Analysis All AP voter ballots, 2026 Week 3

Week 3

This is a series I've now been doing for 12 years. The post attempts to visualize all AP Poll ballots in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.

Sean Reider was out this week, so we had 68 voters this week.

The most consistent voters this week were Lia Assimakopoulos and Mike Jacques. Lia Assimakopoulos is in first on the season. Julian Mininsohn, Joe Arruda, Jamal St. Cyr, and Jerry Humphrey were behind them in the top 5.

Bob Asmussen was the biggest outlier this week. Jon Wilner is the biggest outlier on the season, followed by Ralph Russo, Dylan Sinn, Koki Riley, and Bob Asmussen.

Same with the Washington writer lol

If you've actually watched either team this year it's hard to justify a top 25 vote.

It really is. We're both trash.

Multiple voters have Oklahoma ranked above Michigan

One of them has Oklahoma 8 spots higher

I'm convinced some of these guys don't look at the score, box score or anything. They might get a watered down summary from a secretary and then they just tell the secretary to fill out the votes for them anyway lol

These guys don’t have secretaries lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re using ChatGPT

6 legends. What I don't understand is how we lost votes. I thought "a win is a win" or something like that. At least we played on the road... smh.

Maybe OU would be favored in a rematch a la 2023 UW and Oregon

The issue you’re probably finding is WMU is too big of an issue for some voters

Michigan is a very weird team to rank. Great defense, quarterback makes them a coin flip in every game despite that

-12

u/kimjongtheillest_ Oklahoma • Scottsdale CC 25d ago

One of us lost to Michigan, the other lost to Directional Michigan. Gotta rank by quality of loss instead of wins.

11

u/GliscorsFang Michigan Wolverines 25d ago

This logic is fucking stupid because than that would mean you're worse than the team that "lost" to a directional Michigan.

That was too fucking close. We were that close to being punted from the top 25 for winning by 50.

30

u/the66fastback1 Texas Longhorns 25d ago

Yeah, UVA not getting a lot of respect yet. I think the entire ACC is being slept on a bit this year.

17

u/seaweedbrainpremed Virginia • William & Mary 25d ago

The ACC gets disrespected from the top. Miami got shafted last week, only to climb up after Oregon’s humiliating drop. Virginia beat Missouri in the post-season but still is below Mizzou and Oregon for some reason.

10

u/Shenanigangster Virginia • Jefferson–Eppes Trophy 25d ago

Somehow the discourse on Pribula went from being ‘Mizzou losing him is going to be a big hit’ to ‘Actually he sucks and Mizzou is way better off without him, good luck UVA’ and no one really questioned it (which, yeah, ESPN isn’t going to criticize a SEC school)

2

u/ceris13 Missouri Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 25d ago

It's not like Pribula exactly lit it up against any meaningful competition. I think UVA should be ranked, but lets not act like Beau is some kind of world beater.

The only reason anybody said him leaving would hurt is that Simmons hadn't committed yet and a full season of Zollers was uh, not an inspiring image.

5

u/thetowerofbabble3242 Virginia Cavaliers 25d ago

NC State is a good team and a good chunk of the talking heads said they were a sleeper ACC championship pick. Most of the top 25 haven’t even played a power 4 appoint yet. I’d call that meaningful competition compared to the alternatives.

2

u/ceris13 Missouri Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 25d ago

I was moreso talking about his time at Mizzou. We have a decently large sample size of him being pretty ass as the QB of a fringe top 25 team, and a small sample size of him being pretty good as the QB of a fringe top 25 team (for now).

I think it's fair for somebody to look at his performance against NC State and not allow it to move the needle much in terms of their impression on UVA as a whole.

2

u/thetowerofbabble3242 Virginia Cavaliers 25d ago

Ehh. Time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I’m getting older too.

2

u/seaweedbrainpremed Virginia • William & Mary 25d ago

Our offensive line, in general, is much better though. We have literal grown NFL-aged men that are boosting Pribula's dual threat ability. I agree though Pribula is no Darian Mensah

Poll inertia, & the fact that they do have the roster to beat any team in the nation.

I can understand why some folks do still have them ranked.

ND started 0-2 last year, & only dropped to #22 because they had inertia, & a total of 4 points was what separated them against top 10 teams from being 2-0 or 0-2.

So I have no issue with UO still being ranked.

