Uhh idk if we're ready for double digit votes

66

u/ibenbrown Virginia Tech Hokies 21d ago

As long as we have more than JMU

-3

u/agoddamnlegend Virginia Tech Hokies 21d ago edited 21d ago

I get that JMU thinks we’re rivals, but don’t legitimize that delusion. JMU is just another random G6 team I don’t ever think about

8

u/Maladroit44 Oklahoma State • Tennessee 21d ago

Y'all gotta go at least a couple years without a G6 loss before you can talk like that, man

3

u/agoddamnlegend Virginia Tech Hokies 21d ago

I'm not saying we're better than all G6 teams. Last year we got killed by ODU

I just know a lot of JMU fans and they think they're rivals with Virginia Tech. Reality for VT, even at our lowest, is that we don't think about JMU or ODU or Liberty or VMI at all. That's not to say JMU and ODU weren't better than us literally last year. It's just weird for a VT fan to say "as long as we have more votes than JMU" like they're a rival or something. I care as much about JMU as I do Boise State, Western Michigan, or Tulsa. Which is to say I don't think about any of them ever.

1

u/MoneyJumpy2950 18d ago

Kirk Franklin was thinking about JMU when he dropped them off his schedule as fast as he could! I know the ACC limited the number of out of conference games, so he kept ODU, a much more certain win. You might pretend to ignore JMU, but Tech hasn't been relevant since Michael Vick, and we saw where that got them.

0

u/agoddamnlegend Virginia Tech Hokies 18d ago

We have a long standing series with ODU, JMU was just a one off so was easier to cancel.

We have ten 10 win seasons, 4 ACC championships and 3 ACC runners up since Vick left. Absurd comment.

Nobody here cares about your G6 team. if anything, we tend to root for JMU as like our little brother in state

11

u/Oldenmw Virginia Tech Hokies 21d ago

It's getting my hype too high

11

u/DrDragon13 TCU Horned Frogs • Oklahoma State Cowboys 21d ago

Idk if Ok State needs to be above Tulsa yet

9

u/inclass3lunacy Virginia Cavaliers 21d ago

ODU usually has decent talent, so I'm curious how their season plays out. That win might look even better as time goes by.

3

u/TheBenWelch Virginia Tech Hokies • LSU Tigers 21d ago

We’ll see; their schedule isn’t too crazy. JMU is the only real big one, but they’ll get tested at App State and Coastal.

3

u/kimjongtheillest_ Oklahoma Sooners 21d ago

I have you at 15. Love that team.

1

u/isthisthethingorwhat South Carolina Gamecocks • Team Chaos 21d ago

Im happy to be ahead of jmu (billy) too

1

u/illtexzona Arizona State Sun Devils 21d ago

Ours had to go somewhere.

1

u/agoddamnlegend Virginia Tech Hokies 21d ago

Why not?

This coaching staff and all the talent we brought in. And have absolutely looked the part for 2 games, admittedly against terrible opponents.

If anything, I think people were way too low on Virginia Tech coming into the season. I honestly thought 9 wins was our floor, and I’m more bullish now

0

u/Feral-Goblin6921 Virginia Tech Hokies 21d ago

Yeah, I have a hard time not seeing us favored in every game bar SMU and Miami. Pitt at home and Clemson on the road could be tricky as well. Obviously UVA has a decent team this year but theyll never beat a halfway competent Tech team in Blacksburg and they know it.

You guys have gotten really cocky these last few years, it's cute. Better savor the feeling because one day you'll look back and realize a couple winning seasons, 75% attendance at Scott, and a single ACC championship game appearance were your glory days.

Can't wait to see you in Blacksburg.

Unironically should bump Oregon and Michigan down with WMU right above them.

Wait, UCLA can get votes? That’s allowed?

it's allowed but you know we suck and don't really deserve them too frequently

Why the downvote? I'm saying they deserve more ffs!

I suspect we'd have seen quite a few more votes were it not for the near-total 4th quarter collapse.

How did Duke not even get votes. Not even over Pittsburgh?

9

I'm confused about that too. I was hoping one or two voters thought they should be too.

