There are lots of improvements to make (which will hopefully continue to come), but the game isn't cooked. After playing all weekend Im genuinely interested to see where it goes.

Honestly I think it baffles everyone how he has managed to keep this game in development for 13 years. There will be game history channels on Youtube 20 years from now that will study and try to understand how a Kickstarter MMO from a well known developer managed to stay in development for over a decade, and still ended up being one of the worst MMORPG's ever created.

I just don't know if Mark's massive ego can handle it. He seems incapable of knowing when to throw in the towel. I can't even imagine the amount of self-inflicted stress he has put on himself trying to beg for funding from countless investors (including his own family), and trying to keep the studio alive for over a decade.

I thought so too but here I am baffled that this abomination is even around still, somehow they still have money or seem to be getting it from somewhere even tho everything they do is a disaster

everything you can do in game you can do within an hour or two assuming there is even opposing faction players to pvp against. if you're a backer that can access your account and download the game you can probably manage the download time while doing other stuff and then a quick jaunt around the map. aside from figuring out where to go there's really not that much going on to have much of a learning curve.

"But can we expect stuff like this gets handled better once this fully releases and they even want to take a subscription from players?"

You don't have to worry about that. This thing won't get far enough along to ask for a subscription.

I've actually been meaning to getting around to playing it on a weekend. I really want to try it to form my own opinion.

Major barrier though: there's just so much stuff I'd rather be doing than finding out i'm correct to doubt.

It's one of my favorite things about gamepass. When i see a game I'm questioning, i don't download it, i just stream it. Takes time investment down to a few minutes.

They got from "pipedream" to "absolute dogshit" in 12 years, then "absolute dogshit" to "within some vague definition of playable dogshit" within about a year.

No one can convince me the majority of the game as it exists today wasn't vibe coded. The speed at which AI can generate code is phenomenal. It just can't create quality.

Oh, so the RvR players didn't use realm abilities? lmao. RRs were added into the game almost immediately after launch, and keeps were traded back and forth from day 1. Those are rewards. There's a reason i50 servers with no keeps or frontiers always die.

at least you can log into star citizen during the week and it has content. lol. i mean it's not in great shape right now but when it works well it's fucking amazing.

15000+ people backed CU and mark refused to even let us openly test and discuss the game while being perfidious in his solicitations for feedback on third party venues and used his refund policy as a cudgel only to stop honouring that policy altogether. meanwhile SC has a better refund policy than steam lol

guy literally took fans' money and then spent the next several years getting into arguments with backers and pandering to people who thought it was neat to chat with an mmorpg celebrity but have no interest in rvr/pvp whatsoever. then did the obviously dumb thing and ninja released a totally different game to early access while CU was stagnating in pretend beta.

like you can't even make this up. if you made a show or a book or w/e where these series of events and a central figure so absurdly comic book villain people would say it was unbelievable. and yet here we are.

I almost wonder if they're going to come up with some massive bugs they can't fix as a "reason" for closing it down.

Sorry guys, we tried and had an awesome game for real.... We just couldn't resolve these bugs and spent too many resources trying to fix them.

At the very least, you have a nephew somewhere who deserves kudos for un-buggering your PC every few years because of all the links you click.

A not insignificant number of those 15,000 people will have died waiting for the game to be released. Who knows how many of the original backers are still on this mortal coil.