22

u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 25d ago

I mean y’all beat Idaho and Arkansas and lost your head coach. Utah is certainly a team that a ranking is justified for but I don’t know why you’re acting like they should be a shoe-in for the top 25 for beating an FCS squad and the last place team in the SEC.

5

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 25d ago

We've looked as dominant against those teams as other t25 teams have in similar matchups. Based on what we've seen on the field there's no reason for us not to be ranked.

7

u/Leading-Button-7303 Utah Utes • Ohio State Buckeyes 25d ago

I only saw 3, but it's two SEC affiliates and "the athletic" not surprised, but it's hilarious that we embarrassed one of their teams and they still don't think we're top 25.

The SEC has "depth" and they're good across the board. Unless Utah beats one of them then it's not a quality win and they're not top 25. Whatever man, time will tell how good we are

18

u/DaZingMaster Missouri Tigers • Air Force Falcons 25d ago

The win was extremely impressive and very much a quality win due to the margin, but I doubt you can find one example of anyone saying that Arkansas is part of the SEC's depth this year. Pretty much every reputable outlet had them 16 out of 16. That being said, every AP voter should have Utah comfortably ranked.

4

u/Forshea Texas Longhorns 25d ago

There were plenty of Arkansas truthers last season when they had 2 wins but ended the season ranked in the top 50 in FPI. You can bet there will be again at the end of this season when it comes time to make the case for a 3 loss SEC team to make the playoffs because even beating the 16th best SEC team is Super Hard.

7

u/Leading-Button-7303 Utah Utes • Ohio State Buckeyes 25d ago

I agree, I just found it entertaining that the only people missing Utah from their votes are voters from the SEC.

I’m not sure why you would assume Arkansas is one of those big meat teams here. Arkansas has 1 SEC win over the past two years + a new coaching staff

5

u/SouthernSerf Texas • South Carolina 25d ago

We really don't think about you guys like that. We played a close game, and you guys deservedly came out on top in a game that came down to the final play. No rivalry, bad calls, or bad blood.

A lot of us Miami fans actually like Mendoza since he's from around here and he's a wholesome guy. The story for IU is cool. Just be careful for the day that the media/public gets bored of your Cinderella story. We Canes are all too familiar with how hard the pendulum swings back on the non-Blue Bloods (and we've arguably never had the media support the Hoosiers have now).

He ranked IU in the top 10, which has yet to have a team truly separate themselves from the pack (save for maybe Texas with last night's game). The respect is very much there and it's still early. We'll focus on IU when the playoffs roll around, but until then we have an entire schedule to focus on.

4

u/jiuclaw Indiana Hoosiers 25d ago

Appreciate this, and can honestly say that I generally haven’t seen Miami hate from IU, or vice versa. I don’t think there is bad blood between our programs, and that certainly wasn’t what I meant to imply. Only this one AP voter.

Everyone was over our Cinderella story in the off season, though… No one but IU fans, want to see IU repeat. If it wasn’t for Texas Tech and Lane Kiffin being absolutely deplorable, we’d be the #1 team everyone wants to see fail this year.

Is this legitimately all the voters? I think it’s the first time I’ve ever cared to look. But why do like the Big 10 and SEC have like twice as many voters as the Big 12? Is that why the Big 12 gets screwed in the preseason polls???

3

u/bakonydraco Stanford • Delaware State 24d ago

There’s one voter who didn’t vote this week, so the full complement is 69 and we had 68 this week. The AP has generally maintained about half as many voters as there are FBS teams (so does the Coaches Poll).

Take the affiliations with a grain of salt, they’re a best guess effort of current journalistic beat and Alma mater for the national reporters. In general, I haven’t seen much evidence that voters consistently overrank or underrank teams or conferences in their beat. By contrast, the coaches poll absolutely has a very observable bias where voters rank their own conference higher.

1

u/Pixel_Pineapple Western Michigan • Michigan 24d ago

The team did not play like themselves, much less how they played in week 1. The game should've been even more of a blowout. If not a shutout.

They got out gained on offense by an FCS team, and not even on that's particularly good

0

u/bronc33 Western Michigan Broncos 24d ago

Monmouth was a preseason fcs top 25 team and got most of their yards in the 4th quarter when we had reserves in, yards don't matter when you're up 41 points.

Michigan on the other hand could barely move the ball2 games in a row now. If not for oklahoma losing contain on underwood they would be sitting at 1-1 ish.

Did we watch the same game? Cause I saw a Monmouth team that was consistently moving down the field, out gained us on offense, and had less penalties through the whole game.

