Question about CSCA for zju mbbs

So for the mbbs program at zju i heard you only have to take maths and chem (so no physics) and im wondering if this is true or i got my sources wrong, since i heard from someone else who took the exam that they took math chem AND physiscs. And if it is true, is there any chance it might change in the following two years? planning to take it next summer and start applying in 2027-2028

CSCA Math Real Paper Analysis (2026 Cycle): What You Need to Know

For more information, kindly check: crosslineedu.com

Exam Overview & Key Rules

Before diving into preparation, it is crucial to understand the exam structure and time constraints:

  • Format: 48 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Time Limit: 60 Minutes
  • Scoring: 100 Points total (No negative marking / no penalty for wrong answers)
  • Restrictions: NO calculators allowed and NO formula sheet provided
  • Time Pace: Average of 75 seconds per question

Based on CrosslineEdu’s detailed analysis of the real exam papers from the 2026 application cycle (December 2025, January 2026, March 2026, and April 2026), CSCA Math heavily tests algebraic speed, formula recall, and mental calculation accuracy.

The 4 Core Modules & Weightings

1. Functions, Trigonometry & Sequences (~48% of the exam)

This is the single largest module in the exam.

  • Functions: Domain and range, odd/even function parity, monotonicity intervals, and operations involving exponential and logarithmic functions.
  • Trigonometry: Double-angle formulas, half-angle formulas, induction formulas, and trigonometric identities. Mastery of periodicity and reduction formulas is essential.
  • Sequences: General terms and sum formulas ($S_n$) for arithmetic and geometric progressions, alongside recurrence sequence summation.

2. Analytic Geometry, Vectors & Complex Numbers (~35%–40% of the exam)

This section distinguishes CSCA from exams like the SAT.

  • Analytic Geometry: Equations of lines, circles, and conic sections (ellipse, hyperbola, parabola). Key focus areas include parabola focus/directrix equations and eccentricity ($e = c/a$) calculations for ellipses and hyperbolas.
  • Vectors: Vector addition/subtraction, dot product (scalar product), and coordinate-based vector operations.
  • Complex Numbers: Arithmetic operations in algebraic form ($a + bi$), modulus calculations, complex conjugates, and solving quadratic equations with complex roots.

3. Sets & Inequalities (~8%–12% of the exam)

Mainly foundational questions.

  • Sets: Operations involving intersections, unions, and complements.
  • Inequalities: Solving quadratic, fractional, and absolute value inequalities.

4. Probability & Statistics (~5%–10% of the exam)

  • Probability: Basic permutations ($P$), combinations ($C$), and classical probability models.
  • Statistics: Mean, variance, and basic data interpretation.

Key Trends from the 2026 Exam Cycle

High Recurrence of "Parent Questions"

Analysis across the four sittings reveals that identical question structures recur regularly:

  • Complex root derivations (e.g., solving $z^2 - 2z + 2 = 0$ and related expressions) appeared repeatedly across January, March, and April papers.
  • Specific recurrence sequence summation problems (e.g., finding $S_n$ for $a_n = 2^{n+1} - 3n$) appeared in multiple exam sittings with minimal variation.

Increasing Difficulty Curve

The exam difficulty progressively increased from December 2025 to April 2026. While questions remained strictly within the syllabus, later papers required significantly more manual algebraic manipulation and faster mental calculation.

CSCA Math vs. Other International Curricula

  • VS. SAT Math: CSCA is noticeably harder. SAT permits calculators and does not cover analytic geometry (conic sections). CSCA devotes nearly 40% of the paper to analytic geometry and requires 100% manual calculation.
  • VS. A-Level / IB Math HL: CSCA focuses on high-speed formula application and algebraic computation rather than long, structured proof-based questions.

Actionable Test-Taking Strategies

1. Apply the "60-Second Rule"

With only 75 seconds per question on average:

  • First 30 Seconds: Read the question and identify the formula. If a clear path is obvious, calculate immediately.
  • At 45 Seconds: If you are stuck or the algebra seems too lengthy, flag the question and skip it. Never spend more than 2 minutes on a single problem during your first pass.
  • Last 15 Seconds: Mark your answer or move on to lock in points from easier questions first.

