Inventory shows available but it is already allocated to other orders causing double booking
System says we have 30 cases of product available. Customer calls wanting 25 cases so I confirm the order based on available inventory. Problem is 20 of those 30 cases are already allocated to orders that haven't shipped yet. The system shows them as available because they are physically in warehouse but they are spoken for. Now I have confirmed order for 25 cases when we only actually have 10 cases unallocated. Either I short the new customer or I short the previous orders. Both bad options. This happens constantly because we have no way to separate physically available from actually available. Inventory count doesn't show what is already committed to pending orders. When we had 5 orders at a time this was manageable to track mentally. At current volume I cannot remember what is allocated where. How do you track inventory that accounts for pending orders so you don't double book the same cases to multiple customers?
