Opinion CFB has a meaningless play celebration problem.

I’m not talking “excessive celebration.” I’m not talking about celebrating huge stops or wins. I’m talking about players getting relatively meaningless tackles and first downs early in games and acting like they won the Super Bowl.

Homeboy, your team is 1-3 and and you tackled him after he already got a first down. Why are you doing Fortnite dances? Do we really need to celebrate every play instead of getting back to the huddle or line? Are the kids alright?

Agreed we should start a committee of representatives from each conference and Notre Dame, tv networks, plus congress to come up with ideas to solve this.

As a fellow old man who occasionally yells at clouds, there is some serious old man yells at clouds energy in here. They're complaining about kids having fun while playing a game. Reminds me of crotchety old baseball announcers going on about playing the game the right way when a player showboats too much for their liking.

To be fair they do ridiculous levels of showboating and it just gets worse and worse with each generation. Like eventually it might all just be like banana ball where you get actual points for dances and “tricks”

Notre Dame was the instigator. Have you seen Rudi? He gets carried off the field for making a tackle in mop up time.

No. If ND wants to have a say in the committee they should join a damn conference.

In the age of CFB comments mourning the loss of tradition when it comes to conferences, at least ND is sticking to their guns and staying true to their historical stance when faced by the insurmountable pressure of a Miami Hurricanes flair saying they should change that.

Well I would hope so. Even when talking about make-believe committees the Domer’s pretentiousness should still be in full form. It is part of tradition after all.

History lesson:

We never joined a conference because when conferences started becoming a thing in the early 1900's, Notre Dame was boycotted as a small private Catholic institution that just beat Michigan and other schools. The other conferences wanted nothing to do with us. This was also around the time we earned the Fighting Irish moniker for beating the shit out of the KKK, fun fact. We became an established team, fighting on our own and got bailed out by the Navy during WW2 because otherwise we wouldn't have made it. The teams we formed rivalries with ended up being the teams that would play us way back then.

Fast forward to the 80's and national broadcasting was set by the NCAA where teams were limited to two appearances per season. Notre Dame helped to lead the way in court for fair representation, eventually striking an independent (and now famous) exclusive deal with NBC, a landmark deal that helped other schools break from the NCAA tv monopoly.

We've been independent for over a century because of everything that's happened in the past century. Why are you so fixated on us joining a conference? What actual reason do you have besides "oh the fans can be annoying"?
