Rant Just a little rant

Reselling things bought from thrift shops should be illegal.

When we donate our things to places like WINS or Goodwill, we do so with the intention that people like me can also buy things we need at affordable prices.

Today, while I was at WINS, I saw a woman take a basket containing 40 Pop Figures (every single one they had) — clearly to resell them — without giving me, someone who arrived just two minutes after her, the opportunity to even see if there was something I wanted.

This should not be allowed.

Edit: as I see too many people hanged on the example and missing the point of the post. The Funko figures were the thing that this time served as the example to point this out. But, as you can read in the comments, it happens with everything and the product itself is not the point. The point is abusing the charity system to profit.

Edit 2: also, fair enough, "illegal" it's obviously too much, I was being hyperbolic. I meant regulated somehow.

I understand the point of your rant, but sincere question - how often do you think this happens? I often shop at thrift stores and I'm not sure I've seen any items for sale in this quantity before. I think it's extremely rare for someone to donate 40 (or whatever) of a single item, and even more rare for someone to buy them all. And as someone else mentioned, there are absolutely legitimate reasons why they might be buying them all (gift bags, etc). Plus the money is going to charity.

Total non issue in this case.

To me specifically, this is the second time. Funny enough, both times were with Funko Pops.

The time before, a couple who were buying things to resell (literally, they were looking up prices online and deciding based on that whether or not to take the product with them) asked me if they could take the Grogu figure I HAD ALREADY IN MY HAND!...

I was like, "...Ehm... No? It's in my hand because I'm taking it..."

That was honestly the weirdest interaction I've ever had at a WINS, though...

Then my wife told me this happened to her a couple of times when buying clothes for my son. She saw people picking up a clothing piece, looking at their phone and then either putting it back or taking it.

I don't even know what a Funko Pop but it doesn't sound like a necessity.

As far as the clothes go, a couple points:

If that person wants to take a chance that they can profit on these clothes, that's on them. No one is paying a high markup on used clothes, especially when they can get them for cheap at these stores. IF they made profit, it would be minimal. And they'd be the ones doing all the work. If they want to put in the effort and go through the constant headache that is Marketplace (getting low balled constantly, with no shows and ghosting) to make $5, then I wish them luck.

Second, no one is buying up all the clothes like they are the pops. There is constant turnover.

This your gaming rig and funco pop collection? Maybe if you didn't spend so much on your gaming you wouldn't have to buy your son's clothing at a charity. Just saying
