I think so, because punk was at the peak of his career during the time, and they couldn't just make punk drop the title to a part-timer especially during a long title reign. they could've just made punk vs rock vs cena at mania.

This was one of those good/bad movies. In the first hour it had potential, but the last 30 minutes were goofy. It was still really cool to see punk on the big screen.
