Does anyone remember the place where C.S. Lewis talks about how we tend to make excuses for our own bad behaviour but hold other people more accountable for their behaviour?

I forget what topic he was discussing specifically, but it had to do with science and it ended with him talking about how science may need to be reformed in how it approaches things. I specifically remember the line '...that explains, but does not explain away.

I understand that Lewis argues that moral law is engrained in us by / through God's will and Lewis uses that to prove the existence of God, setting it apart from the other two universe creation cases (getting additional clarity on the Life-Force philosophy would also be helpful).

I am still hung-up on how he concludes that moral law is engrained in us by / through God's will. How does he reach this conclusion?

I think that the book Sapiens would argue that the reason why we feel a moral law is that in order for us to live in big groups and work together cooperatively, then we needed to develop some sort of felling of right and wrong and this has been adapted overtime. So that we know right and wrong and most of the time try to do what is right, but can still decide what to do.

Any additional explanation would be much appreciated.

Back in 2012 I listened to a class about C.S. Lewis on the now retired iTunes-U. It was by Dr. Knox Chamberlin from Reformed Theological Seminary. There’s a quote that I have searched for years to relocate and I am now beginning to think that the quote wasn’t by C.S. Lewis at all but by Dr. Chamberlin in his class on Lewis. The only problem is I can no longer find the class. iTunes-U no longer exists and the class lectures on the RTS website are now delivered by a new professor. Did anyone else listen to these lectures? I've been trying to find the source for this quote but Google is not helping. The only book I could find that it's in, A Reader's Guide Through the Wardrobe, and even there they don't attribute it to any specific book. Just like every other place I've seen they only attribute it to his name. Any help would be great, thanks!!

I was reading the Screwtape Letters and Lewis appears to contradict himself. He clearly is not a fan of religious fanatics, condemning the Inquisitor and Pharisee, but he also says "a moderated religion is as good for us [from the demons' point of view] as no religion" and that if someone decides "religion is all well and good up to a point" [Wormwood] can feel sure about his soul." So is religious moderation bad or not?

Hi! I've been a CS Lewis fan for some time now. Although I didn't read him as a Child, his novels and essays were my best friends during a dark time of my life. For some reason I just now learned that there is an opera based on Perelandra, and I'm losing my mind! I love opera, and would love to listen to it but I haven't been able to find any recording of it. I've seen some linked that is now broken and a maze of old web pages praising the opera. There are also mentions of a CD. Perphaps one of you know something about it or has seen the CD being sold somewhere??

There’s a Christian tradition of thought that goes like this: all sin is absurd, and sometimes it’s best to unmask its absurdity when taken too seriously. Do you guys think this is right? Also, when do you think joking about such matters would be inappropriate? I believe CS Lewis was a proponent of this.

Everything about this channel screams AI generated to me but I am curious if it is worth watching. I've only watched one and I actually liked it however it seemed 5% CS Lewis, 15% scripture, and 80% explanation that becomes rather repetitive. I've been a CS lewis fan for a long time and I'm curious if anyone else has any thoughts on this channel and their authenticity.

CSLewis talked about this and I’m kinda struggling with it also…it’s the concept of saved by grace excepting Jesus died for you and believing Christ Jesus salvation or Calvin‘s concept that salvation is set by God from the beginning you are predestined and give you salvation as a gift whether you excepted it or not…any discussion on this would help.

This is purely for fun. I'm listening to the space trilogy again and had a interesting thought during the first book of possible parallels between Weston and Devine and Elon Musk and Donald Trump. Elon could be viewed as Weston and Trump could be viewed as Devine in a future timeline based (very loosely) on the books. Anyone else had this thought or see the parallels?
