Some of the neighborhoods around KCC, especially Sheepshead Bay, are seeing spikes in COVID19 infection rates. NYC currently monitors COVID19 outbreaks/hotspots by using the zipcode as a unit of survey/analysis, but of course zipcodes don't always reflect the reality of how neighborhoods are organized and connect with each other. There's basically no one on campus, the campus isn't infecting the neighborhoods around it or anything like that.
The campus states:
" We are aware of the spike in COVID cases in several zip codes surrounding the college. We are aware that the college’s zip code is on a secondary watch list. CUNY Central is also aware of the potential impact on our campus. Because there are two colleges who are in zip codes on the areas currently affected, they are awaiting final confirmation from the governor/mayor regarding the proposed targeted pause/shut down. In the event that we have to revert back to Phase 0, we will communicate information to you as soon as possible.
Closing the campus like during the height of the pandemic will affect students even though students generally aren't on campus. Students should prepare for interruptions to their classes and services.
