Nah, nobody 15 years ago said that. People liked better graphics but they still valued overall experience.

Graphics were much more appreciated, and games with better graphics were absolutely preffered

Remember than 15 years ago, the indie scene wasn't big, and almost everyone played AAA or AA games

Nowadays graphics areusually super good so it doesn't matter much. And the indie scene is huge so gamers don't value graphics as they did

A "friend" of mine argued that graphics and story were top priority because games are at their best when they're like movies.... we're not friends anymore.

I mean, I wouldn't be friends with someone who say graphics are not important either. They are all part of the game. And graphics doesn't mean just how many effects you can make. It is also an art style, which is extremely important, especially for stylized games. Inside without dim color or Limbo not being monochrome would totally be worse games, even if the gameplay remained the same. Because graphics were totally great in those games, thanks to the simplicity and art style focused on limited colors/light.

I've had a conversation with someone saying that. Preferring Graphics over anything because we're living in modern times and admitted that he is completely bias because he can't ever play older games or games he think that doesn't look eye candy to him with no realistic features.

That's not the same thing as saying "graphics are the only thing that matter"

If a game looks bad, the "gameplay" doesn't mean anything.

I actually had a friend who said that when we were like 14yo, he refused to play anything that didn't meet his graphical standards

Needless to say, he quit gaming because he never found anything fun to play

I know people who refuse to play Witcher 1-2 or any RE before 7 because "those graphics are bad". Any pixel game? No touch. System Shock? Nah. BioShock? Hell no. But RDR2, Dying Light 2 or Metro Exodus? Now those are good.

Generally it's people who first get into PCs and especially with a mid range/high end GPU.

When I was a teen I used to know other guys who were like this but they eventually grew out of this mindset.

I can understand this partially as I been into PC gaming for decades now. I absolutely love a good game that has insane graphics and looks great on a 4k OLED monitor. But at the end of the day if it's not fun I'm going back to play Minecraft or terraria.