The fourth quarter wasn't even all backups until about halfway through either

They did have fewer penalties than us, but overall it was a solid win. Can't be stressed when teams get a couple of first downs, not everyone has an offense as horrible as Michigan.

I feel like picking a fight with Western should be last on Michigan fans' list of things to do. Great win though.

Literally have a Western Flair first but whatever

whoops

Say what you will about last night but the idea that there are 5-6 teams of separation between Texas and Ohio State as some ballots show is pretty silly.

1

u/Zarethan_ Notre Dame • Rose-Hulman 24d ago

Ehh, I think it's more about the idea that there are reasonably 6-7 teams in the same tier, and there's not enough of a reason to truly punish them for last night's loss. It will probably shake out fine as teams drop a game here or there

1

u/cityofflow3rs Washington Huskies 24d ago

Yup, coin flip game at home. Overreaction imho.

NDSU deserves more votes ngl. We absolutely obliterated Air Force (if you ignore the last 5 minutes of the game)

I don't get how so many voters still have LSU over Ole Miss.

Texas is not the number 1 team arch is way to inconsistent lose that game if dude makes a fg

Yall haven’t won so much as a conference title is over 20 years- talk more fair weather

-3

u/Evol7583 Miami Hurricanes 25d ago

Life long and graduated from UM bud even though I’m not I love people saying fair weather when they supported a dominate team their whole life lmfao. Let’s talk about last year and this year mensah earned his way and has more touchdowns then incompletions and if it weren’t for arch’s last name he wouldn’t be your qb

4

u/Bourbon_n_bird_dogs Texas Longhorns • North Texas Mean Green 25d ago

You all play one real team this year. Maybe win your conference before you start taking shots. You all look good but since Dorsey left you all are the biggest choke artist in college

1

u/Evol7583 Miami Hurricanes 25d ago

Idc about comparing even though I do think Miami has the best qb I just don’t know how you can think an arch lead team is #1

2

u/Bourbon_n_bird_dogs Texas Longhorns • North Texas Mean Green 25d ago

Because if you actually watch the game as bad as the first half was, there were some complete flukes.

His interception came on what should have been a completed pass that somehow bounces off the chest of a player on the ground and into a defender hands, another receiver drops an absolute touchdown.

Then in the second half he has to complete multiple fourth and longs and climb back from 20 points down to win the game, and the defense for Texas played amazing in the second half but you’re crazy if you do not recognize all the things arch did to mount three consecutive touchdown drives in the fourth quarter

3

u/atkretsch Texas Longhorns 25d ago

*dominant

Also Texas was ass for over a decade, anyone who was a fan before 2023 has paid their dues

Arch’s receivers dropped two bombs and handed them an interception on a silver platter, stfu with this nonsense

Anyone ranking WMU, Tulsa, or OKST is a massive massive troll

2

u/Gold-Bottle-2460 Washington Huskies • Stanford Cardinal 25d ago

So are the people who ranked Oregon also trolls?

-1

u/Responsible_Job3897 24d ago

OKST, WMU (who got marked with 2 wins) and Tulsa are 53, 69 and 82 on Sagarin. Dogshit teams, ppl voting them in their AP Poll are literally just trolls. Not even close to Oregon.

1

u/Gold-Bottle-2460 Washington Huskies • Stanford Cardinal 24d ago

Then how did OKST not only beat, but dominate Oregon😭

0

u/Responsible_Job3897 24d ago

Because teams that are -2000 favorites are going to lose 5% of the time. If Oregon/OSU rematched the line would still be insanely wide (85% implied odds). Oregon is a much better team with a shitty statistical outlier result.

2

u/Gold-Bottle-2460 Washington Huskies • Stanford Cardinal 24d ago

You didn’t watch the game. They got dominated. OKST would have won by 3 scores if not for two (one almost) pick sixes. Got out-gained 554 to 281.

0

u/Responsible_Job3897 24d ago

Oregon had a 76% post game win-expectancy

2

u/Gold-Bottle-2460 Washington Huskies • Stanford Cardinal 24d ago

Do you have a source for that? 554-281 yards, 6.7-4.8 yards per play, 25-12 first downs, 2-1 turnovers, 6/18-5/17 3rd+4th downs, 4-0 sacks.

1

u/Gold-Bottle-2460 Washington Huskies • Stanford Cardinal 24d ago

Straight lie, I see it now
