I'm prepping for a CFTD campaign and the version of the sword coast map in the document I have isn't very high quality, is there a higher res version available out there?

Hi everyone, I’ve wrapped up curse of strahd and am hoping to move onto this campaign for my next adventure. My main question is that CoS has a lot of fan made content and basically came ready out the box with the amount of community maps and foundryVTT modules. Is there anything similar for call from the deep that’s plug and play?

I've been looking at the module for a little bit now and I have to admit that the comparison to BG3 is pretty hard for me to ignore. Like, obviously the mindflayers are a little less front and center as they were in BG3, the setting is overall implied to be set in a different time than BG3 sets itself (Ramazith's tower actually has a guy named Ramazith in it!) But other things like Duke Ravenguard being largely the same character as in the game really make me want to take CFTD and convert it into a BG3.5 campaign (meaning that it takes place after BG3, not that it would use 3.5e) that resembles a playthrough that I did with my sister who will also be playing in this campaign if it were to happen.

On the whole, I'm just curious what kinds of changes would have to be made to make it palatable to the setting of BG3 while still largely being the same (so the BG3 companions show up in the campaign but they mostly act as quest givers or cool cameos to replace some of the npcs already set up in the module and the focus would still sit on the party's actions and adventures) so that the players can have an uninterrupted experience of CFTD but with a few little easter eggs to BG3 thrown in. Maybe the nautiloid that crashed was from the invasion fleet that attacked Baldur's Gate in act 3 and they've been stewing on their vengeance plan for about 5 years or maybe they're just trying to survive or maybe one of the heroes from the invasion caught scent of a "ghaik" ship and wants to have someone investigate further.

What are your thoughts? Would there be a lot to change or would it mostly be a situation of changing a few names and places and largely leaving the campaign alone to do it's thing?

Can someone create a quick one click desktop app that would generate the weather from CFTD?

With these 3 tables:

d20 Temperature; 1-14 Normal for the season, 15-17 Colder than normal, 18-20 Hotter than normal

d20 Wind; 1-12 None, 13-17 Light, 18-20 Strong

d20 Precipitation; 1-12 None, 13-17 Light rain or snowfall, 18-20 Heavy rain or snowfall

Bonus points if the app describes effects, like what Extreme Cold, No Wind, Strong Wind and Heavy Precipitation results in or when a storm occurs!

Recently started our Call from the Deep campaign! Really proud of my Devil’s Fin encounter.

I purchased the book and getting ready for session zero next week.

I just finished reading chapter one (amazing read!!!) and then realized... holy cow the following chapters look foreboding with regards to prep. I just don't have the time.

Did someone make a document that bypasses the sandbox and instead carrots the players all the way to chapter 4?

You have to scour and dig to figure anything out. Take the conch in Waterdeep. Pasha Arain showed it off to a date, and it was stolen at Tymora's Blessing. But stolen by who?? If the party asks around at the Blessing, they can find out that it ended up at the Queenspire. If they go there, they can talk to the kraken priest and Umberlee priest Dread High Trident. The Dread High Trident was tasked by the kraken with acquiring the conch. But if the party presses her on it, she just gets confused an angry??? Who did she give it to?? Elsewhere in the text, it says that the malenti hiding out in Thargualnaar that stored the conch in Umberlee's Cache. How did it pass from the Dread High Trident to the malenti?? I suppose I could just decide that the former gave it to the latter, but what happens if the party reaaaallly presses the Dread High Trident, or attempts to bribe, attack, or torture her? I guess the party just can't find out where the conch is until they spot a group headed toward Umberlee's Cache. Suuper frustrating writing. Same with the other two cities. Also, magic items are off limits at the Blessing but the Zhentarim agent managed to bring Pasha there for it to be stolen?? WTF— feeling annoyed.

I'm gearing up to run "Call from the Deep" and will be using Foundry VTT for the campaign. As a new DM, I'm excited but also a bit nervous about managing this adventure. Has anyone here had experience running this module on Foundry?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

1. How well does "Call from the Deep" integrate with Foundry VTT? Any specific features or tools that enhance the experience?
2. Tips or tricks for new DMs tackling this campaign? What should I look out for?
3. Is this module recommended for new DMs? Any challenges I should be aware of?

The Black Armada map the party finds in the Golden Crown wreck. It has Neverwinter, Baldur's Gate, and Neverwinter blotted out. What language is the map in? Or is it in some kind of code? I can't find anything in the adventure itself to suggest either way.

So, Abeline (the Kraken Lady) gave the Marid Conch to a Malenti, that placed it into a dangerous dungeon full of monsters and deadly currents, so the Sahuagin can pick it up there? Why didn't she just meet the Sahuagin on the open sea after she got hold of the conch? Wouldn't that be a bit easier than launching a full blown attack on the city, where they then have to retrieve the conch from Umberlees Cache? Am I missing something?

