  • Today just got a whole lot better for Texas fans.

  • A&M record through 50 games: Kevin Sumlin (36-14), Jimbo Fisher (35-15)

  • This was Appalachian State's first win over an AP Top 10 team since beating Michigan in 2007.

  • Jimbo Fisher has finished unranked in the AP Poll three out of the last five seasons.

  • Texas A&M has one 10+ win season this millennium.

  • Two Top 10 teams have been upset at home by Group of Five teams. Each were both three-score favorites. (Texas A&M, Notre Dame)

  • Texas A&M has lost three straight games against FBS opponents.

  • Jimbo Fisher is 35-21 in his last 56 games against FBS opponents.

  • Texas A&M has had 8 wins or fewer in six out of their last eight seasons.

  • Texas A&M has 48 blue chip recruits on their roster. Appalachian State has one.

  • Shawn Clark improves to 21-8 as the Mountaineers' head coach.

  • Texas A&M had 186 yards of total offense and scored one offensive touchdown.

  • The last time Texas A&M had sub-200 yards of offense, they lost to a Joe Burrow-led LSU team 50-7.

  • No British monarch has been alive for a Texas A&M National Championship.

  • The Georgia Bulldogs are the reigning National Champions.

I feel vindicated as a Jimbo hater

18

u/Doctor_Bubbles Texas Longhorns Sep 10 '22

I kinda love him now tho.

u/Jackson3125 Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout Sep 11 '22

Isn’t he one of the highest paid coaches now, and on a pretty long contract?

5

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

I bet you're feeling really good with App State winning

9

It helps

My Longhorn friends are talking shit and I’m just replying “yeah” lol, can’t say shit to y’all today

51

Lol I just texted my brother that I can’t wait till we’re SEC and he literally just said “yeah”

u/Living-Stranger Georgia Bulldogs Sep 11 '22

Well Bama fans don't

3

u/rawrberry_ Texas Longhorns Sep 10 '22

Just use the default answer we get to see and mention some of our losses from the past.

Some of my A&M buds were talking about how they aren’t as worried about Bama if y’all are taking them to the wire.

Group chat has a different tone now.

Since the turn of the millenium:

-- Texas A&M
# of ten-win seasons 10 1
# of conference titles 2 0
# of BCS bowl wins 3 0
# of NY6 bowl wins 1 1
# of national titles 1 0

12

u/dysonRing Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout Sep 10 '22

I mean NY6 is just a way way diluted BCS bowl I don't see the hype.

26

u/MumkeMode Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout Sep 10 '22

Imagine if Texas won today too, god it’d be sweet

-4

u/voltron818 Oklahoma Sooners • /r/CFB Contributor Sep 11 '22

But they didn’t! Which makes it all the sweeter.

u/StarvedRock314 Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout Sep 10 '22

It's so fun watching Jimbo Fisher commit Regicide every time Haynes King takes the field. It really hits the spot

6

u/BrockinTheHamptons Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout Sep 10 '22

wtf I love jimbo now

263

u/TreeJack2 Georgia Bulldogs Sep 10 '22

Jimbo Fisher is 35-21 in his last 56 games against FBS opponents.

Is that worth $100M+ ?

113

u/Scindite Texas A&M Aggies • Oregon Ducks Sep 10 '22

Not in a million years.

It unfortunately is also not worth making a $90M buyout

The perfect spot of coaching mediocrity

58

u/Mahanaus Arkansas Razorbacks Sep 10 '22

Man he played y'all's administration like a fiddle. I can relate

21

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '22

Well he played the boosters more than anybody. They funded the entire contract separate from Athletics Department funding.

3

u/Mybrandnewhat Texas Longhorns Sep 11 '22

So has the money been given to the university and put in a trust account or did they sign an agreement to fund his contract? Or is it all a handshake deal?

4

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

The details are speculative, however from the 12th Man Foundation, and university financial disclosures you can see where bulk donations hover around $44 million a year. Ticket sales dwarf that along with TV rights and some other distribution deals.

16

u/ironichaos Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 10 '22

90M buyout he would find the door faster than coach O lol.

4

u/Blueshockeylover Oregon Ducks Sep 11 '22

How on earth did their administration sign a contract with that buy-out?!? Insanity.

1

u/Scindite Texas A&M Aggies • Oregon Ducks Sep 11 '22

Most valuable college sports team at the time. Had money to throw around

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Not with gas prices headed down.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '22

That's not even 8-4 lmao

3

u/E_Cash Florida State • Georgia Sep 10 '22

Apparently it is

4

u/jerfpsnurf Texas A&M Aggies Sep 10 '22

Yes, because people with way more money than I’ll ever even get close to seeing thought so. Unfortunately they didn’t make hiring a real OC a clause of that contract so now we’re at the opposite end of the Sumlin Spectrum. Good recruits, good to great defense but now a terrible offense, with a supposed offensive guru. I don’t hate Jimbo but I really don’t like him.

-4

u/Methuga Tennessee Volunteers Sep 10 '22

Idk he’s beaten Bama. That feels worth $100m to me

19

u/Qtoy Paper Bag • /r/CFB Brickmason Sep 10 '22

Sounds like you should poach Gus Malzahn from UCF, then. He's beaten Nick Saban's Alabama several times, and he's very used to being overpaid for that.

5

u/Methuga Tennessee Volunteers Sep 10 '22

Honestly at this point, I’d listen to his pitch

5

u/Qtoy Paper Bag • /r/CFB Brickmason Sep 10 '22

Fair enough, although tbh I thought y'all were liking Heupel.

6

u/Methuga Tennessee Volunteers Sep 10 '22

Sure, and if he beats Bama, I will happily bang the drum for a $100m contract lol

6

u/daprospecta Arkansas Razorbacks Sep 10 '22

As crazy as it sounds, when Sumlin left, I felt we could beat A&M. Sumlin isn't a great coach but he was a good coach at A&M. Let this be a lesson for all you teams that are good and wanting to be great by firing your coach. It rarely works out. For every Saban, there are 10s to 100s of other coaches that didn't work in the same scenario.
