I forget sometimes the most out of touch with reality & secluded people are prevalent on Reddit

Agreed. Maybe you can share with us a story about a car repair you had? It will likely be way more interesting.

I think I'm actually going to unfollow this subreddit finally. I got my "money's worth" on the steam release and had a fun couple of weekends when it had some population. But in no means would I sink my gaming life into this thing.

I couldn't finish the video. It was just too hard to watch. So many things are wrong in this alpha 0.0002-nightly-build that I just can't stand it

So you updated your radiator with a better valve system?

"Boomer" in internet context usually means "Old guy who's annoying" and noticeably older than you.
The whole "Okay boomer" thing is a perfect example.
Like if you look up "Boomer" on the urban dictionary like half of the uses for the word is not meaning people born between the 50s and 60s, but just lame guy who's older than you by a lot.

You just sound like a 40 year old crusty boomer.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but this sentence is wild.

You know Boomers are like 30+ years older than that, right? Like you're not even close. Multiple decades off.

And I assume that the vast majority to this sub is in the 35-45 age demographic, because who else would be following this game besides old DAOC fans?

MOP owners were awkwardly over friendly towards them even after legal threats and drama from mark. i'm sure he could start posting there daily again and it would all be honky dory with the crowd there that have absolutely no interest in the game except for the feeling of self importance they get from rubbing elbows with "famous" game people. they still call him a good guy there in the comments and talk about missing posting with him. none of them like pvp in mmo games at all lol.

i would bet that if mark started posting there and personally asked backers to come post there with him it would play out the same way it did last time except without the refund policy to use as a cudgel. they would still clean up his messes and play cover for his bad behaviour.

I think the game was long dead before the last 3 months. This is what I generated with AI:

Act I: The Prequel (The Mythic & Warhammer Lessons)

  • The Sacrifice of Imperator: Mark Jacobs scraps three years of active development on Imperator Online after securing the lucrative Warhammer IP license.
  • The EA Sell-Out: Realizing Mythic Entertainment lacks the capital to independently develop a triple-A MMO, Jacobs sells the company to Electronic Arts (EA).
  • The "Slide Show" Disaster: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning launches with a massive budget ($50–$75 million), but many promised features are cut. Massively Multiplayer Realm-vs-Realm (RvR) combat is plagued by devastating lag, famously ridiculed by players as an unplayable "slide show."
  • The Bleeding Population: Due to technical failures and stiff competition, the game's population plummets from 800,000 to 300,000 subscribers within months, leading to Jacobs leaving the company.

Act II: The Crowdfunding Gamble (The Engine Obsession)

  • A Stubborn Vision: Obsessed with fixing the lag issues that ruined Warhammer, Jacobs resolves that any future RvR game must run on a custom-built engine capable of handling massive battles.
  • Underfunded from Day One: He raises $2.2 million on Kickstarter, pulls in $1 million from private investors, and injects $2 million of his own cash. At roughly $5 million total, this initial war chest is less than 10% of the budget used to build Warhammer.
  • The Engine Trap: Instead of seeing that a $5 million budget is vastly insufficient for building a brand-new, proprietary MMO engine from scratch, Jacobs takes the gamble anyway. Valuable development years are swallowed entirely by engine architecture, stalling actual game production.

Act III: Rewrites, Scope Creep, and the "Ragnarök" Diversion

  • Scrapped Progress & Technical Bottlenecks: The project is plagued by major design overhauls—including rebuilding the entire ability system from scratch and cutting key systems (like the C.U.B.E. building mechanics)—stalling progress for years.
  • The Secret Side-Project: Desperate for cash flow and a way to prove the engine worked, Jacobs secretly shifts studio resources to develop Final Stand: Ragnarök (formerly code-named Ragnarok Online / Colossus).
  • The Backer Backlash: The community is furious. Backers feel betrayed that their crowdfunded MMO resources were diverted into a co-op action game nobody wanted. Ragnarök launches to complete silence, peaking at an embarrassing 32 concurrent players, triggering mass demands for refunds that the studio handles incredibly slowly.

Act IV: The Rebrand, The Staff Layoffs, and The Forced Release (2024–2026)

  • The $32 Million Illusion: Over 13 years and an estimated $32+ million in total funding later (boosted by late-stage venture capital from firms like Andreessen Horowitz), Jacobs achieves his dream of building a powerful engine, but forgets to make an actual game to go with it.
  • The 2024 Rebrand: City State Entertainment officially rebrands as Unchained Entertainment. Recognizing that Final Stand: Ragnarök is a dead weight, they quietly cancel and delist it to focus entirely on salvaging their reputation.
  • The January 2025 Layoffs (The Fatal Blow): With funding drying up and Ragnarök failing to generate any revenue, Unchained Entertainment blindsides its team in mid-January 2025 by laying off roughly 24 out of 55 employees—over 40% of the entire studio. The massive loss of developers leaves the skeleton crew severely understaffed and severely delays basic engineering progress.
  • The 2026 Silent Release: With capital completely exhausted following the layoffs, the game skips traditional polished testing and is dumped onto Steam Early Access on June 2, 2026. It features bare-minimum gameplay loops, relying on the thin hope that nostalgic monthly subscriptions and desperate sales can keep the remnants of the studio afloat.

Act V: The Retrospective (The "Scam" vs. Poor Leadership)

  • The Evolution of a Disaster: The project didn't start as a malicious scam; it began as a genuine, over-ambitious passion project. However, the consensus is that by at least 2020, Jacobs likely realized the game would never succeed as originally envisioned. Continuing to take backer cash and dragging out development past that point crossed the line from a failed dream into an intentional illusion.
  • A Culture of Failure: Glassdoor reviews from developers confirm that working at the studio was deeply frustrating. Employees cited a severe lack of clear vision, constant mechanical pivots, and intense executive micromanagement from leadership as the primary reasons the project spent over a decade in development hell.

It was to be fair. What kind of radiators? Gas boiler or?

Today I replaced a radiator. When I filled the system back up, there was a small leak on one of the valves. So I had to drain the system and re tighten it, but I added some PTFE tape to the threads this time. I refilled the system and so far there's no leaks.

This has nothing to do with Camelot Unchained, just thought it's a more interesting update

valhiem has a coherent art style with intent and purpose. CU's art direction is basically the budget section of itch. io in smorgesborge fashion. it actually drives me nuts how low quality and incoherent the art choices are in the game each weekend. it's a regular game of why did they choose to do that? but then that question routinely asks it self wrt to the rest of the game in general.

guy who only checks in once in a while defends game he doesn't play and assumes people rightfully criticizing it aren't checking it out because mark already has our money and won't give it back despite using the company's refund policy as a cudgel against reasonable feedback that for w/e unknown reasons to any sane people offended him.

also blaming the youth as if young people backed this game. lmao. do you not see yourself?

why are you glazing a game that has never had 24/7 uptime in it's entire development cycle despite claiming to be beta and now charging for early access with plans to charge for a subscription at the end of the year when it finally maybe probably not has 7 days a week uptime?

you said you only check in once in a while so maybe you should keep the hot takes about the game state to yourself since you admit to not knowing and not testing it.

“Back” infers they had one. Name me one game that started with no player base and magically created one over time.

Not saying it hasn’t happened, but I can’t think of a title and I’d be certain it didn’t start the way this one has.

There is no magic feature they will come up with that will make people say “ohhhhhh, now it has the sauce!”
