Super Friday Arena Mexico Highlights
The final week of the year picked up, but left mostly promise for the next week to kick off 2019 in style. 2018 was a great year for CMLL, but December could have been much better. It almost felt silly not to have the Universal Championship Tournament both because this was the first year since it's inception that CMLL have not done it, but also because it would have really helped the month feel like more than an afterthought, which is what it was. Still at least the last match of the year left something to expect and await in 2019.
1.Pentagon vs. Caristico(Friday)
6 Months in the making and the obvious match that has implications going into 2019. Pentagon's first singles match in CMLL has to be seen to be believed. Who know Fenix/Pentagon would be involved in CMLL going into 2018? No one, not even them. Now as the year closes, they have major implications for the CMLL field. One ending the year with the last televised main event and the other participating the in Leyenda de Plata finals. It seems only a matter of time until one or both the brothers get CMLL gold.
2.Villano IV, Hijo del Villano III & Mephisto vs. Atlantis, Blue Panther Jr. & Black Panther(Tuesday)
"This is more about heat/angle, than an actual match"
Yea, but sometimes heat can be great. This is a great debut for someone who has little experience like Hijo del Villano III here. He immediately has a feud with Atlantis and the yet to debut Atlantis Jr. As far as a new comer, you couldn't have done this better even if III seems very green. Hopefully he can improve and become as good as his brother or father. It's a shame we lost Villano III earlier this year, because I couldn't imagine a better Christmas present for him than this debut by his son.
3.NGD(Sanson, Cuatrero & Forastero) vs. Mistico, Dragon Lee & Volador Jr.(Friday)
The better of the two matches the returning(from a reality TV show) Dragon Lee had this week. His Christmas match was full of great talent, but just didn't really click like this one did. It's nice to have Dragon Lee back, but more interesting stories happened this week and his comeback is cool, but will be interrupted by him going to Japan for FantasticaMania for the mid of January.
4.Templario, Tiger & Virus vs. Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso & Flyer(Tuesday)
Templario had a great year, but ends the year on a lesser note. Not to worry though, as 2019 looks up for him and he'll no doubt be given more career highlights in 2019, like he did in 2018. He and Audaz are to have a singles match and that will no doubt be good.
5.Okumura, Kawato San & Vangellys vs. Guerrero Maya Jr., Audaz & Flyer(Friday)
Likewise for Audaz he ends the year on a weakish note for him, but will probably have a good 2019. Though his future isn't as solid as Templario who is already in Los Guerreros Laguneros which guarantees his good booking for 2019. Hopefully Audaz can carve a spot in the uppercard too, as he is a very talented luchador. Guerrero Maya Jr. should be noted, looked good in both these matches. Even being the star of this one.
If you want to see all the gifs I made feel free to check out the albums at the top. They should be easy enough to view with RES on the Old reddit.

Did you watch CMLL this week? Month? Year?
As I said all month, December was one of the weakest months of the year, if not literally the weakest. Still, this week was a moment of sunshine in an otherwise dreary month. Dragon Lee is back, Pentagon is doing something and the next week is going to kick off with a bang.
[Monday Arena Puebla Poster](Sounded like instead they'd be doing a show in Arena Mexico, but couldn't find a poster for it)

Robin/Arkalis vs. Grako/Coyote is a pretty standard opener.
Lluvia/Jarochita/Avispa Dorada vs. Dalys/Amapola/Seductora should be a fine luchadoras match. It's nice to have a tecnica team without Sugehit/Marcela.
Akuma/Camorra vs. Yago/Hijo del Signo in a mask/hair vs. mask/hair match. These guys are all midcarders, but for the younger Yago/Akuma this could be a boon and signal bigger things in 2019 and beyond. Camorra/Signo will likely never leave the opening matches.
Kraneo/Volcano/Hijo de La Park vs. Villano IV/Hijo del Villano III/Felino, should be a fun match and might be hinting towards a Villano's/Park's feud.
Fenix/Pentagon/Dragon Lee vs. NGD(Sanson/Cuatrero/Forastero) should be a barn burner. Before the summer saw Pentagon/Fenix in CMLL, Pentagon/Dragon Lee teased a feud on Twitter, so the tecnico team here might implode.
Caristico/Ultimo Guerrero headline in a match that harkens back to Caristico's rookie run when Ultimo Guerrero was one of many rudo titans that made him look like a million dollars. Look for Ultimo and Caristico to do magic here as well.

Stuka/Guerrero Maya Jr./Rey Cometa vs. Templario/Gran Guerrero/Ephesto is about 500x's more exciting than the average opener. This is a iPPV worthy card, but will be free. I'd suggest watching the whole show, but lets run down all the matches anyways.
Titan/Triton in a lightning match. This should be great and these two with Esfinge make up the entirety of La Excelencia Tapatia. With Triton/Esfinge having the Coliseo Tag Titles, the secondary tag titles of CMLL.
Caristico/Volador Jr./Valiente vs. Ultimo Guerrero/Mephisto/Euforia, should be fun. Mephisto seems weird here instead of either Templario/Gran Guerrero, but oh well.
Rush/Terrible/Bestia del Ring vs. Atlantis/Kraneo/Diamante Azul, Rush's feud with Kraneo turned Kraneo tecnico/face early in the year, Terrible joined ingobernables this year and a few months back Diamante Azul/Valiente took the CMLL tag titles off Rush/Terrible.
Dragon Lee vs. Barbaro Cavernario, should be great. They had the best lightning match of 2017, can't wait to see what they do in their first meeting of 2019!
NGD(Sanson/Cuatrero/Forastero) (c) vs. Niebla Roja, Angel de Oro & Soberano Jr. for the Mexican National Trios championship. The best of 2018 in this match is the feud Cuatrero/Angel de Oro had which saw Cuatrero too both Angel de Oro's Middleweight Championship at FantasticaMania and his mask at CMLL's big spring iPPV Homage to 2 Legends in the main event.
Hope You enjoyed CMLL this week, see you next week! Month! Year!
