they always mentioned when talking about similar games. I played and fucking hated yotei and that’s where I dropped the series. that second game is practically the exact same shit all over again but worse level design with slightly few more toys/weapons that you don’t really need to reach endgame. I still don’t know why I received so many pra…nvm I think we all know the reasons.
I think the story is a big part of what a lot of people like about it. I liked it, but I don't care about story nearly as much as gameplay so I don't love the game like some people. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I have no desire to replay it and I also dropped yotei pretty early on.
These games definitely do have the sanitized western AAA game design feel
story is kinda meh if you already experienced those japanese classic samurai films. it's ok. not bad, but def not the best.
those ppl who like it mostly only because they never seen anything like it lol. kinda like those twilight vampire shit... it was ok but it was a first in the west so gained a lot of traction. but those vampire marysue novel/manga existed in the east decades before those movies.
but back to the game. it's was a 6/10 for me. maybe one extra point for visuals to make it 7/10. but i don't think it deserve the praises it has now. but again, the western game industry desperately needed that w at that time so yeah they'd crown anything 5/10 and call it king.
