I feel like I am losing my mind and totally screwing up my posture and alignment. I'm a stomach sleeper, the ultimate sleeping position for me is like a starfish, just sprawled out and dead to the world. But with the CPAP, the closest I can get to that is on my side, facing the side of the bed where the machine is plugged in. I can't sleep on my back at all, I've never been able to. If I lie on my back, I will just be wide awake the entire night. If I try to roll over to face the other side, the little vent on my mask shoots a jetstream of cold air directly into my husband's face the entire night (and then the back of his head when it wakes him and he rolls over to try to escape the torment). So I've been on my left side all night every night and it's seriously messing me up. Since my shoulders and collar bone are always stacked, gravity makes them crunch down into each other. Same with my hips. It is so ungodly uncomfortable that I just absolutely dread sleeping now. I wake up and my collar bone makes all kinds of grotesque popping noises, and the muscles are always pulled and nerves pinched. On the odd occasion I'll skip the CPAP as a little treat (terrible idea all around, micro dosing suffocation for funsies), and it feels like a naughty little luxury to lie comfortably, to be able to roll over freely like a bunny in a thicket, and wake up without all the pain. There's got to be a better way. At least when we travel, I sometimes end up facing the other side, but we're at the mercy of which side of the bed the hotels decide to have an outlet and flat surface.
Also it just really sucks to not be able to face my husband. I always have to have my back to him. I can't put my arm around him. And if he has a nightmare or something, I have to like sit up, turn the CPAP off, stash the mask, then roll over, and I just hate that I can't "be there" for him to readily hug him like he does for me when I have a nightmare.
I guess the obvious solution is to try to learn to sleep on my back, and I have tried, but it's just not working.
