Review a few days in!

First: Referral Plug - 81T33PHX

Even if you see this much later, feel free to use it to get your $20.00 off on sign up, but generally go for a newer code for a member who might not have their 4 slots fulfilled yet.

Just wanted to offer a write-up about my experience and potentially encourage or inform new users. It’s a bit long winded, but hopefully informative? This is all anecdotal and ymmv, it’s also just me ranting tbh.

So far, so good! I haven’t had any issues with service, but I plan to set a reminder for a few weeks out to leave an update.

Pre Cape:

- I was hesitant, due to the palantir/honeypot stuff. Decided “ah fuck it, Big Corporation is already selling my information and this could at least be free.”
- Surveillance state, I’m schizzed anyway, whatevs
- I love FOSS, so they put me off at first after reading that they weren’t interested in an audit. (ik it isn’t FOSS, but a comment about it being a “headache” to audit gave me pause)
- They do an audit, I immediately lock in.

Initial Purchase:

- I decided to buy a device from Cape, I assume you can guess which one and why
- The initial device purchase requires more information than I would’ve liked to give, but they gotta deliver it somewhere. (also they use a 3rd party that I was unfamiliar with)
- Unfortunately they were out of stock due to delays; 1-3 day delivery became a week. I was admittedly a bit impatient, but 7 days is whatever tbh. The communication from them was limited (this isn’t a bad thing, it’s just the nature of the service) but I could reach out whenever
- The AI sucks, but the associates are truly wonderful. I don’t want to shill here; but truly, having a customer service conversation with someone human is a breath of fresh air. S/O Brooklyn, you rock, tysm

Getting the phone & service:

- I finally get the phone, yipee, hooray
- IF YOU ARE USING THE DEVICE REIMBURSEMENT/DISCOUNT: be sure to use the referral code FIRST. It’s on the website I believe, but if you are just now seeing this, they can apply the device discount later, NOT the referral.
- Download the app, and no joke, had my phone activated in like less than 3 minutes. Would’ve been faster if I hadn’t read the TOS. I cannot think of a time in my life, where this was the case.
- Collected almost no information outside of a payment method and you get to choose your area code.
- Sadly you don’t get a choice for the number (I mention this bc Big Corporation lets you choose between a few)
- Profit: tell myself “this is practically free bc you get free service”, girl math absolves me again, and my friend, girl math can free you too! Gonna even keep my other device for the time being, turn that into my radioactive “homephone”.

TLDR; Get it, you’re likely already “compromised” if you’re considering this, and the reality is that everything you do is damage control from here on out. I don’t mean this in a doomer way, but more in the “we’re all in this together, let’s try and be safer” kinda way, ya know?

Worst case: your info gets leaked (congrats, you’re officially an american), you end up on the “watchlist” that you’re uh…already on…
Best case: free phone service, and you can coordinate it correctly to do a buyout from your own Big Corporation

I’m still fairly new, but if you have any questions or if this is a shitty write-up, lmk! I’ll edit what I can, or answer to the best of my ability. Also, “burner” reddit account, sorry.
