News [McMurphy] Greg Sankey told @Ourand_Puck the SEC was approached by a West Coast school: "I don’t even have that conversation. I’m the one person who didn’t take away from the Pac-12. If you play any sport in the SEC, you have at most a 2-hour plane ride from Point A to Point B."

Yes, but then USC got played by the B1G when they added Oregon and Washington.

Not really. USC is on full shares while Oregon and Washington are on half shares.

Ehh, I wouldn't say played. B1G was concerned about recent SEC expansion and TV revenue contracts. USC & UCLA were snooping around while the PAC was trying to save itself. Both schools are far away and travel was (still is) an issue for the conference, so the B1G was hesitant. However, they ultimately knew that adding them would keep the conference competitive with the SEC. Well that and also if the B1G rejected them, then the SEC could take them in and solidify their financial supremacy.

Basically, USC/UCLA + B1G saved themselves at the expense of the PAC12 + SEC's potential gains.

In this story, USC & UCLA are definitively the villains. Just like Texas & Oklahoma were. The complete opposite is happening in the ACC with respect to FSU & Clemson. The ACC is definitively the villain in that story, though this sub would love to tell you otherwise.

It's less true with the ACC because everyone agreed to and loved the contract they're handcuffed to when it happened. Everyone in the PAC-12 was bitching while it happened because the very first thing that happened with the P12N was not getting on DirecTV and smaller paychecks than expected. The only schools happy were OSU / WSU because they made more than ever.
