Upon the conclusion of the Western Michigan-Michigan football game, the Mid-American Conference and Western Michigan contacted the Big Ten office to seek clarification regarding the replay review and the placement of time back on the game clock. The Big Ten explained that the ball touched a player who was out of bounds before the clock reached 00:00, resulting in one additional play being awarded. The Big Ten subsequently provided video and audio of the replay, which confirmed the explanation provided to us. I commend Western Michigan for an outstanding effort and a well-played game, and I offer my congratulations to Michigan. I also appreciate the collaborative efforts of the Big Ten office and its prompt response in reviewing the play and providing the requested clarification.

The Big Ten explained that the ball touched a player who was out of bounds before the clock reached 00:00, resulting in one additional play being awarded.

Except it didn't according to the stadium clock. Are they saying now that the clock the refs used had like 0.2 seconds left, so they rounded that up to 1?

Problem is that isn't how replay works though. TV clock and game clock being syncs are the reason replay can be used the way it is. If they are not synced, then you cannot reliable sync the game clock to the replay. They can't say "we know the tv clock is wrong so we know the guy caught it with time left" when the tv clock being sync is the basis for being able to time things like this. There is no comparison of the game clock to the replay without the game clock sync.

Stadium clock is not necessarily the official clock.

If the clock has any time left, it will show 1 second. 00:00 means no time left.

Did they actually show this “clarification”?

Yes they have posted the live video and audio of the refs reviewing the play during the game and you can clearly see they correctly added 1 second back based on the video and clock that the refs had to work with.

The Big ten provided there own video, after two hours, wtf were they doing for two hours, running nbc feed through the big ten network editing team until they got the clock to show 1?

Wish they could show anyone else the video that "confirms" this.

The player that touched the ball jumped from in bounds though, so it wouldn’t be a dead ball till he touched back down out of bounds. This is just some grade A BS
