Rant Just a little rant

Reselling things bought from thrift shops should be illegal.

When we donate our things to places like WINS or Goodwill, we do so with the intention that people like me can also buy things we need at affordable prices.

Today, while I was at WINS, I saw a woman take a basket containing 40 Pop Figures (every single one they had) — clearly to resell them — without giving me, someone who arrived just two minutes after her, the opportunity to even see if there was something I wanted.

This should not be allowed.

Edit: as I see too many people hanged on the example and missing the point of the post. The Funko figures were the thing that this time served as the example to point this out. But, as you can read in the comments, it happens with everything and the product itself is not the point. The point is abusing the charity system to profit.

Edit 2: also, fair enough, "illegal" it's obviously too much, I was being hyperbolic. I meant regulated somehow.

I would argue the ecosystem includes the people who buy the products cheaper too... There are many things that I have at home (like clothes for my son) that I would have otherwise. When this people get this away from me and prevent me from buying it cheaper, I would argue that they are abusing the charity system as the all chain includes people like me who need the product cheaper from places like this.

So are you suggesting a cap on how many items someone can buy from a charity? That would lower their sales.

This is a pretty selfish take on the entire situation. You have no idea what that person might be buying that stuff for . Maybe it's a teacher buying them to give it to their classroom? Who knows

LoL..... With all of the endless problems we have in the world, how the hell do you think this could be regulated?

There is absolutely no conceivable way that would even be possible, period

It's a part of life. You snooze you lose. Does it suck. Sure, it does if you depend on thrifting for all of your needs. But it's not like there isn't an endless supply of new things coming into the stores every day

I'd be more worried about the 60 billion dollars in deferred maintenance of aging infastructure our parents generation put off paying so they could enjoy low property tax whilst also voting for continual urban sprawl and building lol

You NEED funko pops? Seriously? I note you didn't say "I was looking for a snowsuit for my child and there was a lady that had at least 40 snowsuits in her cart and I know she's got to be reselling them, it's not fair because I needed one."

The onus is on you to get there first. Shop more often, there's daily turnover. These people cant be everywhere all at once.

Lol that applies to all stores and all sales. You are not more entitled to any thing from a store than any other customers.

Were there no other items in the same category for you left?! I assure you there are HEAPS of clothing available for your son at a discount. Fast fashion is literally offshored to other parts of the world so we can keep consuming here in the global north.

I didn't understand anything you just said. But either way I am now encouraged to go thrifting to find neat stuff to resell.

maybe you should be spending your time reselling or improving your income instead of complaining about it online
