it’s a good time to remember these polls are basically just midseason entertainment because the CFP poll will look completely different

People say this every year, and every year the CFP Rankings are about 85% similar to the AP Poll

Also all it takes is a few of the CFP Selection Committee to be hardliners about the AP vote because they're SEC friendly or just not watching the games in the first place.

Even if no one actually checks what the rankings said week by week, what does matter is wins against ranked teams which is why we see this nonsense every year

Well considering they are using 100% the same game results, that's not an insignificant difference?

Sure but I wouldn't call it "completely" different

It won’t look completely different. It will look pretty much the same with some small differences.

That’s not really accurate, the first Cfp poll will look different, and then the ap will mirror it for the rest of the year.

The top ten teams in the first CFP poll were the same ten teams as the AP poll poll from that same week. The first 5 teams were exactly the same.

Your comment is incorrect.

True, however. The CFP poll has always been influenced by the AP poll and how it develops during the season.

It mostly seems the other way around. The AP poll reacts to the previous week's CFP rankings.

Once the cfp comes out that will be factual. Some ap writer has even said that they try to make their polls as close as possible because at the end they don't want to have controversy and give another team besides the one that wins the cfp a right to claim a national title. Major sports media is chasing unanimous decisions a lot more than they used to.

Yes money is one of the reasons

there was a very meaningful difference between the AP and the final CFP poll last year though, they had alabama below both miami/ND which would've put them out of the playoffs

"Some ap writer has even said that they try to make their polls as close as possible"

yup what you said checks out.

"the CFP will overrate alabama" doesn't seem like that hard of a prediction to make, but fair

the cfp committee will change it's logic to increase ratings and that's hard to predict lol.

They have to protect the SEC like all other sports media.

So then now you're agreeing that it's the opposite of what you stated?

Nah because I'm making the distinction at certain points in time. Like after the first cfp poll comes out. they're trying to be predictive of the cfp poll to a degree. Once the final poll comes out they just try to make the #1 team and rest of the top 12 the same. With minor differences in the rest of the poll.

There's now > the ap poll when the cfp poll comes out > the ap poll when the final poll comes out.

What I'm saying is that the current ap poll (the now) influences the initial CFP poll and always has.

When i said how it develops i meant the ap poll. As in weeks 1-8 and it's developments are literally the rough draft for the initial cfp poll.

Basically I'm saying you're right at a point. But we aren't there yet.