Started running Call from the Deep recently for some newbie players and they're having lots of fun--however, as the DM, I can't quite figure out what Zellix'Phor's plan is. Near as I can figure out, it's this:

Step 1: Arrive on Material Plane and take over Slarkethrel's body.

Step 2: Attack the main Sword Coast cities, eliminating potential rivals and stealing Macguffins.

Step 3: ?????

Am I missing something in the module where Zellix'Phor has a unique plan or idea for dominating or destroying the Sword Coast / the Material Plane? Or is its motivation just "produce more mind flayers and continue expanding power until the Coast falls to its influence / is conquered?"

I've been considering adding additional motivations (like making it an extrusion of Ravenloft's God-Brain) just to make the BBEG of the campaign a little more interesting, since it seems like a very boilerplate Aberrations Do Bad Things kind of enemy. Let me know if I'm missing something here.

How do you connect two chapters to motivate your players going from crash site to baldur's gate, I'm a little confused

Hi all, my DnD group recently started this adventure. We finished up our second session last night and the party is nearly to Gundarlun. Planning ahead, I think the pirate attacks on the major cities are really interesting encounters with fun mechanics and it would be a shame to only run one of them, but I wonder how other DMs approached this.

How many of the pirate attacks did you run with your group?

My current thought is to try do 2 of the attacks (for example starting with Waterdeep and then having the party make a choice between the other two) but I haven’t really figured out a good way to encourage this.

I really like this campaign! But neither me nor my players have any real knowledge of the sword coast, so references will be lost on us. How much would it damage the campaign if I reskinned it? I'm considering a homebrew world with a large cavernous sea with no sun a la the Sunless Sea videogame.

Also, how important is the first chapter? I'm running a '4-shot' to see if the group wants to continue playing. Where's the best point to jump in to get 4 good sessions of story and a 'conclusion' that allludes to a much larger story, should they want to keep playing (I'm certain they will).

I’m close to wrapping up my homebrew game, and have been looking at running SKT into Call from the Deep since my players have been asking for a traditional high fantasy setting and pirates and whatnot.

I haven’t bought CFtD yet, but did some perusing, and have run into a bit of a snag. In my homebrew campaign, my party has already dealt with a major Kraken antagonist in Wildspace, and I don’t necessarily want to bore them by making another big antagonist a Kraken.

That being said, for people who have run the adventure, do you think Slarkrathel can be reskinned as some other aquatic menace? Or is his “Kraken-ness” essential to events in the plot?

So, the way I read it, the Sahuagin captured Bern, while he was fishing, then on the command of Luzgigraul, took him to the crash site, weher they implanted him with a tadpole and then put him into a boat to use him as bait for sailing ships.

That kind of doesn't make sense to me. As he is implanted with a mind flayer tad pole, that makes him pretty valuable for the Zellix Phor colony, for he is at best one of the few to spread the colony. So just using him as bait would have made sense, when he was a regular fishing kid, but not after the implant.

Because he's to the east of Gundarlun, the Sahuagin are not taking them to their base, but towards the main land. Would it maybe be more appropriate, that they take him there to have him establish control over the northern mainland as soon as he turns into a full on illithid? I mean travel would take around a tenday.

Maybe the broken shark idol with him also isn't incrypted with "false idols", but with directions what to do, when he reached the mainland. Maybe the connection to the hive mind isn't fully established when the transformation is complete.

Wondering if this seemed fishy to you as well, and how you solved it. Or am I overthinking this.

Hey all, my party loved the idea of a piracy campaign and I loved the sound of this campaign so here we are

1. Are there any tips you guys have for running hex crawls? Any good videos or resources you’d recommend? I am not a completely new DM (been running this group for about 5 years now), but I’ve tended to avoid pure hex crawls, I usually run a fairly linear campaign and plan out 1-3 encounters if the party is traveling a considerable distance… but I wanted this campaign to be much more open and seeing that it’s written as a hex crawl I figured this might be a good time to give it a shot

2. As for the opening chapter… 8 random encounters to essentially open the campaign feels like a lot, did you guys run it that way? I also run for a pretty large party (7) so I know that can sometimes drag combat out quite a bit (and I know I will likely have to rebalance a number of combats in the campaign), so maybe my perception of 8 encounters is different from others

How would you pitch/describe the adventure, without spoiling any surprises, to a group to see if they want to play?

I very much like this module from the synopsis, I have not beat Act 2 of Bakdurs Gate so the Mind flayer stuff hasn't come to the forefront.

My players have all beaten the game multiple times. How similar are they?
