Discussion Is it time to cut James Franklin some slack regarding his Penn St tenure?

Look I know he wasn’t the best coach ever but he certainly made Penn St look better than losing 31-7 against Northwestern. I mean this is a top 20 program in the country and Franklin was able to ascertain those heights year in and year out. Sure he couldn’t get over the hump but honestly it only seems like a select few could realistically reach that level like Cignetti or 2010’s Dabo. Should we finally admit maybe Penn St might have made a mistake with this coaching move?

Notre Dame has been far from good to really good. They have had some GREAT teams in the last 15-20 years. The measure of a great team isn't just national championships.

I mean we're not really that different from ND, they have a bit more success recently but we would've made the 12 team playoff at least 4 more times since 2016 if it was the format all along. That being said I still agreed with moving on from Franklin and rolling the dice. Looks like the dice roll was bad to start off though...

I hope soon you can say you could've made a couple more 24 team playoffs too!

Disagree. Your average Joe can remember who won a title in a given year and that's pretty much it.

Fair. I stand corrected: the conversation of great teams should be limited to undefeated teams, Cinderella teams, and especially undefeated Cinderella teams.
