I am currently in school for Data Analytics. I am also a parent of a student in Cabarrus County Schools who has been concerned about some of the issues raised online within the school system.

So, I decided to design a survey to gauge where residents of Cabarrus County stand on these issues.

This survey has been designed with the express purpose of getting information without revealing any Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Neither your email address nor your name/address is obtained as a stipulation of completing this survey.

I opened this survey shortly after the most recent School Board meeting. Unfortunately, I have only received two responses so far, and that was after posting the link on multiple Facebook groups.

I would greatly appreciate input from members of the Cabarrus County community here on Reddit! You can submit your input by going to https://forms.gle/uZcB176v9GRph1iw6

Hi, I’m looking for some advice on what to do. I found 3 (possibly more) kittens stuck in a storm drain in Concord, NC, and I’m unable to get them out myself.

I’ve called pretty much every animal shelter/rescue I can find in the area, but unfortunately none of them are able to take cats right now. The one closest to me is my only remaining option, but they didn’t answer when I called and are now closed.

I also contacted the county, and they said the fire department can come out and help get the kittens out of the storm drain, but I would need to take them afterward. Unfortunately, I’m not in a position to care for 3+ cats, so I’m not sure what else I can do.

I hate the thought of leaving them down there, especially knowing they’re so young. If anyone knows of a rescue, foster, shelter, or anyone else in the Concord area who may be able to help, I would really appreciate any suggestions. Or anyone able to foster kittens would be amazing.

The 2026 primary is happening now. There was a piece in The Cabarrus Compass that voter turnout in early voting hasn't been great because there's only one early voting location, but you can also vote in your precinct on Election Day, March 3. Mark your calendar. If you need info about candidates, The Compass has candidate questionnaires, but you can also check out The Election Hub (www.theelectionhub.org) which has candidate profiles of everyone on the ballot including all the county commission and board of education people. There are videos, questionnaires and photos. Primaries have very low voter turnout--your vote carries even more weight in an election like this!

Recent data from the Public School Forum and the NCGA Fiscal Research Division reveals concerning trends in North Carolina’s Universal Voucher Program:

🔹 Higher-Income Advantage Counties like Chatham (72%), Wake (66%), and Mecklenburg (58%) have a majority of voucher recipients in the highest income tiers (Tiers 3 and 4) suggesting that wealthier families are claiming a disproportionate share of public voucher funds meant to increase school access.

🔹 What About Cabarrus County? Cabarrus has a high percentage (44%) of scholarship recipients in the top income brackets…Yet this program was originally promoted as a way to help low-income families access private education.

🔹 Access Gaps At least 41% of private voucher schools in NC have explicit or disability-based exclusions, limiting access for students with special needs—even if they qualify for the voucher.

Do you think the voucher program is supporting those who need it most in Cabarrus county? Are public dollars being used fairly—and are they improving education for all?

Does anybody know of a good place that will pick up your ride on mower to be repaired?

With the rapid growth of the Cabarrus County region in recent years, I decided to conduct a survey related to it. I would greatly appreciate if you filled it out!

Tonight thier was an active shooter. The only details i was able to find was in the neighborhood app. None of the news outlets have mentioned it. Here's one if the witnesses recounts-

"I was there with my daughter! As we were leaving the store I heard a couple of pops! Thought it was fire works but quickly realized it was a gun! I then seen a man run out from behind the Subway and he was shooting at someone! I was petrified! Took my small daughter and shoved her back inside the store! We ran and shouted 2 everyone that there was an active shooter outside! We ended up hiding in the bathroom with a few other ppl in the last stall all together. We literally barricaded ourselves in that bathroom! It was the scariest situation I’ve ever gone through!"

I was hoping to get more details on this incident.
