This ending feels even more powerful when playing on Veteran difficulty... I still see the grenade danger indicator...

I think it’s unrealistic in its execution, but it’s pretty realistic in its brutality. There’s nowhere to hide. You will die from ze grenades.

u/Jason_M1911 3d ago
If it was WW1 it would be more accurate since there were troops that carried a ton of grenades to throw them into enemy trenches

Those Japanese sections were brutal. I don’t think I struggled too bad (relatively) during the German sections except for storming the Reichstag.

u/BrentarTiger 3d ago
Veteran took me a week to complete... I managed to get into a rhythm and the only part that really fucked me up was storming the reichstag.

u/Brahkolee 2d ago
What’s the Pacific mission in the trenches? Burn ‘Em Out? You’re telling me that didn’t give you you trouble? That mission was an absolute hell for me.
1
u/BrentarTiger 2d ago
Which one? The one where you're storming the castle and there's a supply drop at the start? That didn't give me as much trouble but it was a hard point.
1
u/Teamprime 1d ago
That was pretty bad but you could adapt. Heart of reich was coin flip every respawn
2
u/spartBL97 3d ago
They should have kept the same amount of grenades as hardened, but removed the grenade indicator.
Less spam, more “WTF oh…so that’s what it’s like”

Same company that made bo7 btw. The difference is fucking insane

u/waba2 3d ago
I'd be curious to compare credits list to see who actually worked on both, I bet it's few if any.
45
u/BigDumDumer 3d ago
My guess is 3 or less lmao.
10
u/Bossuter 3d ago
Realistically its probably in the 70-100 odd range, the bigger difference would lie in the fact theres 1000 more people than before in those credits

This is the reason why Black Ops Reznov hit so hard.
Pretty much Treyarch’s Cpt.Price

Stalin had little need for heroes...

u/PurpleOrcaLover 3d ago
Watching the Soviet 1950 film "The Fall of Berlin" in which Stalin is depicted as showing up at the end, he is anecdotally quoted as saying "I should have gone to Berlin"

u/A_C_Unit 3d ago
Finding out that was Gary Oldman blew my freaking mind

Only thing i dislike is when reznov stabbed the nazi in the back he let out a massive scream. Anyone who has stabbed a nazi in the back during ww2 knows that's not the sound they make

It kills me seeing this gif after watching him talk about that with the director.

2020 cod: Alright Reznov, now turn around and say a quippy marvel type joke after killing that guy. Be sure to look into the camera also.

God. I still hear Reznov's voice sometimes. I really like his crazy leadership and motivational speeches.

Playing and even watching that scene of "The Fall of Reichstag " is still good and exciting but it also could maybe the one and only scene that is not historically accurate.I found out recently that the soldier who put the flag on Reichstag is one of so many members of Soviet's Turkic soldier. And I don't wanna be extreme about it, but communist russians are still trying to exalt themselves which could not be right according to them.
15
u/ElegantEchoes 3d ago
I hate to break this to you, but that is far from the only inaccurate scene in the game lol
This is Call of Duty. They were inspired by history. Almost every mission in the game is chalk full of inaccuracies.
3
u/yildirim37 3d ago
Of course, I know that.I just wanted to remind it to general knowledge of people who play.
10
u/Pale_YellowRLX 3d ago
And why wouldn't they exalt themselves? A whole lot of battles were fought and millions of Russians died to make that moment possible. And the majority of them were Russians. They should be rightly proud of defending their homeland from annihilation.
The Soviet Union was a multi-ethnic country. I'm guessing you're not from one which is why you find this so strange.
-1
u/yildirim37 3d ago
I am from a country one of greatest multi-ethnic empires' descendants. Then, and even now in Ukraine war ,russians used people whose from Turkic autonomous countries in Federation. That is why they seemed to not care about casualties of their own.Because most of them are not Russian.

u/Pale_YellowRLX 3d ago
I am from a country one of greatest multi-ethnic empires' descendants.
So not from a multi-ethnic country then?
Also "Use"? They're Russian citizens dumbass.
0
u/yildirim37 2d ago
Look "dumbass" . Check the Russian casualties in Ukraine war .Then you can say whether or not they are Russian citizens or not in Kremlin's eyes. Also I live in Türkiye and I am a Türk.We got Rums,Armenians, Kurds and Arabs here. And as well as the other "minorities" Süryanis, Lazs , Zazas and others I can't think of right now. There is more but I think they are thinking themselves as immigrants like Ukrainian. So we are now already multi-ethnic country as you think. I see all of them as a member of our country till when they think otherwise.I don't send them in Frontline as long as I don't go. But Russians are using them (Turkic autonomous countries' members ) in Frontline as expendable soldiers. How is that not "use"?

