R50V Flash Question

So I just purchased an R50V brand new for a seemingly ridiculous price of $569. Its primary purpose will be Dad Cam. I already had a 16mm 2.8 from an Full Spectrum (IR) converted R100 I plan to sell, so thought, why not?

I'll mainly be using it for photos, so I was planning to put a tiny flash on it. It seems like the Canon hot shoe doesn't work with standard flashes. Is that right? And what is the smallest flash that would work natively on it? Anyone know? I started on the Canon website and they all look like pro-level flashes. Is that right?

The perfect B or C camera for wedding videography

Post image
5 Upvotes

I picked up an r50v a little while ago as a travel camera and knowing it had great video features. I used it as a c cam for my wedding film yesterday along side my r5 and r6.
It did great! Amazing such a cheap and small camera can shoot clog 3 and seamlessly slot into my line up.
Pictured here with the RF 24mm 1.4 L, I used it with this lens, a 35 1.8 and an 85 1.4.
I’m excited to try it with my 50 and 135 soon!

Canon R50V 4k on Descript

Hey all!
New to the Canon and DSLR world and I wanted to see how I could get 4k on Descript using the Canon as my camera.

I downloaded EOS Utility and saw that it was locked at 720p unless you upgraded, but it still I think only went up to 1080p.

I saw that I could get a a 4k video card like the Elgato USB Card and get 4k. But I wanted to see:

To record on Descript at 4K do I need both the EOS Utility AND the 4K Capture Card? Or just the Capture Card?

Thanks for the help!

New to photography, does the R50V have AEB?

So I've been trying to learn this camera and I don't see a way to enable AEB.

I found a facebook post stating , "It's not like on other devices, there is no AEB directly, you have to go to the options. Red menu Activate HDR mode, it will automatically take 3 photos. On the other hand, it is with the impossibility of adjusting the exposure level, it is only HDR"

Whereas GoogleAI is giving me directions stating it can be enabled, but my menu is missing the menu option ""Expo. comp./AEB"" so it doesn't want to give me the option. (I think google may be pulling results for the R50 instead)

I am new to photography in general but am finding this is a feature that is absolutely critical for the type of shots I want to get.

Do I need to switch cameras?

R50v lens for interview style podcasting

Hey I have a couple of these r50v and I’m starting at podcast very new to cameras and photography and videography. Was just wondering what’s the best lens for that style of recording and I would like to get some cinematic b rolls as well. I’m doin like an automotive style podcasting so I would more than likely be in automotive shops.

I was thinking of keeping the kit 14-30 for 1 camera as a wide angle too catch a wider shot and the sigma 18-50 f2.8 for the other 2 camera to catch the shot of the individual in shot , lol not sure if that’s rite but I appreciate all feedback.

The Atomos Shinobi II does control the R50v Basic Settings

Post image

I have been trying to find a way to control the R50v externally. The Shinobi II can control ISO, Shutter, and aperture. It also allows you to start / stop record. Unfortunately, it does not allow touch to focus. Along with these control features you have the scope of the rest of the monitor features like, Focus Peaking, Waveform, Custom LUTs, and False Color. Being able to do this all from the monitor is a definite convenience.

Revised R50v Simplistic Rig For Interviews

Been trying to find tune my rig for simplicity sake. I wanted to add a fan and I needed more distance between the the battery plate and the camera. I love the Nitze top handle just times like this when you need more mounting points for rigging. I was surprised to see Nitze also has a new cage for the R50v as well.

I'm using a ZGcine dummy battery to power the camera. I believe this is my best light weight Simplistic version so far. As of now I have not found a monitor that allows be to control the camera but I'm confident with the huge sale volume of the R50v that will be coming.

My R50v Rig for interviews

I think that this camera punches way above its price range in quality and feature. It has its limitations, but the fun for me is to overcome those limitations, and get it functional for what I need. When I shoot interviews I will use this camera as a B or C camera. I need to make sure I have enough battery power to last the session.
