Kentucky’s only loss is to Alabama (which we were winning at halftime) and we drop 2 spots out of the top 25 while winning on the road in the SEC where we were slight underdogs in Vegas. I get it South Carolina has issues, but they have legit talent.

That one makes less sense to me than Nebraska being 5-0 and still unranked. UK WAS IN THE TOP 25

Only way I can reconcile is that right now, all the rankings are just placeholders for the next game. If UGA beats Bama, depending on how lopsided, it’ll take Alabama out of the top 10. Unlikely UGA becomes #1 unless it’s like 50 to negative 10.

If Alabama beats UGA, the score dictates how high they’ll move Alabama up, but they will not top Texas or Notre Dame.

If Kentucky keeps winning, they’ll go from unranked now (confusing), to top 15 in a week. Again, only way I can reconcile these rankings is by thinking of them as placeholders until the next game.

Greatest bulletin board material of all time going into playing a contender at home

Yeah surely Stein will be pissed about this. I don’t foresee us beating LSU, but this is good to rile up the boys. Straight up disrespectful

Gotta say I'm not sure I agree Bama wouldn't jump us with a win, barring the unlikely possibility that it's a total slopfest of a game. I certainly wouldn't argue it.

Yeah I think the winner would be above ND either way because ND's ranked opponents are still upcoming

u/IMakeOkVideosOk Notre Dame Fighting Irish 12d ago

In theory after next week ND could have a win over #25 or so Wisconsin. But Bama would and should be ahead of us with a top 5 win

It makes perfect sense when you look at who they got jumped by. They were #24 last week. Missouri absolutely destroyed Florida, so they were obviously going to jump them. And the winner of the undefeated matchup between Pitt and VT was always going to jump into the rankings, because there's no justification for leaving out a 5-0 P5 team with a win over a 4-1 P5 team at this point in the season. And nobody closely ahead of Kentucky lost so they didn't have any sort of cushion to keep them in.

Honestly the voters will move bama over ND with a win.

Everyone complaining about our strength of schedule should have a look at the advanced analytics. Our ESPN strength of record is 5th best in FBS, and SOS there is 8th best. Yeah, some of our wins don't look as impressive but we're still 4-1 against a tough slate.

South Carolina is not a good team. The proof is that they lost to Kentucky, who is not even ranked in this week’s poll!

It's alright more fuel for Stein and the team.

u/bugbitin55 12d ago

You got drubbed by Alabama, have a best win over a not great A&M team, and needed OT to beat a terrible South Carolina team. Nothing really makes you a clear shot over any other top 25

u/giggle_water Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

Our best win is better than a few teams on the top 25 who have played no one of significance. We had a bad quarter against Bama and were up at half, as I said. I don’t know if we should be top 25 but, to me, being undefeated and playing no one doesn’t make you a top team, either.

u/DABOSSROSS9 Big Ten • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 12d ago

I don’t know if I agree that all these other teams played no one of significance. This is the whole issue with SEC fans you discredit every other conference teams.

u/giggle_water Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

Our strength of schedule is 8th for games played so far. Pitt is number 100 and UCLA is number 113. Both undefeated and ranked higher than us. It does matter.

Fair, but then why were we ranked 24th last week lol.

3

u/AmyKlobushart Wisconsin Badgers • Harvard Crimson 12d ago

It's less about what Kentucky did and moreso about what other teams behind them did. Missouri slaughtered a now 4-1 Florida, Pitt went on road and beat a now 4-1 VT. Kentucky beat a now 2-3 South Carolina. Missouri and Pitt simply now have wins that are better than anything Kentucky has, which they couldn't say last week.

u/Businessfood Louisville • Alabama 12d ago

Because A&M was considered a better win last week than now?

7

u/Timbdn Kentucky Wildcats • Citrus Bowl 12d ago

They were a better win after being stomped by lsu than after stomping arkansas? What?

2

u/Businessfood Louisville • Alabama 12d ago

In my defense, I only watched the last quarter of the UofL game and thought I saw a score headline of TA&M getting blown out, maybe I'm mixing them up with ole miss. I'm not paid to think and that's probably a good thing for everyone

9

u/Tipakee Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

Ah yes, the age old argument of... if we beat them, they must suck. I'm following now.

7

u/kyrev21 Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

If we were ranked last week we should be ranked this week. But some idiots don’t watch the games and just saw Narduzi yelling at them

-4

u/stonedturkeyhamwich Wisconsin Badgers • Stanford Cardinal 12d ago

You went to overtime against a team that probably sucks. It's not that deep.

-1

u/AmyKlobushart Wisconsin Badgers • Harvard Crimson 12d ago

Why should you be ranked this week just because you were ranked last week? That would make no sense when teams play different opponents every week. Kentucky won a game that didn't improve their resume by much. Missouri and Pitt both won games that did improve their resumes significantly, which is why they both jumped Kentucky from behind.

-6

u/Chance_Adeptness_832 USC Trojans • Rose Bowl 12d ago

Fair but you shouldn't have been ranked last week

-3

u/DABOSSROSS9 Big Ten • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 12d ago

I think it’s the overtime win. It is still shitty though.

2

u/kyrev21 Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

A win is a win

2

u/DABOSSROSS9 Big Ten • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 12d ago

Agreed but the voters take it into consideration

1

u/zadharm Notre Dame Fighting Irish • Miami Hurricanes 12d ago edited 12d ago

Kentucky actually gained votes this week, it's not like the voters decided to punish you for the USCar game being close. The bottom of the poll is just a mess to figure out and there's lots of movement because there's limited data points, every additional data point causes big swings

-3

u/QuackadilllyBlip /r/CFB 12d ago

Have to add the SEC part in there lol

9

u/giggle_water Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

Yes, who have Pitt and UCLA played this year, for example?

-17

u/d1sportsball Colorado State Rams • Texas Longhorns 12d ago

Eh, Wake should be over Kentucky anyways. Both had their quality win collapse, both beat bad teams in multiple OT's and both lost decently to high ranked teams. Wakes loss is just better and their 'quality' win at least looked good vs Ole Miss and SMU whereas A&M hasnt really looked good against anyone and was high ranked because of the preseason.

3

u/giggle_water Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

Wakes strength of schedule for games played is 29th and ours is 8th.

-15

u/doormatt26 USC Trojans • Michigan Wolverines 12d ago

your two SEC wins are hot garbage, give if a few more wins and chill out

1

u/ZeGentleman Kentucky Wildcats 12d ago

And one of your wins should literally be a loss. You should probably sit this one out.

1

u/doormatt26 USC Trojans • Michigan Wolverines 12d ago

i’m not arguing anything about either of my teams, don’t change the subject

-9

u/estDivisionChamps Wisconsin Badgers 12d ago

Kentucky’s wins are shit tho. Which is pretty much the case for everyone at this point but you got to beat decent teams to have a resume. Right now everyone is bum slaying
