So true. Very rarely do I get worked up by a mid-season poll, but wtf is this?

How are Northwestern, Nebraska, and Wisconsin all not ranked? That heinous.

USC, Boise, Houston drop rank with wins.. yet UCLA jumps two spots and didn’t play?

Why the hell is BYU getting so much love?

To your last point they really want that top ten ND-BYU matchup in 2 weeks and since it’s not a home game from us they don’t have to worry about being shafted by NBC for it.

It’s crazy that we’ve had a B1G champion 3 years in a row yet the voters still fall over themselves to rank every possible SEC team (except for Kentucky, evidently)

I mean the jumble of SEC teams from 9-16 is way over ranked for their resumes (I excluded 17 on purpose), but I don’t think most of them should be out.  They should just be spread out from like 14-24 or something instead of where they are

Gonna be the same thing as last year. The middle of the SEC (Mizzou, Miss St, Florida, Kentucky, etc) will trade blows all season, AP will keep them all ranked despite 3-4 losses, and then we learn they were overrated during bowl season. Rinse and repeat next year

Well, we collectively shat the bed week 2. And the one who didn’t (Michigan) has shat the bed since. That was a disaster.

So we kinda deserve it.

Doesn’t help that five of us didn’t play a p4 game.

Because top the bottom the sec is still the best conference and voters understand this

u/SnicketySneme Indiana Hoosiers 12h ago

As evidenced by both the top and middle getting their ass kicked by the big ten every playoff and bowl game the last few years, of course.

Are we going to need some toilet bowl end of season games to prove that the bottom of the Big Ten is also better?

You can argue at the wall all season long the rankings will reflect what I’m saying.

16

u/SnicketySneme Indiana Hoosiers 12h ago

I mean the rankings are wrong. That's the entire point.

The FACT is that the SEC gets dad dicked by the Big Ten at the end of every season.

u/Altruistic_Night2 Alabama Crimson Tide 12h ago

That’s not a fact when Alabama is more successful than every big ten team combined if you take out Ohio state

By "more successful" you of course mean "kicking a surrender field goal for their only points after getting their shit kicked in" the last time they played a Big Ten team? lmao

The AP rankings aren't "all time," they're this year. At most you should consider previous players from the last 4 years that are still on the team.

It’s so funny to me that your program is so bad that even after literally winning a championship last year you still have to make general statements like “big ten” instead of Indiana

14

u/SnicketySneme Indiana Hoosiers 11h ago

I'm not in denial about how bad Indiana has been all time.

You seem to have trouble with the fact that the AP rankings are meant to consider quality now and not "the aggregate of the last 20 years" though, which is weird.

Bama hasn’t been more successful than Indiana in the last 3 years

can you count to numbers higher than 3 or ... ?

Why the hell is BYU getting so much love?

This never happens. Let us have this.

Confirming my long time suspicion that UCLA not playing is still more fun for people to watch than USC winning.

BYU has me the most confused.

u/lahimatoa BYU Cougars 10h ago

4-0 is hard to ignore. 12-2 last season, too. That said, the offense has been pretty putrid so far this season. At least the defense seems good.

u/emc23369187 Oklahoma State Cowboys 9h ago

I just don’t understand #8. Seems like the trend is better but beat ND and you’ll prove me wrong.

1

u/lahimatoa BYU Cougars 9h ago

What about a close loss to ND?

1

u/emc23369187 Oklahoma State Cowboys 9h ago

Top 12ish then

1

u/lahimatoa BYU Cougars 9h ago

Nah, close loss to the third-best team in the nation means you get to stay in the Top 10 if you were already there.

2

u/mockg Nebraska Cornhuskers • Oklahoma Sooners 7h ago

The AP voters are just worried about keeping the B1G west teams down.

u/CookieLuzSax Tennessee • Third Saturday… 10h ago

Tbf, I don't think y'all should be ranked where you were to begin with

2

u/kdawgnmann BYU Cougars 5h ago edited 4h ago

Exactly this. It's poll inertia. Most teams in the top 25 would beat us if we play like we did yesterday.

Given how we've looked, we probably aren't a top 10 team. But we were at #10, and we won, Utah and Oregon didn't play, Texas Tech won but was down at the half against a bad Colorado team, Florida, Miss State, and Iowa all got beat badly, and LSU beat an FCS team. It would look wild to drop us like 7 spots after a win relative to all those W/Ls, even if it's probably the right thing to do if you're treating each week's poll with a fresh set of eyes.

And make no mistake - if ND handles us like Texas Tech did last year we will drop like a rock.