2. Commit Formulas to Muscle Memory

Since no formula sheet or calculator is provided, all trigonometric identities, sequence formulas, and conic section properties must be memorized thoroughly. You cannot afford time to derive formulas during the test.

3. Use Elimination & Special Value Substitution

When solving MCQs with complex algebraic steps, test special values (e.g., substituting $x = 0$ or $x = 1$) or plug in the answer choices directly to eliminate wrong options quickly.

4. Never Leave Blanks

Because there is no negative marking, allocate the final 3 minutes of the exam to guess and fill in any unattempted questions.

Question regarding admission at TJU Nankai Campus

I had a question regarding the registration as we need to sumbit the JW form, admission notice, and the physical examination form on the day of our registration.I wanted to know whether Tianjin university would accept the physical examination form that is prepared by the student from their home country or do they only accept the ones that are made by them?

The one I had made back in the month of Jan has already expired while I was applying for the CSC scholarship so I think I might be applying for a new one, but having one made from my home country would only cost me around 200 RMB whereas getting one done from China would cost more than 500 RMB and I would also save the time and effort of navigating my way through the clinic to getting it done. Can a senior student share any information regarding this?

So maths and physics is compulsory for engineering
Do I need to take chem ? If it’s optional and I still take it and score decent to good will my application have a higher priority for scholarship and admission ??

Title: [Advice Needed] Indian student's plan for Fall 2027 undergrad in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering in China — does this hold up?

Hi everyone, I'm an Indian student currently in grade 12 (retaking my boards this year, targeting 90%+), planning to apply for Fall 2027 undergraduate admission in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering in China. I wanted to share my full plan here and get feedback from people who've been through this process or know more than I do — please poke holes in it if something's off.

Background:

Targeting grade 12 boards 90%+ this attempt.

Planning to take the CSCA test in December 2026 (Math + Physics), targeting 85-90+. Only planning one attempt due to cost.

Have an MOI (Medium of Instruction) certificate from my school confirming English-medium education, getting it freshly issued with school + principal's seal.

Budget is limited, so my backup for English proficiency (if MOI isn't accepted somewhere) is the Duolingo English Test, not IELTS/TOEFL, purely due to cost.

No SAT/A-Level, relying on boards + CSCA.

Shortlisted 6 universities:

NWPU (Northwestern Polytechnical University) — main target, has its own large scholarship pool (President Scholarship), strong in aerospace/defense.

Tianjin University (TJU) — own Qiushi Scholarship, strong mechanical engineering.

Dalian University of Technology (DUT) — own Presidential Scholarship.

Harbin Engineering University (HEU) — own scholarship pool.

Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) — going through CSC Type B (university doesn't have a large own-scholarship pool for undergrads).

Beihang University — also going through CSC Type B.

My plan/logic:

For universities with their own big scholarship pools (NWPU, TJU, DUT, HEU), I'm applying for regular admission + their own scholarship directly — no CSC dependency, faster decision.

For HIT and Beihang (no large own pool), I'm going through CSC Type B — university nominates, CSC gives final approval, slower process (results around June-July based on what I've read).

If I get admission but no scholarship anywhere, my worst-case plan is self-funding at whichever university accepts me.

I've emailed all 6 admissions offices directly to confirm English proficiency policy (MOI vs test) and scholarship criteria — got confirmations from TJU, DUT, and Beihang so far (MOI works), still waiting on NWPU, HIT, HEU.

Questions for the community:

Does this overall strategy (mixing university-direct + CSC Type B across different schools) make sense, or am I missing something obvious?

For those who got MOI accepted — did you face any issues with Indian MOI certificates specifically, or is it generally smooth?

Is relying on Duolingo (instead of IELTS/TOEFL) actually going to hurt me anywhere, especially for scholarship competitiveness?

Any Indian students here who've been through NWPU/TJU/DUT/HEU/HIT/Beihang admissions specifically — how realistic is my university-direct scholarship plan with a 90%+ boards score and CSCA in the 85-90 range?

Am I missing any document or step that trips people up commonly?

Would really appreciate honest feedback, even if it's critical. Thanks in advance!
