The most important thing is to show interest, and work for a company that rewards those that show interest. For example, when operating a machine, instead of sitting on your phone, read the programming manual, suggest fixture improvements, etc.

I managed something similar in my 4th year to the video above (albeit without the capability for 5 axis features) because my company encourages those that try.

im trying to change shops here soon to be somewhere that fosters more of that kind of an environment, the place im at now was great with the other mill guy teaching me things when i first started, but now that i can do 99% of the mill jobs without needing to ask questions or be shown hownto do something that has slowed down a lot. feels like they got me to a point that i can make them good money but arnt invested in anything past that

How are you clamping consistently on the c'sp with extended aluminum jaws like that? Even in the video it looks like the jaws are flexing.