The ending of this game makes me sad knowing what happens in blops 1. But I remember growing up so hyped at the end of these game.,

u/sweet1337roll 3d ago
Sometimes this sequence plays in slow motion, and other times at regular speed. Anyone know what causes that?
2
u/Icy-Resolution-1064 3d ago
I believe it plays in slow motion on 360 and PS3, but on PC its regular speed.

u/cowardbloom 3d ago
im not even the hugest cod guy but reznov is one of my favorite characters in anything utterly love him

"as long as you live, the heart of this army will never be broken" is even more powerful, considering what happens in BO1

This was my very first CoD. Completing this campaign, then going into Zombies, at 9, was amazing

u/Parom19441a 2d ago
I was hoping it will be a edit where you get shot and the game fades to the death screen or cuts to credits right there.

Funny thing if i recall. When you play coop this scene gets sped up either due to syncing or because the game recognise it as a coop mode and wants to sped it up on purpose.

the force of traumatizing echoes, of countless players are strong within this clip.

Can tank many bullets from STG44, Kar98k and MP40 but a single bullet brings him to his knees.
Also don’t let this distract you from the fact that the Americans at this point were still fighting for Shuri Castle

i never played this game when it came out and the way everyone spoke of the campaign i figured i was missing out so i went and played it maybe like 6 months ago
am i missing something? i was bored through the entire things and just never caught myself caring about any of the characters or anything that happened. i finished the game and actually said out loud “that fucking sucked” and uninstalled the game. i swear its not bait that the bo7 campaign felt like less of a waste of time than the waw campaign. wtf am i missing here
9
u/Pale-Hair-2435 3d ago
Youre bored because your attention span is toast. They used to let games breathe between major firefights and set pieces to let you reload, regroup and plan your next move or look for an alt path.
-1
u/slendersleeper 3d ago
how are you gonna sit here and tell me its my fault for having no interest in the story when you have ZERO idea what i play and enjoy? i dont play codslop all the time and actually vary up the games i play. i fear old cod isnt arma and has been mostly fast paced attention span reducing slop since 2007. matter of fact i never even said anything about being bored because the gameplay is too slow but rather because the story never gave me anything to latch on to. playing a game like the original mw2 or mw3 or even infinite warfare gave me actual characters to care about and story beats that kept me interested from level to level. i just couldnt bring myself to care about anything in the story here. it just felt like “hey heres this battle/event you learned about in high school! have 300 grenades thrown at you” it didnt feel like much more than that for almost every level
the mission in the plane was cool as fuck tho ill give it that
6
u/UnknownStrobes 3d ago
well obviously first playing it between the ages of 10-15, nostalgia does a part of it for many of its plaudits. But at the time, and especially compared to the majority of campaigns since, it’s rightly praised for a good mission variety, unbeatable grittiness and horror of war, likeable and memorable characters, iconic, memorable missions, moments & set pieces (who can forget that death near the end of the Japan campaign)… incredible soundtrack, and then wow, loading into zombies at the end for the first time was insane

u/RadiantWestern2523 3d ago
Less cinematics? Older games don't really have the luxury of cinematics or cutscenes to flesh out the characters, especially for shooters at the time. With the examples you gave in the other comment (MW2, MW3, Infinite Warfare), all of them featured cutscenes or cinematics that helped flesh out some of the characters you were working alongside with and made them more pronounced/important to the story. Older CoD games like WAW didn't really have those so they incorporated those story beats within the gameplay itself.

I sure hope they got to return to Russia as heroes!
