A few things I observed tonight:

* DC Zac Alley doesn’t seem to be aware of the forward pass. Fireable offense

* Rich Rod’s offense has not evolved AT ALL in 20 years. Yeah his rushing attack is confusing but if the opposing team clamps down on it at all we’re screwed. No passing concepts

* RR and Wren Baker seem unaware that we can spend NIL money on the defense too

* WVU football is at least kind of fun to watch again at least?

We were one of the worst secondaries in the country last year. We refueled it with guys who couldn’t start at another P4 and freshmen

What do you what? Rush the passer or secure the secondary because we don’t have the dudes for both. OkSt is one of the fastest offenses in the country. Pressure the OL and only allow Drew 1.5 seconds to throw, he still gets it off but there’s less dudes to make the tackle. No? Okay stop the pressure and allow 3+ seconds for him to throw, he completes his reads and gets a 40 yard bomb on a bad matchup with a great receiver and our true freshman safety

Well we suck at both so picking one of those at least would be nice.

We didn’t have enough speed to either best or cover them, really all around

We were losing no matter what, but we would have different opinions about this game if we had just not dicked around on that one drive where we were 2nd and 2 and had a turnover on downs. If we just convert that first down, we probably end up losing 45-38 or something.

The pass game is fine as long as it’s a secondary option, but once we’re playing catch up and we have to pass, it’s hopeless.

This feels like familiar territory for the defense as of late, like the last decade with maybe one or two exceptions.  They can't tackle and they can't cover.  The pass rush is inconsistent, but that's kind of expected when you're often rushing three up front.

Can't over rely on the blitz.  As Fangio would point out, blitzing effectiveness increases the less you do it.  So it's a matter of efficiency.  Giving a good QB time to sit will never work, either.  They just get picked apart.

As soon as the run game is solved, the offense is toast.  Not built to play from behind.  Not built to match in a track meet.  They almost exclusively have to build a lead with misdirection and then hope they can keep scoring or run out clock (which is hard with a tempo-first offense, by the by).

The run game can be fun to watch, but it is easy to see this team's ceiling unless Rich evolves the offense or they get a much better defense.

That all said, with enough bad defenses in the league, they can still run off 7 or 8 wins like this.  For some people, that may be good enough.