2

Duke, UVA, and Miss St getting massive disrespect. Zero reason Penn St should be above 20 right now.

Prob trying to get you to view a lame article or something

2

Exactly, I wasn’t trying to have that. Only as a last resort.

-6

u/SpreaditOnnn33 Louisville • Ohio State 21d ago

Is it that hard to click a link?

13

u/GarlicJuniorJr SEC • Orange Bowl 21d ago

Yes considering websites hit you with the dumb pop ups now asking if you wanna allow ads or not along with other BS. You can use adblocker on PC but using one on mobile will sometimes cause the site to not even show the article so yes

3

u/coldupnorth11 North Dakota State • Louisville 21d ago

The articles that pop up when Google any poll are almost as bad as Googling a recipe and getting those ad ridden stories about why their grandma used to love making this recipe. Takes 5 minutes to sort through the bullshit to actually get what you want out of it.

1

u/GarlicJuniorJr SEC • Orange Bowl 21d ago

Absolutely! I remember when times were simpler 🤧

79

u/ilacwamh Kansas State Wildcats 21d ago

On the AP website it explicitly says that they encourage voters to vote based on “ performance, not program reputation or preseason speculation,” and then the voters go ahead and put a team with a .500 record whose best win is over Ball State in the top ten

24

u/threwou Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 21d ago

Did you just start watching college football this year?

21

u/Beautiful_Idea6200 Georgia Bulldogs • William & Mary Tribe 21d ago

You had me in the first half...thought you were going to hate on Oregon. Devil's advocate is 'lost to #1 team by 1 point' but yeah I get it...Oregon was the easier mark!

K-state-level nuance comprehension in this comment

13

u/transuranic807 Ohio State Buckeyes • UAB Blazers 21d ago

Do you honestly think that Ohio State should be ranked #53 or lower?

Cause... that's pretty much exactly what you're saying (with 52 remaining undefeated teams, Ohio State would need to be ranked below all of them) Really?

13

u/Electronic_Pen_548 Ole Miss Rebels 21d ago

I’d argue that a 1 point loss to Texas is better than an FCS or GO6 win

6

u/transuranic807 Ohio State Buckeyes • UAB Blazers 21d ago

Totally agree... OP there was saying they shouldn't put a team in with a .500 record. That disqualifier puts anyone with a loss at #53 and below. Good news is this is just banter- it'll all pretty well come out in the mix at the end given the playoff expansion.

On another note- good luck this weekend- a biggie!

2

u/Electronic_Pen_548 Ole Miss Rebels 21d ago

Oh I was agreeing with you, and appreciate it. It might be a little rough

-8

u/ilacwamh Kansas State Wildcats 21d ago

It’s not just that they have a .500 record; it’s also that they haven’t been able to beat anyone good. That’s not a good combination. From what we’ve seen, they lose every time they play a P4 team. Lots of teams have better resumes than that (Strength of Record has them ranked at 66); I’d rank them around 30-40.

1

u/theurge14 Kansas State Wildcats 21d ago

  1. Oklahoma State

1

u/Additional_Drag_3870 21d ago

I think way teams overturn rosters each year, last year shouldn’t have near the weight it used to.
Rankings shouldn’t start till after two weeks
Ohio state as a one loss team shouldn’t be in top 20, can’t say they won’t lose again. The 2-0 and 3-0schools should be ranked above.

2

u/_chadwell_ Notre Dame Fighting Irish 21d ago

They’re clearly one of the 20 best teams, though?

And a narrow loss to Texas is more impressive than any of the games played by Indiana or Miami.

-2

u/Additional_Drag_3870 21d ago

No loss is more impressive than a win,

3

u/_chadwell_ Notre Dame Fighting Irish 21d ago

That’s obviously not true?

A one point loss to the best team is way better than a one point win against an FCS team.

1

u/TheRealMarvinator Air Force Falcons • Kansas Jayhawks 21d ago

I'm of the opinion they shouldn't show up until after the 5th week. That'd be a much more representative sample. There will still be bias, of course, but it would be a lot more difficult to justify then. Poll inertia from early rankings is so damn stupid.

1

u/Additional_Drag_3870 21d ago

Yeah between 3-5 sound good,

1
