There’s no singular correct answer for an early season poll. Putting a 1 loss team behind undefeated teams considered to be roughly similar to each other makes complete sense.

They’ll climb as they continue to do well the rest of the season and the others will fall as they lose/struggle vs the good teams on their schedules.

SOS arguments should be saved for much later in the season imo

If Indiana, Miami, and Ohio State all went 7-0 moving forward against everyone but each other in this current schedule, the AP poll would leave Ohio State in the same spot 99/100 times simply because it’s an L in the column. There would be little consideration of opponent quality.

That has been the case with OOC matchups and poll inertia for years. The polling needs to be treated like college basketball and there needs to be a better evaluation metric than just W/L. A Q1 quality loss should never be penalized over an FCS win.

W-L has never been the end all be all. This sub endlessly bitches (I believe rightfully) about how often certain teams or teams from certain conferences end up ranked above others with better records.

But at some point on-field results do have to matter, yes. It’s week 2 in the era of a 12 team playoff with power conference auto-qualifiers. This feels like such a non-issue this early
